It was already eleven o'clock at night at Niu Qiuling's house.
The living room door opened slowly, and Luo Meihui peeked her head out, surveying the living room. Seeing no one, she stepped out.
Following her, Niu Jinwu, leaning on his cane, looked at his mother speechlessly and said, "Mom, aren't you afraid Qiuling will hate you for doing this?"
"Shh... Keep your voice down..."
Luo Meihui turned and shushed him, then gave her son an annoyed look. "What do you know? I'm helping them. Besides, can't you see your sister likes that Xiao Wan?"
Niu Jinwu looked stunned. He thought for a moment and then slowly shook his head. "I can't tell."
"Tsk, you single dog."
Luo Meihui lightly hit Niu Jinwu's forehead with her hand and glared at him, her expression a mix of frustration and disappointment. "While you're on vacation, hurry up and find a girlfriend. Don't you know how old you are? Mom is still waiting to hold her grandson."
Niu Jinwu rubbed his forehead where he'd been hit and said expressionlessly, "I won't look. The danger in our line of work is too high. I don't want to endanger anyone else."
"Hey, you stubborn kid!"
Luo Meihui put her hands on her hips, angry. "Your dad and I only have you as our son. If you don't get married, are you going to let our Niu family line end?"
Niu Jinwu, however, said very earnestly, "You could find a live-in son-in-law for Qiuling, and their children could take our Niu family name."
This comment made Luo Meihui's chest heave with anger. She shot her unpromising son a fierce glare and waved her hand. "I don't have time to talk about this with you now. I'll let your dad teach you a lesson later."
With that, she stopped paying attention to Niu Jinwu and carefully pushed open the door, still telling Niu Jinwu to be quiet.
Then, she entered the living room and, seeing no one, knew that Wan Yunting and her daughter Niu Qiuling must be in their room. Luo Meihui tiptoed to her daughter's door.
Seeing this, Niu Jinwu felt even more speechless, but he didn't dare say anything. He could only sit on the living room sofa, thinking about his mother's ridiculous actions and muttering to himself, "Looks like I need to be careful in the future..."
"Huh? Why is there no sound? Are they asleep?"
Luo Meihui pressed her ear against the door, listening carefully. Hearing no sound from inside, she figured Wan Yunting and her daughter might be tired and asleep.
However, to confirm if her plan for the night was successful, Luo Meihui quietly pushed the door open a crack, her eyes wide as she peered into the dim room. She saw that the bed was in disarray, and her daughter was lying on the bed with her upper body bare, in a rather ungraceful posture, fast asleep. However, Wan Yunting was nowhere to be seen.
"What's going on? Where's Xiao Wan?"
Luo Meihui's eyes widened. She immediately pushed the door open and straightened up, striding into the room. Indeed, Niu Qiuling was the only one on the bed; Wan Yunting was nowhere to be found.
Seeing her daughter's upper body bare, Luo Meihui's mind raced. "Did Xiao Wan leave early?"
Instantly, Luo Meihui lifted the quilt, pushed aside the sleeping Niu Qiuling, and carefully looked at the bedsheet for any signs of blood.
Niu Qiuling, who was asleep, was stirred awake by Luo Meihui's movements.
Since Wan Yunting had made her throw up earlier, and she had slept for a few hours, Niu Qiuling felt a bit dizzy but was mostly awake. Seeing her mother rummaging through her bed, she mumbled sleepily, "Mom, what are you looking for?"
"The evidence of virginity..."
Luo Meihui continued her search, looking puzzled. "Why isn't there any?"
Niu Qiuling sat up and realized her top was missing. She immediately pulled the quilt up and exclaimed, "Mom, who took off my clothes?"
Luo Meihui looked up and glared at her. "Of course, Xiao Wan did."
"Ah."
Niu Qiuling's eyes widened, and she was completely stunned.
Luo Meihui, who couldn't find any evidence, looked serious and sternly asked, "Qiuling, tell me honestly, did you have a boyfriend before?"
Niu Qiuling was scratching her head, trying to recall what had happened. Hearing her mother's nonsensical question, she asked, "Mom, what are you talking about? Also, where did Wan Yunting go? Why did he take off my clothes? What did he do to me?"
"Never mind what he did to you for now. You answer me, did you have a boyfriend before? Did you give your first time to someone else?" Luo Meihui asked her very seriously.
Niu Qiuling stared at her incredibly serious mother with dazed eyes. "Mom, what nonsense are you spouting? I've never had a boyfriend."
Luo Meihui frowned. "That shouldn't be. Then why wasn't there any evidence with you and Xiao Wan tonight?"
Niu Qiuling finally understood. Clutching the quilt, she quickly sat up. "What? That scoundrel... he..."
"Quick, let me check you..."
Saying that, Luo Meihui stepped forward to pull at Niu Qiuling's pants, startling her. "Mom, what are you doing?"
"Oh, I'm just checking if you guys... did it or not..."
"No, Mom, we didn't. Definitely not. I didn't even feel anything..."
Niu Qiuling twisted her body. She genuinely didn't feel any discomfort in that area, which proved that Wan Yunting definitely hadn't...
"Really?"
Luo Meihui was a little skeptical. Niu Qiuling glared and said with certainty, "I guarantee, absolutely not."
"What's with this Xiao Wan?"
Luo Meihui raised an eyebrow. Seeing her daughter like this, it seemed they really hadn't...
"I'll call him and ask what's going on."
Niu Qiuling picked up her t-shirt and put it on. She grabbed her phone from the bedside table and called Wan Yunting directly.
Meanwhile, at home, Wan Yunting was tidying up in his room when his phone vibrated. He took it out and saw it was Niu Qiuling. The corners of his mouth couldn't help but turn up. He answered with a smile, "Awake now?"
"Hey, you scoundrel, where are you?" Niu Qiuling glared and asked directly.
Wan Yunting pulled back the curtains and walked onto the open balcony, overlooking the Holy Hall Peak Mountain, the Holy Hall Park below, and the distant night view of Huadu City. He smiled and said, "At this hour, where else would I be but home?"
Niu Qiuling jumped off the bed and asked sternly, "I'm asking you, what did you do to me?"
Wan Yunting knew she would ask this when she called. "You should ask your mother that question."
"Ask my mom?"
Niu Qiuling looked back in astonishment at Luo Meihui, who was still sitting on the bed, lost in thought.
Wan Yunting chuckled. "There was something wrong with that tiger-head wasp medicinal wine we drank!"
Niu Qiuling looked confused. "The wine was problematic?"
"Yeah, ask your mom. I'm hanging up."
With that, Wan Yunting hung up the phone, a smile playing on his lips. He shook his head and continued into the room to tidy up the quilt on the bed.
"Mom, did you tamper with the wine?" Niu Qiuling turned back, glaring at her mother with angry eyes.
Luo Meihui was taken aback and argued defensively, "Tamper with it? It's just the tiger-head wasp medicinal wine your dad brewed, but the medicinal effect might be a bit strong."
At this point, Niu Qiuling seemed to realize what had happened and said angrily, "Then why did you keep pushing us to drink it!"
Luo Meihui felt a bit guilty being accused by her daughter. "But you guys didn't succeed, did you?"
"You..."
Just then, Niu Qiuling's phone rang. It was Zhou Dong calling. She glared at her mother before answering, "Captain Zhou, what's up?"
"Come over to Guan Hongyu's place and take over from Xiao Lin and the others." Zhou Dong said.
"Oh, okay. I'll be right there."
Niu Qiuling nodded, then hung up the phone. She turned back and gave her mother a glare. "We'll talk about this later..."
"No, you're still going out this late..."
Luo Meihui got up and followed her out. Niu Qiuling went to the bathroom to change into a different set of clothes. Then, taking her motorcycle keys, she said to Niu Jinwu, who was sitting on the living room sofa, "Brother, you should go to sleep. I'm going on a mission."
"Okay, be careful."
Niu Jinwu nodded and reminded her. Niu Qiuling replied, "Don't worry," and hurried out.
"Sigh..."
Luo Meihui sighed. Niu Jinwu glanced at his mother and then, leaning on his cane, got up. "I'm going to bed."
Luo Meihui glared at him for a moment, then finally sat on the sofa, feeling very depressed and sighing helplessly.
