“Did I win?”
Wan Yunting took a cigarette from his pocket, slowly pulled one out, placed it between his lips, and lit it. He took a puff and exhaled smoke, looking at A Tai, who had stood up and was twisting his neck. His fierce gaze was heavy as he sneered, “I haven’t lost yet!”
Before he finished speaking, he gripped his saber with both hands and charged again. Wan Yunting’s lips curved into a smile. He flicked the cigarette in his hand into the air. As A Tai’s samurai sword hacked down, Wan Yunting shifted his stance with his Xingyi footwork, evading A Tai’s two blows. He then stepped forward again, closing the distance. A Tai suddenly felt his vision go black…
“Cloud Concealing Moon! Eagle Peck!”
Wan Yunting covered A Tai’s eyes with his left hand and transformed his right hand into a palm, striking directly at his chest.
Instantly, A Tai felt as if his chest had been violently hammered by a powerful force. He stumbled backward. Before Wan Yunting could finish, he grabbed A Tai’s right wrist, the one holding the saber, and pulled him back. With a half-step, he shouted, “Beng Quan!” and delivered another straight punch to A Tai’s abdomen.
This time, A Tai flew backward and landed on his knees two meters away with a thud, gagging from the pain in his stomach.
Wan Yunting caught the cigarette in mid-air, and it landed perfectly between his fingers. He took a deep drag and leisurely exhaled smoke. Looking at A Tai, who knelt on the ground unable to get up, he chuckled, “You’re no match for me!”
A Tai looked up, his fierce gaze fixed on him. The searing pain in his chest and abdomen made him tremble. Gritting his teeth, he endured. His two subordinates also glared, then, without a word, drew out their pistols. Wan Yunting’s expression changed, and he reacted instantly…
“Bang bang!”
Two crisp gunshots echoed around the abandoned construction site. A flock of small birds scattered from the woods. Feng Le’an below turned pale and shouted, rushing inside without a second thought.
Wan Yunting raised an eyebrow, surprised by their decisiveness. It seemed Chen Tao intended to silence him.
A Tai, having recovered slightly, stood up. Seeing that Wan Yunting had managed to dodge the two shots, he was shocked. His two subordinates raised their guns at him again. Wan Yunting’s sharp eyes narrowed, and he flicked the cigarette in his hand towards one of them…
In an instant, he attacked the other man. The few meters distance vanished in a blink of an eye. Before the subordinate could even pull the trigger, Wan Yunting disarmed him with a few swift moves and seized the gun. He spun around and aimed the pistol at the other man’s thigh, firing, “Bang!”
With a scream, the subordinate hit in the thigh fell to the ground. Yet, he still managed to raise his pistol and fire at Wan Yunting. But Wan Yunting swiftly dodged the bullet at close range. He stepped forward and, with a clean sweep of his leg, kicked the pistol out of the subordinate’s hand. Another powerful kick to the head sent the subordinate sprawling, unconscious.
However, when he turned back, A Tai’s samurai sword was already at the throat of Xiao Xiao, Feng Le’an’s daughter. Wan Yunting’s gaze darkened. “You’d best not have any bright ideas!”
A Tai’s expression was cold. “The boss wants you dead!”
Wan Yunting dropped the pistol in his hand and shook his head with a light laugh. “Sorry, I don’t plan on dying yet!”
Immediately, police sirens wailed from below. Feng Le’an rushed up, his face turning ashen when he saw the scene. He cried out in panic, “Xiao Xiao…”
A Tai turned his head towards the approaching police cars, his brows furrowed. Wan Yunting said, “Let the child go, and I’ll let you leave!”
A Tai glared, looking at his two injured subordinates on the ground. Given the current situation, killing the child would be futile.
“Fine.”
Facing Wan Yunting, A Tai had no choice. He lifted Xiao Xiao and walked towards his two subordinates, samurai sword in hand. With a swift slash, he silenced them, causing Wan Yunting to freeze in shock at the man’s ruthlessness.
A Tai, still holding Xiao Xiao, threw her towards Wan Yunting. Without another word, he leaped downstairs, landing on a low rooftop, and fled into the depths of the abandoned construction site.
Wan Yunting caught Xiao Xiao and handed her to Feng Le’an. He considered pursuing A Tai but stopped. Watching A Tai disappear into the derelict building, he knew that such a desperate fugitive would be of no use even if caught.
“Daddy…”
Tearing off the tape, Xiao Xiao cried out as she was tightly embraced and comforted by Feng Le’an. “Xiao Xiao, don’t be scared, you’re safe now…”
Seeing how frightened the child was, Wan Yunting sighed.
At that moment, a group of police officers stormed in, led by Luo Wenhui. Seeing the two men lying on the ground, bleeding, the officers raised their guns and shouted, “Hands on your head, get down on the ground, don’t move…”
Wan Yunting remained expressionless, making no move. Feng Le’an, holding his daughter, quickly called out, “It wasn’t us…”
Luo Wenhui frowned and walked towards Wan Yunting, demanding sternly, “What happened?”
Wan Yunting’s expression was calm. “Isn’t it obvious?”
“Wan Yunting, behave yourself!” Luo Wenhui roared, displeased with Wan Yunting’s arrogant attitude.
“Officer, these two men are the ones who kidnapped my daughter. They were killed by someone else,” Feng Le’an said, approaching Luo Wenhui with his daughter in his arms, explaining hastily, “It wasn’t us.”
Chen Xiaofei and his team examined the two bodies and reported, “Captain Luo, both of them died from stab wounds to the neck.”
Luo Wenhui frowned, glanced back at Wan Yunting, and snorted, “Take them all back.”
Feng Le’an was anxious to explain, but Wan Yunting smiled and nodded. He cooperated with the police and was taken back to the police station by Luo Wenhui. However, after questioning Feng Le’an, the full story of what happened at the abandoned construction site was essentially pieced together.
Wan Yunting, in order to save his daughter, faced the assailant alone, was then silenced by their accomplice who escaped, and then fled.
“Captain Luo, the identities of the two deceased are unknown, but it is confirmed they are from Southeast Asia!” Chen Xiaofei reported after investigating the two bodies, stating that their true identities could not be ascertained.
Luo Wenhui nodded and then looked at Wan Yunting, who was sitting before him, his brow furrowed.
Just then, Wu Chaochao and Niu Qiuling walked in, accompanied by Director Pang Yuan. Pang Yuan expressed his dissatisfaction with Luo Wenhui. “The situation is clear. Why haven’t you released the person yet?”
“Director Pang, please don’t misunderstand. I was just about to let him go.” Luo Wenhui stood up, not daring to retort.
“Director Pang, Captain Luo hasn’t made things difficult for me,” Wan Yunting said with a smile.
Pang Yuan glared at Luo Wenhui, then patted Wan Yunting on the shoulder. “Come, let’s talk in my office.”
Wan Yunting nodded, stood up, and left with Pang Yuan. Wu Chaochao and Niu Qiuling followed. Outside, Feng Le’an arrived, carrying his sleeping daughter. Wan Yunting smiled and shook his head at him. “Don’t worry, wait here for a moment. I’ll be out soon.”
“Okay.”
Feng Le’an nodded, then sat down on a nearby chair with his daughter, who was still in shock.
Back in Pang Yuan’s office, Wan Yunting sat down and took out cigarettes, offering them to Director Pang and Wu Chaochao. He lit one and took a puff. Ma Zhendong knocked and entered. Wan Yunting tossed another cigarette to him and then smiled. “Now that everyone’s here, I’ll start.”
Pang Yuan nodded; everyone waited for him to speak.
“The person who kidnapped my classmate Feng Le’an’s daughter was Chen Tao!” Wan Yunting stated, a piece of information he hadn’t shared with Luo Wenhui earlier.
“Why did Chen Tao kidnap his daughter? What was his motive?” Director Pang asked.
Wan Yunting chuckled. “Because he had leverage over Chen Tao!”
Ma Zhendong recalled something and asked, “Does he know the inside story of your rape case back then?”
“Yes.”
Wan Yunting nodded. Old Ma was indeed sharp, understanding instantly. “When Chen Tao plotted against me back then, he approached Feng Le’an first. But this classmate of mine, being upright, did not agree to Chen Tao’s terms, so he approached Huang Dawei instead!”
“So, your classmate could completely testify for you and help you get exonerated!” Ma Zhendong said happily.
“Yes.”
Wan Yunting nodded, feeling a surge of hope for clearing his name.
He then said to Wu Chaochao, “The people who abducted my classmate were from Chen Tao’s private villa, but one of them managed to escape!”
“No wonder they were only identified as being from Southeast Asia.”
Wu Chaochao nodded. Hearing Wan Yunting mention Chen Tao, he had already suspected it.
“Therefore, we must now protect your classmate Feng Le’an, lest Chen Tao goes berserk and sends someone to harm him!” Director Pang stated.
“Yes, thank you for your trouble, Director Pang,” Wan Yunting nodded.
Meanwhile, at the Chen Group, in the Chairman’s office.
“What, it failed!”
Chen Tao, upon receiving A Tai’s call, stood up in shock, took off his glasses, and his eyes widened in furious disbelief…
