Chapter 325: Chapter 317: Game Over
Sisi had no leisure to worry about her friends and lover below; she had to complete the mission entrusted to her by Shangguan Qing. Sisi felt her whole body boiling with heat, so exhilarated—she could be a sniper too!
When the enemies launched another attack, their firepower was even more fierce than before, and the sound of gunshots and artillery was denser. Sisi lay quietly on the ground and, following Shangguan Qing’s previous instructions, aimed at the enemy’s fire points and opened fire.
One, two, three, four, five...
With every enemy hit, Sisi would count out loud. She had to remember these numbers to boast to Mr. Yun when she got back!
Clearly, the role of Sisi as a temporary sniper was substantial; the enemy forces were thrown into confusion. They couldn’t understand why a ghost-like sharpshooter had suddenly appeared on our side, and their fire points were being destroyed, quickly falling under the complete suppression of our army.
However, it seemed the enemy was not to be underestimated as they managed to call in more troops from elsewhere, with their firepower increasing several times over. It looked as if they were determined to take this high ground!
Sisi’s expression grew more grave. Our side was vastly outmatched in terms of weapons and equipment, and if no reinforcements arrived soon, our company would inevitably be lost.
The battle here was so fierce; Uncle Sam must send troops to support us, right?
But even though she didn’t know the first thing about tactics, she also knew that even if support came, it wouldn’t be that quick. At the very least, this attack had to be withstood!
With no other way out, there was only one option left: continue fighting! Sisi calmed her emotions and continued targeting the enemy one by one. At that moment, she felt as if she was not really killing people but playing the game ’All Citizen Snipers’ from her past life, firing shot after shot and blossoming blood-red roses.
In the end, she couldn’t even remember how many enemies she had killed. Her body was numb from maintaining the same position for so long; only her two hands remained agile.
The battle raged from the early morning until ten in the morning, with plenty of enemy corpses left behind and significant casualties on our side. Thankfully, the several jugs of medicinal wine that Sisi brought saved many who were severely injured.
"Company Commander, when will the reinforcements arrive?" the deputy company commander asked hoarsely, his head wrapped in a bloody bandage.
Shangguan Qing was no better off—disheveled with a raspy voice, "By eight tonight, we have to hold for ten more hours."
"Damn it, how the hell are we going to hold for ten hours? Who knew these bastards would send so many troops to grab this piece of high ground? **** our ancestors!" The deputy company commander lamented bitterly, pulling out half a cigarette from his pocket, lighting it up and taking a draw. But he inhaled too forcefully and started coughing so hard that the wound on his head began to bleed again.
"We have to hold even if it’s impossible!" Shangguan Qing declared decisively.
No one came to tell Sisi she should leave that place; she remained lying still, sipping a little water, and taking a piece of chocolate from the Space. Chocolate can quickly replenish energy, and it was the perfect time to eat it.
In the afternoon the enemy launched a final assault, intensifying their firepower several times over. Although Sisi managed to contain a lot of the enemy fire, she had not received formal training and didn’t know many tactics, so at this point, her effectiveness had diminished, and the situation was extremely critical.
Damn it!
Sisi cursed, feeling utterly useless! In TV shows, those snipers were so amazing, taking out enemy commanders with a single shot and instantly ending the game—wait, taking out the commanders?
Haha, how could she be so stupid? Not even knowing to catch the thief by first catching the king, she was a real pig!
Sisi took out a high-powered telescope from Space, and the enemy camp’s situation was crystal clear. Sisi searched one by one, and her gaze settled on a not-so-tall officer, who seemed to be in his forties. Judging by the different uniform he wore compared to the surrounding soldiers, he must be a high-ranking officer.
Who cares if he is the commander or not? He’s the enemy; just shoot first and ask questions later. One, two, three... Sisi didn’t bother guessing who those people were. They clearly weren’t ordinary soldiers, as could be inferred from the chaos in the enemy camp after their deaths.
Sisi was shooting joyfully, targeting officers as they came into view, and hitting them at their fire support points. This girl was really treating it like a game!
Just as Sisi subconsciously took down a middle-aged man in uniform, who was peering through a telescope, the enemy camp descended into chaos. They were panicking as they carried the middle-aged man into a tent.
He seemed to be someone important! Sisi murmured to herself.
Indeed, he was no ordinary man – the officer Sisi had killed was the highest commander of the enemy’s offensive. He was supposed to be safely commanding from the back. But upon hearing from his subordinates about a sharpshooter in the enemy ranks, he didn’t quite believe it and came out with a telescope to see for himself, only to be taken out by a headshot from Sisi. It was really bad luck on his part.
With the top commander killed in action, the fire of the enemy decreased noticeably despite someone taking his place temporarily. Sisi continued to play her sniping game joyfully. It was so much more fun than playing games on a smartphone!
There were three trucks parked behind the enemy camp, covered with green tarpaulins – could they be carrying supplies? Sisi instinctively felt that these trucks wouldn’t be empty.
Who cares if they’re empty or not? Following old routines, she decided to shoot first and ask questions later. Either way, the enemy would suffer losses.
However, the distance was a bit far, certainly over 1000 meters. Sisi aimed several times, finally locating the fuel tank, pressed the trigger, and ’boom’ – the entire truck burst into flames, quickly forming a fireball.
Bingo!
Sisi whistled cheerfully and moved on to aim at the next truck. However, the blaze was so intense that visibility dropped. Squinting, she took a bit more time to aim again for the fuel tank, pressed the trigger.
No reaction? A misfire? Sisi was not discouraged, kept aiming, and this time she hit the target, creating another big fireball. Before long, three huge fireballs were raging in the enemy camp, the sky above filled with billowing smoke.
"Nicely done!"
Shangguan Qing was thrilled and silently cheered for Sisi!
Maybe Sisi had indeed stumbled upon a blind cat finding a dead rat – those three trucks were likely filled with ammunition because, as the fireballs burned on, there were continuous explosions from the trucks that were so loud they could be heard from their position.
The enemy camp was thrown into disorder. The commander had fallen, and the ammunition exploded, the morale of the enemy army probably shattered by now.
Sisi silently congratulated herself and continued to snipe. Most of the officers had been killed by her, and those remaining were just the lower-ranked soldiers. No matter, with no big fish, the little shrimps would do. Sisi was not picky at all.
The enemy had already stopped their attack, taking shelter in the cat’s ear holes, and silence fell again. Sisi shifted position slightly to get her blood circulating.
As the light dimmed and darkness descended, the enemy remained quiet, probably having given up on the assault.
At eight o’clock in the evening, reinforcements arrived punctually, relieving Shangguan Qing’s company.
In these four days and nights, Shangguan Qing’s company had repelled sixteen major and minor enemy attacks. The company suffered seventy-eight casualties, including twenty-two dead, thirty-four seriously injured, and twelve lightly wounded, making it a famous real-life example of victory by a smaller force over a larger one.
