Chapter 244: Chapter 244
- KILLIAN -
I saw her. Watched her get off that van. Watched her every step and every breath and every single movement down to the minutest detail till she met my brother.
Every uncomfortable gaze as she examined this place. And every single glance she snuck my way. I felt it too. I wanted to be with her too. How could I not want to at the most crucial part of my life? Yet I couldn’t. Not yet at least. Not when I’m in the same place as the person she wants to keep our relationship private from.
That was until Liam gave me a signal. He was going to do something that would make us meet, but only for a little while so I should make the most out of it. And I will.
I watched her stand there, still and perplexed as she remains in the spot he left her in. This is when a loud noise fills the environment. It doesn’t take more than a few seconds till people are reacting to the sound blaring loudly. It’s a fire alarm.
Chaos immediately breaks through. I feel water drop on my body from the ceiling. Good. Just at the right time. The water sprinklers are on, spraying everywhere within the building. The countless bodies currently rummaging around in the building in a disorderly manner in the fight for survival was an easy way to detach myself out of Kate’s gaze and run to Hazel without raising suspicion. That is if Kate is not already gone yet.
I wade through the bodies of the crowd to where she is, still standing still, and stretch my hand forward, reaching for her hand. My palm touches hers and I interlock my fingers in hers, ensuring our grip was firm. Hazel turns to face me, panic evident in her eyes.
“We don’t have time. Come with me.” I say, my voice raised yet calm. My voice was raised so she could hear me amidst the ruckus but calm to ease her of any nervousness. Hazel doesn’t question me but nods. This makes the grin on my face widen to an excited half smile. “Brace your legs, we’re about to run.”
- HAZEL -
My heart races in my chest as he holds me, leading the way. I’ve never had to race before, at least not in this kind of scenario, yet here I am, my hand secure in that of my lover as he takes me with him through a crowd of strangers, ensuring to check in on me from time to time by arching his head backwards. Making sure our eyes are on each other’s during the short period our eyes met to ensure I was okay.
There is a smile on my face. I feel a rush of adrenaline as what feels like rain showers wets my skin, soaking my clothes. I feel my hair dampen and begin to stick on my face as I follow him. It’s almost like the world is at a stand still and the noise behind us is blurred out by the sound of my heart beat.
Is this what Liam meant by something bizarre? Because I can get used to this every once in a while.
“We’ll be taking the stairs, kitten, stay close behind me.” Killian says in my ears, clutching my hand tighter than before while pulling me closer, keeping my body nearly glued to his. It’s been a while since he’s called me that, I enjoy the nostalgia of that name.
I run up the soaked floor, carefully watching my steps as I trail right behind him. This is insane.
The fire alarm along with the sprinklers is the perfect distraction for this kind of thing. Everyone is too busy thinking about themselves to notice anyone else.
“In here.” Killian says, sliding into a door I never knew existed then pulling me inside along with him. My body slams against what I think is a wall with his hand on my back to reduce the pressure of my body hitting the wall. I look at the entrance we came in through to see a two curtains drape down to the floor, serving as doors. I laugh, returning my gaze back to him when I feel something warm and soft convey my lips, making me numb to every single thing in my surroundings.
My eyes widens at the tender touch, knees weakening to a pulp. This. . . This is something I have waited for for what seems to be my whole life.
