Chapter 82: The First Family (1)

He opened the gate and had us follow him inside, it was definitely a beautiful place here as well. Flowers of all sorts seem to be flourishing quite well in the garden out front.

"How rude of me, my name is Alarion Variseth. I am the oldest son of the house and the one who handles most of the main issues as of right now." Alarion introduces himself as he leads the way.

"Nice to meet you Alarion. I’m Rokuro, The blue hair girl is Ghost and the other is Lilly." I respond while observing him.

I’m unsure of what to make of this guy yet since we’ve only just met him but he seems like the complete opposite of the rumors. Anyone can put on a fake face though so I won’t completely rule it out just yet.

"Wonderful names. I can assume that you’ve come here because of the war rumors." He says while opening up the doors.

I was caught off guard by the giant statue in the middle of the room, it seems to resemble a man very similar to Alarion... Except he had a beard and seems to be much older.

The room had two sets of stairs going up to the top floor with a nice red rug following each step. "Y-Yeah. We want to see if that’s really true or not." I hesitate to speak at first, still taken back by everything in front of me.

"It only makes sense that you’d be here because of it. I’d be happy to explain everything to you, just follow me into the next room." Alarion replies while gesturing to follow him.

This place definitely suits a family like his but it makes me wonder if all the families have big manors like this. It is quite a big home with a lot of fancy decor to it.

Of course families like this will have all sorts of decorations scattered about, they need to display their wealth somehow.

I just don’t know if this is normal... You know, the whole bringing us inside like this out of nowhere. I wouldn’t trust bringing some random people inside my home if it was reversed.

Unless he is one of the stronger hunters we heard about. That would make the most sense if he was one of the S rank hunters or even SS.

He’s definitely quite strong. I can’t get a full read on him just yet but he is definitely going to be a challenge if we have to fight.

I’ll make sure to keep that in mind as we chat with him about the current war rumor situation. I’d like to do everything in my power to stop this war from happening if I can.

He brought us into a nice room with a big table that looks like it’s meant to seat 20+ people. "Take a seat wherever. I’d love to chat with you all." Alarion says with a kind and respectful tone.

We all took a seat as he sat directly across from where we decided to sit. I could tell that Ghost and Lilly were quite nervous about this whole thing based off of their expressions.

Meanwhile, Alarion seems to be quite excited about talking. It was evident with the look in his eyes as well as the smile across his face.

Maybe he didn’t get to talk too much with people.

"The rumors of Elyndra wanting to wage war, is that true?" I ask with a bit of nervousness in my voice.

He lifts up a cup and quickly takes a sip from it. "Tea is truly delightful, I must say. Elyndra hasn’t said anything about a war." He answers with the same tone he’s had the whole time.

The polite and kind voice he’s kept this whole time hasn’t gone away in the slightest, even after answering that question.

"Then why do the cities below fear it and claim it’s coming?" I question while keeping more of a calm tone.

He sits the cup back on the table. "Scaring people into donating to a cause can help quite a bit. Some cities can thrive on the fear of their people if it puts more silvite in their pockets." Alarion responds while looking directly at me.

"So there’s no worries of war here?" Ghost speaks up with a bit of curiosity.

His eyes linger over towards Ghost. "Of course not. It’d be such a one sided battle with so much unnecessary bloodshed." He responds with a bit of disgust in his voice.

Disgusted by her question or by the thought of the battle itself? I guess both can be seen as disgusting in some way or another but this is a lot different than I expected.

I’ve just been proven wrong with each person I talk to lately that I don’t know what to make of anything now.

Why would Seraphine say that we are going to war if there was never a worry about war to begin with...?

"If a war happens, we will absolutely decimate the cities below without any hesitation. I’ll happily put an end to anyone who interferes." Alarion speaks with more of a serious tone.

There’s the shift in tone that I was expecting the moment we met this guy but it just took a bit of patience... It is actually kind of alarming to here such a sudden shift in his tonality out of nowhere.

"What about the innocent people who just live there?" I ask while taking him a bit more seriously myself.

"There will always be casualties in war I’m afraid. But it’ll be for the greater good if that does occur at least." Alarion answers with a sinister smile on his face.

This guy might secretly be a monster after all Rokuro.

I’m glad we were thinking the same thing when it comes to this piece of filth. Originally I thought he might not be that bad of a guy but now I’m completely unsure.

He talks like someone who should be an enemy but then acts like a completely different person after...
