Chapter 207: Chapter 207: Evolution Light
Silas raised his eyebrow in amusement before nodding. "If that’s the case, then you won’t mind my presence."
Alana and Felix were taken aback by Silas’s protectiveness. Though Silas’s words might sound like a casual remark, the hidden meaning behind them was understood by both.
Ivy scowled, but she refrained from contradicting him. They had to discuss whatever was necessary in private.
"Of course not." Alana gave a natural smile. Her aura was gentle, and for some reason, Ivy even sensed a hint of calmness that one cultivates after achieving everything in their life.
It was almost as if she resembled the Alana from a previous life. Only... Alana was plagued by gloom, while this one was brimming with life.
Felix pulled the chair for Alana, and the sound of the chair’s scraping broke Ivy’s daze.
Once both Alana and Felix sat down, Ivy offered them a glass of water, and Alana only shook her head.
"No need. We are here because we want to join the base and contribute to it. We heard you are associated with it and are focusing on recruiting talent."
Silas blinked. How come it looked like thanking Ivy?
For Silas, who didn’t know Alana’s true power, it might seem that Alana was thinking about herself too highly. But for Ivy... that wasn’t the case.
"Sure! Can I know about your superpowers?" Although Ivy attempted to conceal her anticipation, her subconscious actions of sitting up straight and leaning toward Alana and Felix revealed her interest.
"I have a healing superpower and awakened it just a week ago. While my husband... he has the power to see past lives." Alana announced, her eyes staying fixed on Ivy like an eagle eyeing its prey, and sure enough, she saw Ivy stiffening a little before returning to her calm aura.
Alana wasn’t the least bit worried about Felix being harmed because of his power. To many, it was a pretty useless power, especially in an apocalypse where survival mattered more than some noble ideology of knowing what had happened in their past life.
Silas froze. He stared at Felix intently, a glint flashing past in his eyes. He wanted to know about Ivy’s past life and bring justice to her by finding all those who had hurt her.
At the same time, though, he would rather not force Ivy to recall those memories. Now, though... an opportunity was presented.
Dr. Thompson and the other experimenter could only be identified and located after he recognized those criminals’ faces. Otherwise... all the men named Dr. Thompson will have to die until Silas’s end of life.
Ivy stiffened and even wondered if Alana or Felix knew that she was reborn. What if they get to know about her safe zone superpower?
’Calm down... They don’t have solid proof. As long as I never let them see my past life... nothing will go wrong.’
"Is that so? That’s wonderful. I will ask my assistant to assign you to the developing medical department. Regarding hospitals, the team at the base is addressing the issue. Your husband could work in the divination department."
Within a few weeks, Ivy’s base had progressed rapidly.
It now has a business department to negotiate deals and regulate the small market, as well as prevent any kind of malicious reselling of the base’s items, like cheap food sold there. Then there was an army that consisted of soldiers who patrolled the base’s perimeter and inside.
Next was the divination department, though... it hardly had any talent. Other than a man named Rohan, who can only predict the events that will occur in 2 to 3 days, there was no one else.
The medical department was the next to have the least talent. Healers were rare and difficult to find.
The agricultural department, though it has many people, has productivity close to zero. It wasn’t because they weren’t talented. It is just the virus and bacteria in the air that have slowly corroded the soil, too, and now growing vegetables on the land is close to impossible.
Other than these, there was also a special training department for ordinary citizens to learn martial arts. This will increase the overall strength of the base.
Although Ivy had complete confidence in her base’s defense, she believed it was important to consider the worst possible case scenario.
Then there was a research department that still had no talent at all. Yet Ivy wasn’t in a hurry to develop it. Ivy put the development of this department on hold because the best researchers still hadn’t arrived in their country.
"Alright." Alana agreed; her eyebrows had relaxed, and her aura had turned as gentle as still water. The fondness in her gaze was so apparent that even Silas sensed it.
It wasn’t just a gaze filled with gratitude anymore... it was something more than that. Even Felix’s expression mirrored Alana’s.
Whatever their goal was... it was achieved.
After the pair left, Silas squeezed Ivy’s hand. "I will go and prepare for our departure. You should prepare on your side, too."
"Hm." Maybe she was too deep in thought; Ivy gave a half-hearted reply.
Silas, preoccupied by his thoughts, left too.
Ivy watched the tall figure leaving the office; the faint hum of the air conditioner acted like a soothing background sound.
Soon, though, she focused on the pressing matter.
’Sh*t, if I leave this country... I won’t be able to protect the base. I need to find a way to extend the range of my safe zone superpower or cut short my trip.’
With that, she took out space and psychic crystals from her temporal storage and started to absorb them. The cool energy from the crystals travelled through her nerves, and once the energy from the crystals vanished completely, the crystals themselves lost their luster and transformed into ashes.
Suddenly, the energy travelling in her body magnified, and a bright white light enveloped her.
If Silas were still here, he would have realized that the light was... the light of evolution.
