Chapter 5 He Actually Saved Me at the Cost of His Own Life

Li Mohan was stunned by Ye Huohuo’s sudden kiss, standing there and letting her soft lips brush against his twice.

Everyone around, including Li Mohen, was dumbfounded. Was this a case of the iron tree blooming?

Li Mohan, the most genuine bachelor in Hai City, was the dream lover of countless women. The women who pursued him openly or secretly could stretch from Hai City all the way to the capital, Longcheng.

And that didn’t even include those who secretly admired him.

But no one dared to be so bold and kiss him openly in front of so many people!

What was even more surprising was that Li Mohan himself had allowed her to kiss him without pushing her away.

If this news got out, it would shock the entire social circle of young ladies and noblewomen in Hai City! It would make countless women weep themselves blind.

The onlookers’ jaws nearly dropped, yet the two involved parties were the most composed.

After kissing, Ye Huohuo even stuck out her pink tongue to lick her lips. Then, she closed her eyes and muttered something unintelligible. Soon, a wind began to stir in the room where there had been no breeze moments before.

“Everyone, be careful not to touch the surrounding walls,” Ye Huohuo reminded them while chanting. “The walls are formed from the condensed Yin energy of vengeful spirits. Touching them will, at best, lead to Yin energy corroding your meridians and causing paralysis in half your body. At worst, the Yin energy will flow into your heart meridian, resulting in immediate death. So, be extremely careful!”

The experts who had looked down on Ye Huohuo earlier were now somewhat disoriented by the strange occurrences around them and became obedient to her words.

They all kept their distance from the walls, standing in the center of the room.

The wind grew stronger and stronger, until it was so powerful that people had to hold onto each other to avoid being blown over.

Using the light emitted from the talisman paper in her hand, Ye Huohuo opened her makeup case and flipped to the bottom layer. The needle of the compass there was spinning so fast it looked like a top.

She narrowed her eyes, opened her lipstick, and wrapped the glowing talisman paper around the lipstick. Instantly, a red beam of light shot out from the tip of the lipstick.

Before everyone could get a clear look, the surrounding darkness seemed to materialize, seeping towards the red beam of light like ink.

The red beam’s light grew dimmer and shorter, almost being extinguished.

Ye Huohuo bit her middle finger and smeared a drop of blood onto both the compass and the talisman. The compass needle gradually slowed down, and simultaneously, the red beam of light intensified, transforming into a thick and long laser beam that pierced through the surrounding darkness.

The sudden surge of light made the surrounding people unable to open their eyes, feeling a blinding sensation.

Their vision became a blur of white, and it took a while for them to recover. Even then, everything they saw had a double image.

Ye Huohuo ignored them, her eyes fixed on the compass. Finally, the swinging needle stopped, pointing in one direction.

Without hesitation, she directed the beam of light in her hand and slashed it towards that direction.

The crowd saw the red beam of light instantly cut through the darkness, followed by a piercing scream that vibrated their eardrums, as if trying to penetrate them and burrow directly into their brains.

The shock made everyone close their eyes, open their mouths, and cover their ears.

These were all medical students, and they knew how to react in such a situation. Covering their ears reduced the impact of the sound waves on their eardrums, and opening their mouths balanced the pressure difference, preventing their eardrums from rupturing due to pressure.

After an unknown period, when these people opened their eyes again, they found themselves back in the hospital room, everything as usual. There was no dark room, no screams, as if nothing had happened.

Ye Huohuo had injured the ghost with that strike, but she was also slightly breathless from its Yin energy. At her current level, dealing with a vengeful spirit alone was still too strenuous.

She had been worried that holding the compass in one hand and the light sword in the other would prevent her from covering her ears, and that the heart meridian, already injured by Yin energy, would be further harmed by the screaming.

But to her surprise, when the piercing scream sounded, someone pulled her into his embrace and firmly covered her ears with two large hands.

After a long while, Ye Huohuo struggled out of the man’s embrace.

It turned out to be Li Mohan. She watched as Li Mohan rubbed his ears with both hands, knowing that his eardrums must have been injured to protect her.

“Brother, how are you? Why didn’t you cover your ears?” Li Mohen quickly noticed something was wrong with Li Mohan.

Li Mohan gently shook his head, his gaze fixed on Li Mohen’s mouth, as if analyzing what he was saying through lip-reading.

“It’s nothing, I’ll get it checked later,” he said nonchalantly, but his pale face betrayed his current condition.

Ye Huohuo, with her sharp eyes, had already seen blood seeping from his ear.

Her brow twitched.

For the first time!

Besides her master and senior siblings, this was the first time someone had been injured protecting her.

And it was someone she had only met once.

She couldn’t help but examine Li Mohan more closely. He still appeared cold and unapproachable on the outside, but his genuine reaction in that moment revealed him to be someone who was outwardly cold but inwardly warm.

Good luck doesn’t come out of nowhere. Some are accumulated through doing good deeds for lifetimes, while others come from performing great acts of kindness in this life. The reason this person was so fortunate was evident from this small gesture.

Two words: kind-hearted.

“You’re helping me save my grandfather, so it’s only right,” Ye Huohuo said apologetically. “I understand some medical principles. After we’re done here, I’ll take a look at you! That was the demonic sound of a vengeful spirit. If not handled properly, it can damage the brain.” She added, “Thank you for covering my ears just now.”

Li Mohen then wore an expression of sudden realization.

He couldn’t help but admire his reserved elder brother, realizing that it wasn’t that he didn’t know how to be good to women, but rather that he hadn’t met the one who could move his heart.

However, looking at her from every angle, this strangely dressed woman in front of him shouldn’t be Li Mohan’s type. Had his tastes changed?

“You helped me save my grandfather, so it’s only right,” Li Mohan replied, his expression calm, even with his hearing temporarily gone.

“Oh my! Little girl, no, immortal fairy! We were blind and didn’t recognize your worth. We truly didn’t expect this; it’s simply inexplicable!” The older experts beside them began to chatter incessantly.

Doctors, being the profession closest to death, are accustomed to birth, aging, sickness, and death, so most of them do not believe in ghosts or spirits.

The experience they had just gone through completely overturned their perceptions.

Ye Huohuo shook her head, “It’s nothing, as long as everyone is safe.”

As she spoke, she looked at Old Master Li on the hospital bed. His complexion had improved significantly. Although still pale, the greenish aura of death was gone.

Just then, the room door was pushed open from the outside.

Six people walked in.

Ye Huohuo recognized the first two: Li Moyan and Li Mochen. Four people followed behind them.

One was a very prosperous-looking middle-aged man, appearing to be in his fifties. Judging by his physique, he was well-fed, his waist could fit two people, his belly was bloated, and his face was greasy.

Behind him followed a thin old man in his sixties or seventies, dressed as a Taoist priest. A goat beard stubbornly twitched on his chin, and he tilted his chin upwards as he walked, looking at people with a condescending air.

Behind him was a young Taoist priest, appearing to be only in his twenties. Although he wore a Taoist robe, his demeanor was like that of a young man from society.

He walked with a slight bounce, looking so swaggering that he seemed to have little flesh on his body.

The last to enter was a woman in her twenties. Judging by her attire, she was a classic rich and beautiful woman. Her designer clothes and jewelry glittered under the lights.

One had to squint to look at her, otherwise, the brightness would hurt one’s eyes.

However, since entering the room, this woman had been staring at Li Mohan. Seeing that he wasn’t looking at her, her mood immediately soured.

Ye Huohuo couldn’t help but sigh inwardly. Alas, another romantic entanglement! Li Mohan’s good fortune also brought with it an abundance of romantic prospects. She would likely be busy in the future!

“Brother, Second Brother, we found it!” Li Mochen blurted out as soon as he entered.

“Found what?” Li Mohen asked.

“It turns out it was this!”

After Li Mohen asked, and before Li Mochen could reply, Ye Huohuo squinted and looked at something in the old Taoist priest’s hand before speaking.
