Chapter 1531: Chapter 1531: Do You Still Dare to Trick Your Husband?
Shen Chi was frustrated. So this was what she meant.
“Who taught you to hold grudges like this?” Shen Chi lowered his head and asked.
Their faces were so close, their noses were practically touching.
To be honest, even Xu Chaomu found it hard to resist. This man’s gentleness was simply the best weapon, and she hadn’t even done anything yet before she wanted to surrender.
Especially the warmth of his breath brushing against her face, making her heart itch.
She reached out to push Shen Chi away and pouted as she explained, “Kids will get spoiled…”
“Xiaobao is so young; what could he possibly understand?”
Shen Chi was a little impatient, his body unbearably hot. What on earth had Xu Chaomu given him to drink!
“No, no way, you better reflect on yourself. I’m going to sleep in the room next door.” Xu Chaomu couldn’t think of a good retort, she just felt like tormenting him.
Who told him to boast nonstop about his stamina?
Shen Chi grabbed her shoulders, preventing her from moving. “Not allowed.”
“My stomach hurts. Dare to touch me?”
“You!” Shen Chi frowned. Had she grown more stubborn? Just like Xiaobao, spoiled.
Even though it was obvious she was lying, he wouldn’t force her if she genuinely refused.
“If your stomach hurts, then sleep.” Shen Chi, annoyed, got off her and pulled the blanket over her, then prepared to head to the bathroom for a shower.
Thankfully, he hadn’t drunk too much of the juice. Still grumpy, Shen Chi added, “From now on, whenever you act unusually kind, I’ll make sure to stay alert.”
Xu Chaomu hugged the blanket. Hmm? Someone seemed angry…
Shen Chi took a cold shower for a full half hour, but dammit, he still felt uncomfortable.
So Xu Chaomu had no choice but to get out of bed and knock on the bathroom door. “Honey, honey, don’t catch a cold.”
“…”
“Don’t ignore me. I didn’t use a lot, I was just playing around.”
“…”
“Are you really mad? Fine, fine, my stomach doesn’t hurt anymore. Come out, okay?” Xu Chaomu finally compromised.
Seriously, like a child.
Sure enough, as soon as she finished speaking, a large hand reached out from the bathroom and pulled her in.
“Hey, you brute… Turn off the cold water… Mmm…”
“Be gentle… Ah… Ugh…”
Xu Chaomu understood one thing: the concoction she had used was clearly a lapse in judgment.
Playing games? How could she possibly win against Shen Chi?
That night, Shen Chi settled the score with interest, leaving Xu Chaomu completely worn out.
The bathroom, the couch, the bedroom—his passion was spread all over.
In the end, he carried the exhausted Xu Chaomu back to bed, pinching her cheeks lightly. “Will you dare scheme against your husband again?”
Xu Chaomu didn’t even have the strength to speak and quickly shook her head.
Shen Chi was satisfied, embracing her and tucking the blanket around her.
“Go to sleep. Once you’re rested, I’ll tell you something,” Shen Chi said as he looked at her worn-out face.
How could she be more tired than he was?!
That matter—he had planned to tell her in the evening, but it had been derailed by her trick.
Xu Chaomu yawned. She was genuinely exhausted, her legs weak and her waist sore.
“Honey…” she murmured softly, calling out to him, and then snuggled close to him and drifted off to sleep.
In less than a minute, she was entirely in dreamland from sheer fatigue.
Shen Chi glanced at the remaining juice on the nightstand. It seemed he had underestimated her; she even knew to buy something like that.
Although, this stuff worked pretty well. He couldn’t even remember how many times he had tired her out earlier…
Reaching over to turn off the light, he gently stroked her back.
Tomorrow, he planned to tell her the truth. He was sure she could accept it, but he wasn’t sure she’d be able to control her emotions.
He had also considered not telling her…
But if he didn’t, the matter would always be a source of tension in her heart—like a ticking time bomb that might never explode or might go off at any moment.
While stroking her smooth back, his fingers brushed against the gunshot wound on it.
The scar had been there for many years and had never completely faded.
How painful it must have been when the bullet went through…
She was a girl who would whine endlessly over a toothache but silently endured the pain of a bullet.
She had taken the bullet for him, without hesitation or regret.
At that moment, the Xu Chaomu in his arms hugged his waist tightly, refusing to let go.
Shen Chi continued to gently caress her, his damp lips brushing against her cheek and neck.
…
In the morning, when Xu Chaomu woke up, she shifted slightly, her movements brushing against Shen Chi’s chin.
She hadn’t expected him to still be home rather than at the office. Was it still early?
“Honey… What time is it?” Xu Chaomu asked groggily.
“Eight o’clock.”
“It’s already eight?” Xu Chaomu opened her eyes. Sure enough, sunlight poured through the window. “It’s all your fault—you kept me up too late last night.”
“How is it my fault? Who was the one who ‘kind-heartedly’ prepared juice for me?”
“…” Xu Chaomu went silent.
“There’s still some left in the glass. I don’t want it to go to waste. How about… I drink it?” Shen Chi looked at her in his arms.
Xu Chaomu was so startled she wrapped herself tightly in the blanket and moved far away. “If you drink it, I’m going straight to the studio!”
“It’s Saturday, what studio? Come here, I need to talk to you.”
“Don’t lay hands on me.”
“Okay.”
Xu Chaomu skeptically shuffled closer, only to realize her legs were incredibly sore!
Shen Chi had already thrown on a robe and casually tossed one toward Xu Chaomu as well.
Once Shen Chi was dressed, Xu Chaomu felt reassured enough to cautiously move closer.
“What do you want to talk about?” Xu Chaomu asked, curiosity growing.
Shen Chi faced her, his gentle gaze resting on her, as he reached out to tuck her messy hair behind her ear.
Seeing the tension in his facial features, she felt a slight stir in her chest.
“Mumu, do you still resent my mom?” Shen Chi asked.
Xu Chaomu hadn’t expected him to bring this up. She lowered her head, avoiding his gaze, and pushed his hand away, speaking lightly, “It’s not about resentment. Don’t ask me about this.”
Her tone was stiff. She didn’t want to answer the question.
Lately, she had worked hard to shove this issue to the back of her mind, just to keep it buried and not dredge it up again.
She hadn’t expected Shen Chi to ask.
“Then your reaction tells me you still care about it,” Shen Chi concluded.
“Shen Chi, could you stop asking?” Xu Chaomu shouted, attempting to get out of bed.
Shen Chi held her shoulder firmly, forcing her to meet his eyes.
“Let go of me! Why are you asking me this first thing in the morning? What are you trying to do?” Xu Chaomu was clearly losing her composure.
Shen Chi remembered that time she had rushed from Jin City to the hospital and coincidentally encountered Zhou Ran—her reaction had been just as intense.
Although afterward, Xu Chaomu and Zhou Ran seemed to get along on the surface, chatting and laughing, Shen Chi knew it was only superficial.
It confirmed to him that investigating this matter had been the right choice.
No matter how much she avoided mentioning it, her heart could never truly let go of it.
