“Si Ye, you should do it. You're more proficient in this area,” Gu Lin said, stepping aside to give him space.
Si Ye? Yan Yan’s heart skipped a beat upon hearing the name. It sounded vaguely familiar.
She looked closely and was startled. Wasn't this the man in the photos her Brother Chen Chen had shown her?
Could this be Qin Si Ye? The man they had predicted as their father?
At the same time, Qin Si Ye was also gazing at her with a gentle expression.
After a moment, he crouched down and asked softly, “Where is it?”
“Here,” Yan Yan replied hurriedly, snapping back to attention.
Her big, watery eyes kept glancing at him.
Qin Si Ye reached out and, in less than half a minute, rescued the little bird and handed it to Yan Yan.
“Thank you, Uncle! You’re amazing!” Yan Yan beamed at him, her voice soft and sweet as she asked, “Uncle, did you also like birds when you were little?”
“You guessed right. This Uncle Qin, he loved birds as a companion when he was young. He’d spend all day in the woods and reeds, and there wasn’t a bird he didn’t recognize,” Gu Lin chimed in, but he was met with Qin Si Ye’s displeased gaze.
He felt a jolt of shock. Had he said too much again? It was just the truth.
“Really? Then I’ll thank you again on behalf of this little bird!” Yan Yan nodded her thanks to him once more, holding the bird in her hands and lifting it up. “Little bird, fly away quickly. Fly to your mommy and daddy, and live happily ever after as a family.”
“Yan Yan, where are you?” Shen Xi’s voice called from a distance.
Yan Yan stood still and called back, tilting her head, “Mommy, I’m here.”
It seemed she had no intention of leaving.
Soon, Shen Xi found her.
Upon seeing Qin Si Ye, Shen Xi broke out in a cold sweat.
How was it that every time she took the children out, she encountered him?
Qin Si Ye was also surprised, not expecting this little girl to be Shen Xi’s child.
“Mommy, I found a little bird whose leg was tangled in a rope, and this Uncle Qin helped save it,” Yan Yan said, running towards Shen Xi and pointing at Qin Si Ye.
“Thank you, Mr. Qin!” Shen Xi smiled faintly.
She then gave a slight nod to Gu Lin behind him.
Gu Lin’s heart skipped a beat. He seemed to have seen this woman somewhere before.
“You’re welcome,” Qin Si Ye said, his thin lips parting slightly. “The two children are not much different in age?”
Shen Xi paused slightly, then quickly responded, “Yes. They are twins.”
Since he had already seen them, there was no point in hiding it.
After all, the children had no connection to him, so it wouldn’t matter if she mentioned it.
“Mommy, do you know each other?” Yan Yan asked, feigning surprise as she looked between them.
“Oh? This uncle is the Mr. Qin I told you about. I’m currently treating his elderly grandmother,” Shen Xi replied, looking down.
Earlier that afternoon, as soon as she got home, Chen Chen had called her into his room, asking what she had been busy with these past few days going out.
He had also said that he and Shuo Shuo could tell she was very familiar with Qin Si Ye, and whether they met often.
Shen Xi had to admit that she was treating Qin Si Ye’s grandmother. But she still warned him not to overthink things, and that she had no relationship with him whatsoever.
It was merely a doctor-patient family relationship.
And Chen Chen must have immediately told Shuo Shuo and Yan Yan everything.
“That’s such a coincidence. I didn’t expect to run into someone we know here,” Yan Yan said meaningfully, fluttering her beautiful long eyelashes.
Her gaze, however, continued to rove between their faces.
Hearing this, Gu Lin became even more astonished. He suddenly remembered who she was.
She was the renowned doctor they had invited from abroad – Shen Xi. He had seen her photo when he was with Director Bai, which explained why he had felt she looked familiar upon first sight.
He hadn't expected her to be hired by Qin Si Ye to treat the Qin family's elderly matriarch.
