Chapter 60 The Death of Shen Junjie

The two went out to find a nice restaurant for dinner. With Su Ke'er, a lively and cheerful companion, Wan Yunting never felt bored, and was even made to laugh heartily by her from time to time.

His initially constrained heart gradually opened up.

Before he knew it, he had grown accustomed to Su Ke'er affectionately linking his arm as they walked. They then went to see a newly released movie, a touching film.

This was the first time Wan Yunting had watched a movie with a girl since his release from prison. Su Ke'er was moved to tears, and it took Wan Yunting a good while to comfort her.

It wasn't until eleven o'clock at night that Wan Yunting sent Su Ke'er back to Nanfang Hospital. To his surprise, the girl, still holding his arm, suddenly asked, "Brother Yunting, do you dislike me?"

"No, I don't."

Wan Yunting looked at her strangely. Su Ke'er giggled, "Then do you like me?"

"You are quite likable."

"Not that kind of like," she clarified.

Su Ke'er, with her hands behind her back, lowered her head, kicking pebbles on the ground with her simple white shoes. Her pretty face tensed as she mustered her courage, "I mean, like, in a boy-girl way..."

Just then, Wan Yunting's phone rang at an inopportune moment. He glanced at it; it was Jin Xiuwen. "Yes, I'm coming back now. We'll talk later."

Su Ke'er's lips turned down. Wan Yunting hung up the phone and smiled at her, "Ke'er, you should go inside. I have to go back. Get some rest early. Bye..."

Watching Wan Yunting hurry to the roadside, hail a taxi, and drive away, Su Ke'er stamped her foot in annoyance and pouted, muttering, "So annoying..."

Sitting in the taxi, Wan Yunting breathed a sigh of relief. How could he not see that Su Ke'er liked him?

But then he remembered last night, when Fang Yanxi had hired lawyer Chi Heng to represent him at the police station.

Wan Yunting had been quite surprised at the time. He had always thought Fang Yanxi had lost all hope in him due to past events.

Yet, unexpectedly, she had decided to help him!

This made Wan Yunting very happy. Even if they couldn't be lovers, it would be good to return to a normal student-friend relationship...

First People's Hospital!

Sitting in the car, Huang Dawei checked his watch. It was exactly midnight.

He opened the storage compartment and took out a small bag. Inside were two disposable syringes and two bottles of medicine. Huang Dawei looked nervous, but he gritted his teeth and faced it.

Because now, he and Chen Tao were in the same boat...

A moment later, Huang Dawei, dressed in a white doctor's coat, entered the hospital carrying the small bag. Wearing a mask and glasses, the on-duty nurses and doctors didn't recognize him, assuming he was a colleague and merely nodding in greeting.

Soon, Huang Dawei went directly to the VIP ward and pushed open the door. The presence of an on-duty nurse made his heart tighten, but he calmly said, "You can go out for a late-night snack. I'll check the patient's injuries."

"Oh." The young nurse didn't think much of it and got up to leave the living area.

Seeing her leave and close the door, Huang Dawei breathed a sigh of relief. He looked at the ward door, took a deep breath to calm himself, and then turned the doorknob to enter. He saw Shen Junjie sleeping on the hospital bed.

He tiptoed over cautiously, his eyes fixed on Shen Junjie as he slept. Huang Dawei nervously took out the disposable syringe and the medicine bottle!

Huang Dawei, his hands trembling, drew out a bottle of high-concentration heroin and injected it into Shen Junjie's IV drip. After finishing, he looked at Shen Junjie and thought, "Don't blame me. Blame Chen Tao!"

He then quietly left the ward. Just then, the nurse returned with a late-night snack. Huang Dawei lowered his head slightly, "Alright, you keep on duty. I'm going to check on the next patient."

"Okay."

The nurse nodded and watched the slightly odd doctor leave, but she didn't think much of it, sitting in the living area to eat her snack.

Huang Dawei, now outside, let out a breath of relief, but there was still another to go: Wan Yunting's second elder brother, Wan Dongming!

The next morning, Wan Yunting emerged from Jin Xiuwen's apartment complex and took a taxi to work at the Traditional Chinese Medicine department.

Fang Shoushan didn't come today, but he sent his housekeeper, Lin Si, specifically to inform him about a banquet at the Fang family's residence that evening, and that someone would pick him up at six in the afternoon.

"Alright, I'll perform acupuncture treatment for Old Mr. Fang tonight then."

Wan Yunting nodded. After seeing Lin Si off, he went to the pharmacy to ask the two pharmacists to prepare another batch of medicine for his second brother. He then greeted Jiang Yichun and headed straight to the First People's Hospital.

"Second brother, I'm here to change your dressing."

Wan Yunting pushed open the door and saw his second brother leaning against the headboard, chatting with his second sister-in-law, Wang Chulin. Today, Wan Dongming seemed in good spirits, looking much better than his previously dejected state.

This made Wan Yunting curious. He smiled and asked, "Second brother, what are you two chatting about that you're so happy?"

Wan Dongming smiled, "Your second sister-in-law and I are discussing introducing a girlfriend to you."

Wan Yunting paused, shook his head, and waved his hands with a smile as he went to change his dressing. Wan Dongming said, "You're not young anymore, it's time for you to get married."

"No rush."

Wan Yunting smiled and shook his head. As they chatted, he finished changing Wan Dongming's dressing and told him to rest well. Just as he was about to leave, two policemen suddenly walked in and knocked on the door. "Wan Yunting, we have a case that requires your cooperation with the police investigation!"

Wan Yunting turned to see the arrivals, which were Niu Qiuling and her colleague, with expressionless faces.

"Officer, what case is it that requires my third brother's cooperation?" Wan Dongming asked anxiously.

Niu Qiuling didn't hide anything. "Shen Junjie is dead!"

"What."

Wan Dongming and Wang Chulin were shocked. Even Wan Yunting was surprised.

"Wan Yunting, please come out. We have some questions for you!" Niu Qiuling looked at Wan Yunting, as he was a suspect.

"Third brother..."

"Don't worry, second brother, I'll be back soon."

Wan Yunting gave his second brother a reassuring smile and turned to go out with Niu Qiuling. Chen Xiaofei wanted to handcuff him, but Wan Yunting gave him a cold glance, which made Chen Xiaofei's heart pound. Niu Qiuling quickly stopped him, "He's not a suspect yet, no need for handcuffs."

Wan Yunting sat down on a chair in the corridor. "I'd like to ask, how did Shen Junjie die?"

"Hmph, that's a question we should be asking you!"

Perhaps it was Wan Yunting's challenging look earlier that displeased Chen Xiaofei, and naturally, he didn't give him a good expression.

Wan Yunting ignored him and turned to smile at Niu Qiuling. She pondered for a moment, "He died from an injection of high-concentration heroin!"

"Oh."

Wan Yunting's eyes narrowed. He lit a cigarette, took a drag, and calmly exhaled a smoke ring. "So, you think I did it?"

"Otherwise?"

Chen Xiaofei snorted, "That night, you trespassed into Zi Qiang Financial Group and assaulted the Shen family father and son. Shen Ziqiang had a mental breakdown, and now Shen Junjie has been murdered, so you are the prime suspect!"

Wan Yunting gave a calm smile at this statement, took a puff of his cigarette, and then said, "Then how did I get the heroin?"

"Do we need to guess? You were in prison for so many years, you must have met many drug dealers and thugs inside. With your capabilities, it shouldn't be difficult to get some drugs from them!" Chen Xiaofei said.

This was also why Niu Qiuling and the others suspected Wan Yunting.

"Heh heh."

Wan Yunting chuckled lightly, calmly smoking his cigarette and saying nothing more.

At this moment, Luo Wenhui arrived with several police officers. Niu Qiuling glanced at Wan Yunting before turning to ask, "Captain Luo, what's the situation?"

Luo Wenhui also looked at Wan Yunting, then turned and beckoned. A young nurse walked out, looking nervous. Luo Wenhui pointed at Wan Yunting, "Take a good look. Is this him who entered the ward last night?"

This young nurse was the one on duty in Shen Junjie's ward last night. She carefully observed Wan Yunting's build and appearance, and then shook her head, "The person who impersonated a doctor last night was slightly chubby and shorter than him. It wasn't him."
