A Childhood Memory!
Back then, she was only five years old.
That day.
Mu Yinyin, holding a doll by herself, walked in the community. Finding a shady and comfortable spot, she squatted on the ground, fiddling with the doll and talking to herself.
As she was playing, she suddenly saw a mother and son walking towards her from not far away.
The child ran ahead happily, and the woman followed quickly, saying somewhat helplessly, "Son, run slower, be careful you don't fall."
The woman's voice was incredibly gentle.
Mu Yinyin unconsciously stopped what she was doing, and remained squatting in place, staring intently at them.
The boy clearly wanted to come and play with her. Soon, he ran to her side and extended a friendly hand, "Let's play together."
Mu Yinyin's lips moved. Small as she was, she didn't particularly like interacting with outsiders; she was basically always by herself.
But…
Seeing the gentle woman behind the boy, she couldn't help but nod, responding with a soft, sweet voice, "Okay."
The woman took a moment to catch up and also walked over.
Mu Yinyin unconsciously looked up at the woman, who also had a very gentle appearance. She… was this boy's mother.
She felt a little envious.
"Your doll is so pretty, can I have a look?"
Mu Yinyin frowned slightly, but after thinking about it, she handed the doll over.
Her gaze remained fixed on the woman. Children often couldn't hide their thoughts, and the woman clearly saw her anticipation and longing.
She walked closer to Mu Yinyin with some curiosity. Seeing her son already playing with the little girl's doll, she looked back at Mu Yinyin and said with a gentle smile as she squatted beside her, "Little girl, why are you looking at me like that? Is there something on my face?"
Mu Yinyin's eyes flickered, and she immediately lowered her head in embarrassment, shaking her head.
Seeing her as well-behaved and cute, the woman couldn't help but laugh and ask, "Then, why have you been looking at me?"
Mu Yinyin pursed her lips unconsciously and didn't speak.
"Mom, look, look! This doll is so pretty! Things girls play with are indeed different. I want one too."
The woman immediately said helplessly, "What doll are you playing with?"
"No, I just want one," she said, and the boy had already gotten up and run to the woman's side, hugging her leg and shaking his body coquettishly.
The woman immediately said helplessly, "Okay, okay, I'll buy you one."
Mu Yinyin watched them, the envy in her eyes almost uncontrollable.
Because the little girl was a bit peculiar, the woman focused a lot of attention on her. At this moment, she had clearly seen her emotions. She patted her son's head, walked to Mu Yinyin's side, and smiled gently, "My son is very well-behaved. If you'd like, you can come to our house and play with him in the future."
Mu Yinyin's eyes moved, and she just nodded politely, saying nothing.
After a while, the boy returned the doll to Mu Yinyin.
"Here you go, thank you, little sister."
"You're welcome."
Mu Yinyin said dully, "I'll give the doll to you."
Then she stood up and looked at them again, "It's getting late, I'm going back now."
A mother is, after all, someone else's mother, not hers.
After exchanging a few words with the mother and son, Mu Yinyin went home.
As she was changing her shoes, she happened to see her father in the living room.
She walked sadly to her father's side. Mu Fu looked up and saw his daughter's pale little face and her unhappy mood. He immediately took her shoulders with both hands and looked at her, "What's wrong, my good daughter? Did you get bullied?"
Noticing she was empty-handed, he asked again, confused, "What's wrong? Was your doll snatched?"
Mu Fu remembered that Mu Yinyin had brought her doll with her when she went out.
Mu Yinyin pursed her lips, "I gave the doll away."
Mu Fu looked puzzled, "Then what's wrong with you?"
Seeing her eyes were red and she looked like she was about to cry.
Mu Yinyin pouted and couldn't help but look at her father, asking, "Dad, where is my mother? Why do others have mothers, but I don't?"
Mu Fu's expression changed slightly. He immediately said helplessly, "Your mother…"
Mu Yinyin stared intently at her father, waiting for him to continue.
But Mu Fu suddenly fell silent.
Mu Yinyin couldn't hold back her tears, which dripped down, "I just saw others have mothers, and I'm so envious. Dad, where is my mother…?"
The memory abruptly ended.
"Yinyin! You're going to hit the car in front of you! Brake quickly!" Wan Yu's loud voice jolted her awake. Mu Yinyin immediately slammed on the brakes.
Seeing that they were safe, Wan Yu looked at her in surprise, "What's wrong with you?"
Mu Yinyin's expression changed slightly, "Sorry, I was just spacing out."
Wan Yu frowned. Mu Yinyin never made such mistakes while driving, so she must have been thinking about something important.
"Tell me, what were you thinking just now?"
Mu Yinyin smiled softly, "I was just thinking about some childhood memories. I'm fine."
Then she continued to drive.
However…
She didn't understand when she was young, but now that she's older, she understands it all.
When she kept asking about her mother back then, her father was actually very sad.
But he couldn't tell her that her mother had passed away.
He also couldn't tell her other things, fearing she would be sad, fearing she couldn't bear it.
It's just that…
From childhood to adulthood, she never knew her mother's true identity, nor did she know if her father genuinely didn't know, or if… he never intended to tell her?
The car continued to drive.
Mu Yinyin took a deep breath, trying to clear her thoughts.
She would investigate this matter later.
Wan Yu looked at her suspiciously, her gaze never leaving her. When she had spoken to Mu Yinyin earlier, she hadn't received a response. Looking at her, she clearly seemed to have something on her mind.
And she almost hit a car just now. Who would believe she was really fine?
She frowned slightly, "Hurry up and tell me, what were you really thinking about just now?"
Mu Yinyin smiled, "Ah, I was thinking about my mother's affairs. I've never confirmed my mother's identity, and my father hasn't told me either. Perhaps I'm not a dutiful child. I should investigate my mother's affairs, at least to know her identity and see if I have any other relatives."
Wan Yu frowned slightly, "That, that might be hard to find."
She knew almost everything about Mu Yinyin's family. Mu Yinyin had told her, and since Mu Yinyin's mother had passed away, it made finding relatives even more difficult.
