Chapter 1522: Chapter 1522: Didn’t We Agree That I Would Be on Top?
Xia Chuqing picked up her bag and turned, preparing to walk past Xiao Mo. She really didn’t know what else there was left to say to him.
“Xia Chuqing, listen to me.” Xiao Mo spoke, his voice low and icy, as if tempered with frost. “Don’t think that just because you’re abroad no one cares about you. All you know is talking about love; focus your energy on studying. Take all the exams you’re supposed to take, earn all the scholarships you’re supposed to earn. Stop being useless—no one will take care of you for a lifetime.”
These words struck a nerve in Xia Chuqing. What did he mean that she hadn’t been studying properly?
Her chest tightened, and biting her lip, she turned back around to glare at him furiously. “Mr. Xiao, did I ask you to take care of me? If I haven’t, then mind your own business!”
“My money won’t be wasted on someone useless.”
“Mr. Xiao, don’t be so full of yourself! We’re studying the same major. Who knows—I might just replace you in the financial world in the future. After all, I’m eight years younger than you. I’m younger, and I have more potential!”
Xiao Mo let out a cold laugh, his expression full of disdain. Although, her “I’m younger than you” jab did hit him somewhere sensitive.
Xia Chuqing took her bag and walked away. This time, Xiao Mo didn’t stop her.
But as she was walking out of the suite, the thought of how he had helped her change her clothes last night—as well as everything he saw, both what he should and shouldn’t have—just made her feel incredibly uncomfortable.
A man outright rejects you yet continues to tangle himself with you. Isn’t that what people call “ambiguity?”
She did not like ambiguity. She liked love that was clear and unambiguous.
After going downstairs, Xia Chuqing originally intended to call Xu Chaomu, but then remembered the newlyweds were probably enjoying their honeymoon. She decided it was best not to disturb them so early.
Instead, she took a cab to the hotel she was staying at, to pick up her luggage. On the way, she grabbed a cup of soy milk and two egg tarts, and also bought some red bean cake for Song Heng.
With her flight being in the afternoon, she had plenty of time to spare, so she leisurely strolled around the nearby area.
She walked into a store selling handmade crafts and little souvenirs and saw many lovely items that caught her eye.
During her time in France, she had made many new friends. She could bring them some souvenirs from back home.
With that thought in mind, she casually bought wind chimes, sticky notes, and pens—packing her suitcase to the brim with the small gifts.
It wasn’t until she’d sat down in a taxi heading toward the airport that she sent a message to Xu Chaomu: “Sister Chaomu, I’m heading back to France. Congratulations on your new marriage.”
If her hometown weren’t so far away from C City, she really wanted to visit home.
She hadn’t seen her parents for a year now, and she missed them just a little.
When Xu Chaomu received the message, she’d already woken up and was lying in bed playing on her phone.
“Hubby, Chuqing has gone back to France already. That was fast. Do you think something might have happened between her and Xiao Mo last night?” Xu Chaomu stared at Shen Chi, looking like she was ready for gossip.
Shen Chi wasn’t particularly interested, but since Xu Chaomu was, he entertained her conversation.
“If anything happened, Xiao Mo is a beast,” Shen Chi replied.
“Mm, you’re right, hubby.”
“But…”
“But what?”
“If nothing happened, then he’d be worse than a beast.”
“….”
Xu Chaomu sighed. “Your company’s deputy manager is such a complicated guy. I can’t tell what he wants. Not marrying, not dating—who knows if it’s just him being abnormal or if he’s ambiguously involved with multiple women at once.”
“Why do you care so much?”
“Alright, I won’t.” Xu Chaomu shrugged. “Back when Chuqing liked him, I thought it was worth paying attention. But now that Chuqing doesn’t like him anymore, I really couldn’t care less.”
“Just as you should. Don’t meddle unnecessarily.” Shen Chi looked at her. “Where do you want to go for the honeymoon? Have you decided yet?”
“I haven’t had the time to think about it. Didn’t you suggest going to the Love Sea?”
“So you’re saying you’re okay with it?”
“I’ll keep thinking about it. How many days would we spend there?”
“Ten days.”
“Ten days… but what about our son? I can’t stop worrying about him…” Xu Chaomu seemed torn.
“Take your time to think it over, and once you’ve decided, let me know. A honeymoon is a once-in-a-lifetime thing, and your husband rarely gets such a long vacation. If you decide not to go, that’s fine—I was already planning to dive into the financial tower’s investment negotiations soon. Once that starts, it’s going to be a busy period of non-stop work.”
“….” Xu Chaomu felt like she’d just been threatened.
Shen Chi pinched her face, leaned closer, and laughed softly. “As for our son, I was thinking of letting him spend time with his grandparents and my dad. My father plays a great game of Go and could teach him. Your dad loves fishing—he could take him along. Kids grow up; they can’t always be glued to their parents.”
Xu Chaomu realized, when it came to arguments like this, she was no match for Shen Chi.
Shen Chi started getting up; he wasn’t one to lounge in bed. Today had been an exception, as he’d spent a little extra time by Xu Chaomu’s side.
Xu Chaomu flung herself onto him with a playful hug. “Wait! Don’t get up yet—we can chat a little longer.”
Shen Chi gave her a meaningful look. “What kind of chat?”
“I was just thinking that you make valid points. Xiaobao will be starting kindergarten this fall; letting him enjoy some playtime now isn’t such a bad idea.” Xu Chaomu spoke earnestly.
“So, does that mean you’ve agreed to go on the honeymoon with me?”
“I’m still thinking about it.”
Xu Chaomu wasn’t someone prone to indecision, but this was something she genuinely struggled with.
After all, those two little rascals were her pride and joy…
Shen Chi let out a cold huff. “I knew it. I’m clearly no longer as important to you as those two little rascals.”
“No, that’s not true!” Xu Chaomu immediately denied.
“You keep saying no, but I’ve long seen through it. Don’t bother trying to fool me.”
“….” Xu Chaomu glanced at him, then bit her lip and threw herself onto him again. “Hubby, there’s no ‘clearly’ about it! You’re just as important to me as they are!”
“Words alone won’t cut it,” Shen Chi said, fixing his gaze on her.
Xu Chaomu’s weight pressed fully against him, his clothing undone. It was clear he was struggling to maintain control.
Xu Chaomu felt his struggle. She rocked subtly on top of him, and with a teasing tone, said, “Fine, I’ll work hard on this myself. Today, I’ll let you enjoy the spoils.”
As soon as the words left her mouth, she turned red with embarrassment. She’d never “taken the lead” before and clearly lacked experience.
“Then give it a shot,” Shen Chi challenged her disbelief.
Though Xu Chaomu hadn’t done this before, she’d read her fair share of mature magazines. Besides, Shen Chi was practically a driving instructor in intimacy—surely she’d learned enough from him to manage something.
She lowered her head and bit softly at his lips, whispering, “Don’t ever say I don’t love you. If I weren’t in love with you, you wouldn’t stand a chance with me—don’t you see?”
Shen Chi grinned. Her voice had a mesmerizing pull, which was already wearing down his defenses.
Strands of her hair spilled across his face, tickling him lightly, and Shen Chi couldn’t help but feel completely captivated.
Xu Chaomu copied his gestures, tasting him with kisses that started at his lips, traveled to his earlobe, then descended further down toward his neck.
“Little Fairy!” Shen Chi could hold back no longer. Without waiting for her to continue testing him, he flipped her under him and took the lead.
“Ah… wasn’t the plan for me to take charge?” Xu Chaomu whimpered softly.
“You can’t handle it.”
“You’re the one who’s incapable! Ah—…”
As soon as Xu Chaomu realized she’d said the wrong thing, Shen Chi doubled down on his efforts, and she ended up being “tormented” the entire morning.
