Chapter 208 The Tragedy Is Right Beside Us

Early Wednesday morning, as soon as Qin Si Yue arrived at her office, she received a call from Han Hao Ming.

"Hello? Officer Han, good morning." Qin Si Yue's face was adorned with a smile, unable to hide her inner excitement.

This was the first time he had called her proactively since they had known each other.

"Good morning, Director Qin. Are you free now? Could you come to the inpatient department? Li Qiang wants to see you." Han Hao Ming's gentle and charming voice came through the phone.

"Okay. I'll be right there." After giving instructions to her subordinate doctors, Qin Si Yue strode towards the inpatient department.

As soon as she reached the corridor, she saw Han Hao Ming waiting there in casual attire.

Upon seeing her, Han Hao Ming's eyes lit up. He quickly walked forward and said, "Director Qin, I apologize for troubling you to make this trip. Li Qiang said he's willing to tell the truth about that day, but he only wants to speak to you."

"Okay. I will turn on my phone's recording function and record our conversation," Qin Si Yue said, taking out her phone and pushing the door open to enter.

Inside the room at this moment were only Li Qiang and the police officer Zou He.

Qin Si Yue exchanged a look with Zou He. He nodded slightly, turned, and left the room.

"Li Qiang, my surname is Qin. You can call me Doctor Qin. Thank you for your trust," Qin Si Yue slowly walked towards the bed and pulled out a chair to sit down.

Li Qiang looked at her with gratitude. "Doctor Qin, I heard Officer Han say that when I was pushed into the CT room that day, my mother-in-law wanted to hit me, and you protected me with all your might. The person who should really be thanked is me."

"It is the duty of our doctors to save lives and heal the wounded. Every patient entrusted to us, we will do our utmost to protect and save them. You don't need to thank me. Any other doctor would have done the same," Qin Si Yue said to him with a serious expression.

Li Qiang lowered his head, pondered for a moment, and then slowly said, "Doctor Qin, please don't take what I said in the ward that day to heart."

"I won't. I understand that you were not in a stable state of mind then," Qin Si Yue looked at him with a gentle expression. "Go ahead and tell me, what exactly happened between you and your wife on the day of the incident?"

"I... I..." Li Qiang hesitated, clearly agitated.

"Don't be nervous, don't be afraid. Everything you say will be relayed to the public security organs and will serve as strong testimony for you in court," Qin Si Yue said, gently patting his arm.

Li Qiang looked up at her, and finally, he revealed the truth that had been weighing on his heart and was difficult to speak.

He was a salesman for a machinery company and had been working out of town for a long time.

Not long ago, when he returned home on vacation, he inadvertently discovered that his wife's phone communications frequently involved another man, leading him to suspect she was romantically involved with him.

His wife vehemently denied it, and the two engaged in a fierce argument.

His wife, possessing a very strong personality, in order to prove her innocence, actually picked up their one-year-old son, who was sleeping, and ran towards the window to commit suicide. They both died on the spot.

Li Qiang looked at the bodies of his wife and child below, pounded his chest, and was filled with remorse. Afterward, he jumped down himself.

After hearing his account, Qin Si Yue was shocked, finding it hard to believe such a tragedy had occurred so close to her.

She asked in a low voice, "So, you're saying your wife jumped off the building herself, and you didn't push her?"

"Of course not. How could I have lost my mind and done something so heartless as to push them both off the building?"

Li Qiang's eyes welled up with tears, and he continued with a pained expression,

"However, their deaths are indirectly related to me. If I had handled the situation calmly at the time, instead of arguing with her, perhaps such a thing would not have happened. Doctor Qin, I am a sinner. I have caused the death of two lives."

As Li Qiang spoke, he became increasingly agitated and began repeatedly hitting his head with his fists.

"Li Qiang, calm down," Qin Si Yue quickly stood up and took his hands down. "No one wants to see something like this happen. But those who are alive still have unfinished responsibilities; you shouldn't seek atonement through death."

Li Qiang slowly calmed down, his face streaked with tears as he looked at her. "Yes. Doctor Qin, you are right. I know what I need to do now."
