Hou Jia San Shao

Chapter 163 The Assassin

"Okay."

Wang Chulin looked at them suspiciously before carrying the chicken soup into the ward.

Zheng Peihui and Wan Dongming were left in the corridor. They exchanged a glance, and Zheng Peihui awkwardly lowered her head. Wan Dongming smiled and said, "Mom, I didn't tell Chulin about you borrowing money last night. After all, a hundred million is not a small sum!"

"Yes, yes, yes, I know..." Recalling last night's events, Zheng Peihui felt incredibly distressed.

The most crucial thing was that she herself might have been filmed nude and had her photos taken by those thugs. If Zheng Peihui dared to call the police, her photos and videos would appear on websites all over the country.

So, she was like a mute eating bitter herbs, unable to express her suffering.

"Mom, what business are you planning to do?" Wan Dongming asked, pretending ignorance while knowing the truth.

"Oh, that money, it's for my husband's family… that is, your cousin Zheng Feng…"

Zheng Peihui kept her head down, never daring to look directly at Wan Dongming. She lied, saying, "He wants to start a company and do business, so I borrowed a hundred million from you as startup capital. I hope he can help your father make a comeback…"

At this moment, she still foolishly believed she was truly worth a hundred million.

"I see."

Wan Dongming nodded and smiled, saying, "Don't worry, Mom. You don't have to repay that money. We'll talk about it when Zheng Feng's business is successful."

"Good, good, good…"

Zheng Peihui nodded repeatedly, then looked up at Wan Dongming and said sheepishly, "Dongming, it's been my fault in the past. I'll go to the media later to clarify yesterday's events… and I'll discuss it with your father to publicly announce that you will be our Wang family's son-in-law from now on, not a live-in one…"

After last night's events, Zheng Peihui finally understood the value of her son-in-law!

"Alright, you two arrange it."

Wan Dongming inwardly rejoiced, finally taming this cantankerous and sharp-tongued mother-in-law.

Just then, Wang Chulin came out. Seeing her red-rimmed eyes, it was clear that Wang Anrong had said more hurtful things to provoke her.

"Your father is really something. Even now, he can't see the truth. Chulin, don't be sad. I'll go in and talk to your father now."

Zheng Peihui was furious. She went into the ward and started scolding Wang Anrong on the sickbed, praising how good the son-in-law was now. This left Wang Anrong bewildered, completely unsure if his wife had taken the wrong medicine today…

"Husband, why is Mom acting so strange today?"

Outside, Wang Chulin linked arms with Wan Dongming and went downstairs, frowning. "Why has her attitude towards you suddenly improved so much?"

"I don't know what's gotten into her."

Wan Dongming feigned ignorance and smiled, "Perhaps she's finally come to her senses."

Wang Chulin looked puzzled. She knew her mother best. For her attitude towards her husband to change so drastically now, there must be something she didn't know!

"Okay, wife, stop overthinking. It's getting late, and I have to go to work."

Wan Dongming comforted her. Wang Chulin nodded and watched him drive away. Although she couldn't figure out what had happened between her mother and him, it was still a good thing…

Meanwhile, at an escape room game.

"Yun Ting ge, look, there's a locked box here."

As soon as they entered the dimly lit escape room, Su Ke'er immediately picked up a locked box on the table and fiddled with its combination lock. Wan Yunting chuckled, "The password should be around here somewhere. Let's look."

"Okay."

Su Ke'er was very interested in escape room games and was in high spirits. She grabbed a flashlight and started searching the enclosed room. After a full two minutes, she still didn't know where the password was hidden.

Helpless, Su Ke'er leaned on Wan Yunting's arm and pouted, acting spoiled, "Yun Ting ge, I can't find it. You're so smart, you do it."

Wan Yunting found it amusing and lightly tapped her forehead with his finger, teasing, "Aren't you quite clever, little one? A mere password can stump you."

"Oh, Yun Ting ge, stop teasing me. Hurry and find the password…" Su Ke'er playfully grabbed his arm, urging him to move.

Wan Yunting smiled confidently and pointed his small flashlight at a picture on the wall, saying, "The password is on there."

Su Ke'er's big eyes lit up. She immediately leaned over to search, her cute brows furrowed. "They're all numbers, which one is the password?"

"This is a math puzzle. You have to solve it to get the password," Wan Yunting explained with a smile.

"Math, huh? Then you do it. I'm naturally allergic to math,"

Su Ke'er pouted and knowingly stepped back.

This made Wan Yunting laugh. He then proceeded to solve the math problem on the wall. In less than ten seconds, he turned around, picked up the locked box, and adjusted the numbers on the combination lock.

The lock immediately clicked open. Su Ke'er's large eyes widened, and she clapped her hands, cheering, "Wow, Yun Ting ge, you're amazing! You solved it so quickly."

"It's alright. This math puzzle isn't the most difficult, but it does require some intelligence,"

Wan Yunting opened the box and took out a delicate flashlight, revealing it was a UV light.

"Are you saying my brain is slow?"

Su Ke'er linked her arm with his, tilted her head, and pouted adorably.

"You're a little silly, after all."

Wan Yunting turned to her and teased with a mischievous smile.

"Little silly."

Su Ke'er's bright, dark eyes darted around. She hugged his arm and giggled, "Then I'll be Yun Ting ge's little silly."

"Uh…"

Wan Yunting was speechless. Knowing what she meant, he quickly changed the subject, "Let's keep looking for the password, lest we get locked in here…"

"Hehe, let's get locked in. Anyway, I'm happy to be locked in with Yun Ting ge."

… Wan Yunting felt helpless. Soon, using the UV flashlight, he found the next mechanism.

In less than ten minutes, he had led Su Ke'er through fifteen challenges and directly opened the escape room door.

"Handsome man, beautiful woman, you're out so quickly."

The escape room attendant was astonished to see them emerge. "Although our escape rooms aren't the most difficult, no one has ever gotten out in less than an hour. You guys are too fast!"

"Hehe, because we have the most powerful brains!" Su Ke'er pointed at Wan Yunting beside her and said happily.

Wan Yunting gave her a proud roll of his eyes and asked the attendant, "Do you have any more difficult ones?"

"Yes, that's our ultimate escape room. You should be able to challenge it."

"Alright, take us there."

So, the attendant led Wan Yunting and Su Ke'er to their most challenging escape room and said with a smile, "If you can get out within an hour, everything is free!"

"Great, Ke'er, let's go."

"Okay."

Wan Yunting naturally took Su Ke'er's small hand and entered. To everyone's shock, the door opened in less than half an hour, making the attendant realize they had encountered a highly intelligent master today.

"This is boring. Ke'er, let's go check out the haunted house."

"Okay."

Su Ke'er happily linked arms with Wan Yunting and walked out under the envious gazes of the attendant and others…

At the amusement park parking lot, inside a black BMW sedan, two young men in black suits were seated. They stared intently at Wan Yunting and Su Ke'er as they emerged and headed towards the haunted house next door.

The young man in the passenger seat immediately took out his phone and dialed a number. It was quickly answered, and he respectfully said, "Young Master, we've found the young lady!"

"Good, bring her here to see me!"

From the other end of the phone came a man's lazy, pleasant voice.

"Yes."

The young man hung up the phone, pushed open the car door, and stepped out…

However, Wan Yunting, who was leading Su Ke'er towards the haunted house, suddenly sensed something. He turned his gaze towards the distant parking lot, where two young men were standing beside the black BMW.

Upon noticing Wan Yunting looking at them, the two men tensed up and quickly diverted their attention elsewhere…

"What's wrong, Yun Ting ge?"

Su Ke'er, who hadn't noticed anything unusual, turned to the suddenly stopped Wan Yunting and asked.

"Nothing. Let's go."

Wan Yunting turned to her with a smile and continued towards the haunted house with Su Ke'er.

The two young men exchanged a glance and immediately followed.

Wan Yunting's eyes turned cold. Seeing the two men staring at him, he deduced that they might be assassins!
