Cheng Cheng and the Cicada

Volume 6 Closing Thoughts

Another month has passed, and I've written 430,000 words, bringing the sixth volume, *Brooklyn*, to a close.

This volume has filled in many of the smaller plot holes, leaving only some key major ones to be addressed in later chapters.

I have quite a few things to talk about today, and there are many things you all are concerned about, so let's break it down into sections and discuss them one by one.

[1. The Style of the Work's Ending]

Many readers may be wondering: "Author, does what you said before about a satisfying, no-regrets ending still hold true?"

Of course, it does! I've said many times that the outline, ending, and foreshadowing of this novel were completed before I even started writing. I'm just writing according to the outline step by step. Everything has remained unchanged since the moment I started writing.

Perhaps some readers will say: "You've already done xxx, how can it be satisfying!" "xxxx doesn't count as satisfying!" "Since xxx, you can't xxx, so xxx!" "Even if xxxx, it can't be considered xxx."

Hey, brothers, what's the rush?

So many crucial plot holes haven't been filled yet, why rush to a conclusion? Isn't the biggest expectation when reading this book a wide-open imagination?

I certainly can't spoil anything here, but I can only say that none of you have guessed correctly. In fact, I've already planted enough foreshadowing regarding the way the ending will be handled.

The era of dark, deep, and tragic stories is over. It's normal to have twists and turns, ups and downs, trade-offs, and sacrifices when reading a novel, but the ending must be beautiful.

I personally hate tragedies and regrets. Last night, I watched the movie *Brooklyn* for research, but halfway through I felt something was off. The female lead's love life was going too smoothly! My alert antenna immediately went up.

So, I quickly paused the movie and searched for the ending online. After confirming that the ending was acceptable, I continued watching.

As such a sensitive author, how could I possibly write a tragedy? The purpose of the protagonist and his group's efforts, the reason they're fighting so hard, is definitely for a beautiful ending.

[2. Filling the Plot Holes]

I know exactly which plot holes haven't been filled better than anyone:

The Thousand-Year Stake, the World-Destroying White Light, the Universal Constant 42, the Safe, the Genius Club and Einstein, Big Beard VV, the Mirror, Yu Xi's Letter, the protagonist's own dream-related issues... and so on. I won't list the ones related to the main storyline, as they can't be missed. If you think I've missed anything, you can add it here.

Now that there are only 400,000 to 500,000 words left until the end, let me tell you about the pace of filling the plot holes in the remaining outline.

Volume Seven, around 300,000 words, will fill in the Thousand-Year Stake, the World-Destroying White Light, the Genius Club and Einstein, and Big Beard VV.

Volume Eight, around 150,000 words, will fill in the World-Destroying White Light, the Universal Constant 42, and the Safe.

The main story will end here.

Afterward, to coincide with Qidian's official completion event, there will be three epilogues. The epilogues will fill in the Mirror, Yu Xi's Letter, the protagonist's own dream, and many other things.

So...

With such a complete, rigorous outline and established plan, we've even arranged what plot holes to fill in the epilogues. You can rest assured.

[3. Subsequent Updates]

Writing 2.43 million words in seven months has really taken a toll on my body.

My body can still handle it for now, but for the final part, I want to polish it carefully. There are many very important scenes, and I want to think them through properly.

This is being responsible to the work and also to the readers.

As I said in a previous single chapter, the most important thing about a novel is the ending, the resolution of foreshadowing, and seeing things through to the end.

To this day, my original intention remains unchanged. I'm not writing this book to make money or for achievements, but to write a book that I can be proud of, a book that is worthy of myself.

Even now, this book is still hovering in the top three on the best-seller list, and it's often number one. If I continue to update with 10,000 words per day, I could definitely earn more money.

However.

I'm writing this book with the mindset of, "I'm only going to write this one book in my life, so I must write it well."

Achievements are not important, and making money is not important. What's important is that this book lands perfectly, tells the story well, and is worthy of my conscience.

Therefore, for the final two volumes, with a length of 500,000 words, I've decided to update [one chapter per day], [each chapter with five to six thousand words], [polish it carefully], and [carefully craft some famous scenes].

The experience of following the updates may be a little worse.

So, I suggest you let it accumulate, or even wait until it's finished before reading it.

I've put a lot of effort into this book, so I want to take it to the next level at the final moment.

Therefore, from now on, I will update one chapter per day, still at 6:00 PM, and it will be completed by the end of October.

Everything is for the quality and completeness of the work, so please understand and forgive me.

[4. Taking a Day Off Today]

This is the first time I've taken a day off since the serialization of this work (the previous time I took half a day off doesn't count~). The reason is that I've never been to Brooklyn in 1952, so I can't just write blindly. I need to collect a lot of information from that year.

Prices, economy, people's livelihoods, social situation, and most importantly... some buildings and addresses exist now, but were these buildings and addresses built in 1952?

This all needs to be investigated and verified. I can't just search for what buildings and locations are in Brooklyn now and force them into 1952. That would be irresponsible. I must ensure that the building existed in 1952 before I can write about it.

Although the Brooklyn plotline is less than 100,000 words, I feel that I still need to be serious and rigorous in this regard. As I said before, I'm responsible to the work.

Tomorrow, the story of Volume Seven will officially begin—
