Qin Si Ye no longer hid anything. He told Yin Xi about her return with a mask to seek revenge, and how he had discovered the truth.
"So that's how it was. I never expected this girl Yin Xi, despite her young age, to be so cunning, to have fooled all of us."
After hearing his words, Qin Xiu Yi could not help but sigh. He then asked,
"What about the three children? How is that possible? Are they really hers?"
Qin Si Ye lowered his head, unable to conceal his pain. "Yes. That might have been an accident."
She didn't know what else she had been through, but the thought of her not even knowing who that man was sent a dull ache through his heart.
"Si Ye, you don't mind, do you?" Qin Xiu Yi asked cautiously over the phone.
He knew that Yin Xi's place in his heart surpassed everyone else's, but those three children were, after all, another man's bloodline.
"No. I don't mind. I pity her," Qin Si Ye's voice trembled slightly, his tone incredibly firm.
From the moment he knew she was Yin Xi, he had secretly resolved that his life would be spent only with her. He would never let her go and would accept everything about her.
He only regretted meeting her too late. Otherwise, perhaps that incident would not have happened to her.
"Good. Si Ye, Uncle supports you." Qin Xiu Yi's lips curved into a slight smile.
Hearing him say that, Qin Si Ye was very happy. He also told him that Shen Xi did not yet know he had discovered the truth, and that among the Qin family, he had only told him. He cautioned him to be careful with his words in the future and never let slip.
Qin Xiu Yi agreed to everything and hung up the phone. However, he stood by the window for a very long time.
The next morning, as soon as Mei Yun got out of bed and finished her wash, she saw Qin Xiu Yi walk in carrying breakfast and looked at him in surprise.
"Why are you here again?"
"I'm here to bring you breakfast," Qin Xiu Yi said with a face full of smiles.
Mei Yun sat back on the bed, glanced at the breakfast he had bought, and turned her face away. "I'm not eating."
The man, however, walked over with a chuckle, pulled the table to the bedside, and placed the breakfast on it. "Don't be angry anymore. People need food. You're still recovering, so you have to eat.
Look what I bought for you, the most famous breakfast in City K, Char Siu Bao. Try it."
Mei Yun suddenly interrupted him. "What did you think about what I said last night?"
"What do you mean?" Qin Xiu Yi pretended to be deaf and dumb, handing her the chopsticks. "It's time to eat. Eat well and don't overthink things."
"Qin Xiu Yi, you say you like me, but you don't listen to a word I say. Go away, go away. None of you men are good."
Mei Yun's anger flared up upon hearing his dismissive words.
"Quickly, if you don't leave, I'll throw out all the breakfast you bought."
"Alright, alright. Calm down. I'm leaving now." Seeing her starting to get angry again, Qin Xiu Yi had to take two steps back and reluctantly turn to leave the room.
At this moment, a nurse pushed the door open. "Mei Yun, come, let me take your temperature."
"Okay," Mei Yun took the thermometer she handed her and placed it under her arm.
The nurse glanced at the breakfast on the table in front of her and said with envy, "Was that man just now your husband? He's so good to you."
Mei Yun's eyes darkened as she glanced at her. "What husband? No."
"Then he must be your boyfriend?" the nurse smiled dismissively. "These Tang Ji Char Siu Bao are local specialties. You can't get them without queuing for an hour.
Did you two have a fight? He booked a separate room next door last night and came to see you several times.
And this morning, he went to queue up again to buy you breakfast. Not only is he handsome, but he's also so good to you. You must hold onto him.
I'm telling you this because you're related to our Doctor Shen. Please don't find me too talkative."
Upon hearing this, Mei Yun's heart skipped a beat. No wonder she had a vague feeling last night that someone had walked to her bedside and covered her with a blanket. She had thought it was the nurse on their night rounds.
So, that man hadn't left.
"Thank you," Mei Yun's angry expression slowly faded.
After the nurse finished taking her temperature and left, she stared straight at the breakfast in front of her and spaced out for a while. How delicious could City K's specialty snacks be? She reached out and opened the box. A rich aroma wafted towards her, instantly stimulating her taste buds.
She licked her lips, picked one up, and put it in her mouth. It was indeed as good as its reputation, soft, moist, and fragrant.
She ate one after another.
She thought to herself: It's a waste not to eat it. She couldn't just throw away such a good thing.
As she was eating the last one, the phone by the table suddenly rang.
