Chapter 118 What a Pair of Eyes

The car stopped with a squeak as they were speaking.

“We’re here!” the taxi driver said from the front.

“Thank you!” Ye Huohuo collected her thoughts, paid the fare, and got out of the car.

Nie Ming flew out of the car by himself, circled twice above Ye Huohuo’s head, and then flew into the sky.

Ye Huohuo knew he didn’t want to go into the police station with her, so he flew to a nearby spot to wait for her.

“Mo Chen, you’ll have to help me talk to them nicely later. You must help me find the orphanage’s records. I had someone investigate before, and that orphanage has been closed for several years. So, the records might not be easy to find!” Ye Huohuo finally revealed the real reason for seeking out Li Mo Chen.

Upon hearing this, Li Mo Chen slapped his forehead. “The orphanage is closed? No wonder you came to me. It will indeed be quite difficult to find these. The police officers are all very busy, this is really going to be troublesome!”

“It’s not about the monk, but about the Buddha. Just consider that I just helped you get rid of those girls. Shouldn’t you help me get this done too!” Ye Huohuo strategically called in the favor.

She had helped Li Mo Chen just now precisely for this moment. After all, she had little interaction with Li Mo Chen, and with only the title of elder sister-in-law, if Li Mo Chen didn’t show any respect, things would be difficult later.

She always acted with caution and planned ahead.

Li Mo Chen’s expression was initially one of surprise, then he suddenly laughed, looking at Ye Huohuo, “We’re family, you truly are. My elder brother is a shrewd businessman; he wouldn’t stir without benefit. I was wondering why you were so kind just now, offering to help me, turns out you were waiting for me here!”

“I risked offending all the female students at Haicheng University to help you. I estimate that next time I go to your university, I’ll receive many disdainful looks and muttered curses. I’m a girl too, you know. I threw my dignity away for you, and you…”

“Alright, sister-in-law, don’t worry, I’ll definitely do my best to help you!” Li Mo Chen quickly cut off Ye Huohuo, afraid she would say more, fearing he couldn’t repay her even if he worked for her for the rest of his life.

Ye Huohuo then smiled with satisfaction, and the two walked into the police station’s entrance together.

“Well, isn’t this Li Mo Chen? What wind blows you here today?”

As soon as they entered, a young police officer hurried over to greet Li Mo Chen. His eyes swept past Li Mo Chen and immediately lit up. “And who is this young lady?”

“Zhao Liang, this is my…” Li Mo Chen, being straightforward, was about to tell the truth when Ye Huohuo grabbed him. “My friend! I happen to have something to look for Cai Bei today. Is he here?”

“You’re looking for Forensic Doctor Cai? He just went out to an incident scene with Captain Liu,” Zhao Liang replied. However, while talking to Li Mo Chen, his eyes kept glancing at Ye Huohuo.

“Ah, then is Cai Xiaoxi here?” Li Mo Chen asked again.

“Her? She’s in charge of all the records in the police station. Even if someone else isn’t here, she has to be. You’re looking for her? Has the sun risen from the west?” Zhao Liang chuckled. “However…”

“However what? Can you stop hesitating when you speak?” Li Mo Chen grew impatient.

Zhao Liang glanced at Ye Huohuo again, then pulled Li Mo Chen aside and said mysteriously, “Are you sure you brought your girlfriend with you?”

Li Mo Chen almost choked on his words at his question. “What girlfriend, we’re just… ordinary friends!”

“Fine, fine, fine, ordinary friends. Don’t say I didn’t warn you, you’d better not bring your fe…female ordinary friend with you.” Zhao Liang smiled like a fox.

Li Mo Chen pushed him. “Alright, you. Are you that idle? Do I need to tell Captain Liu to give you more work?”

Zhao Liang then ran off with a grin.

“Cai Xiaoxi? In charge of records?” Ye Huohuo overheard some of it.

“Mm, let’s go. If we want to get the records, we need to ask her for help.” Li Mo Chen scratched his head. “Alas, I was originally planning to find her brother, have him talk to her. It’s just bad timing, he’s also out at an incident scene, so we’ll have to go find her directly.”

“You don’t want to find her?” Ye Huohuo looked at Li Mo Chen’s slightly darkened face with interest.

“You haven’t dealt with Cai Xiaoxi before. That person is very rigid. Even when people in the police force usually ask her for records, they need complete paperwork. If we go like this now… there’s a ninety percent chance it won’t work out.”

“Is that so? Why do I feel that while others might not be able to get it done, you might?” Ye Huohuo said with a half-smile.

Li Mo Chen pursed his lips. “Sister-in-law, this joke isn’t funny, especially don’t make it in front of Cai Xiaoxi. That person… you’ll know when you meet her later!”

As they spoke, they looked up and found themselves at the entrance to the records room.

The door was not closed, and two junior officers were returning case files inside.

“How many times have I told you all? The files here are arranged in order. When you return them, please arrange them by date. Every time you return them, I have to reorder them.

Don’t you know how much extra work this creates for me? If this happens again, don’t expect to get a single piece of paper from me!” a sharp female voice rang out from inside.

The voice was loud and piercing, directly assaulting their eardrums. Even Ye Huohuo, standing outside the door, felt her heart skip a beat. Li Mo Chen beside her shuddered all over.

The two junior officers inside were so frightened they dared not make a sound. They fumbled and finally arranged the files in order, then scurried out sheepishly.

“Scared me to death! My heart almost jumped out!”

“Me too. No wonder they call her Tiger Cai. She’s really terrifying when she roars!”

“Exactly. I heard she’s almost thirty and still doesn’t have a boyfriend. Who would dare marry such a capable woman?! She’s a real tigress!”

The two junior officers spoke in hushed tones as they walked away.

Li Mo Chen took a deep breath, looking like he was facing a formidable enemy. He looked at Ye Huohuo and lowered his voice significantly, as if afraid of being heard by the person inside, “How about we come back later, when her brother gets back? I’ll find her brother…”

Ye Huohuo chuckled lightly. “Are you that afraid of her? If you’re really scared… then forget it!”

Li Mo Chen, after all, was a man. He held his head high. “Who’s afraid? Let’s go!”

With that, he braced himself and led Ye Huohuo inside.

Ye Huohuo had only heard voices from inside at the doorway and hadn’t seen anyone. Now, she saw the Cai Tiger they spoke of, the owner of that voice – Cai Xiaoxi.

To her surprise, she had expected a fierce-looking woman, at least a serious career woman like a corporate elite.

But when she saw Cai Xiaoxi, she was surprised to find a woman with long, straight hair and a very sweet appearance.

The two junior police officers had said she was almost thirty, but she looked no older than twenty-five or twenty-six. She wore a decent light makeup, and her thin lips, slightly pursed, curved upwards even when she wasn’t smiling, a typical smile line that added a touch of approachability.

When Ye Huohuo first saw her, she was looking down, organizing files. Ye Huohuo couldn’t imagine that the voice she heard at the door belonged to this woman.

Although Ye Huohuo wasn’t as skilled in physiognomy as her master and several senior brothers, she understood some of it. She felt that someone with such a face shouldn’t be so stern.

But when Li Mo Chen greeted Cai Xiaoxi and Cai Xiaoxi looked up at them, Ye Huohuo’s heart tightened.

Those eyes!

Cai Xiaoxi had a gentle and approachable face, but she possessed a pair of sharp, eagle-like eyes.

Eagle eyes were more common in men, and men with this eye shape were usually decisive, efficient, and capable of grasping the overall situation. Li Mo Han’s eyes had a slight resemblance to eagle eyes, which often gave him a stern aura.

But this woman had a pair of eagle eyes, which added a fierce aura to her otherwise soft and beautiful face. Women with such eyes were usually hot-tempered, stubborn, and overly meticulous, making them difficult to get along with.

Li Mo Chen’s earlier assessment of Cai Xiaoxi was indeed accurate. This person was very principled, and it seemed that getting records from her would not be easy.

However, in the next second, Ye Huohuo saw a glimmer of hope…
