Cheng Cheng and the Cicada
Volume 4 Closing Remarks
The updates were fast, averaging over 15,000 words per day.
This was mainly thanks to everyone's generous monthly votes, which the author had to reciprocate with extra updates.
According to my original outline, each volume of this book was planned to be around 300,000 words, with a fixed content and ending. So, writing quickly and updating more frequently naturally meant fewer days were needed, since the total word count and content of each volume were fixed.
The outline and ending of this book were determined from the very beginning, with a total of 8-10 volumes planned. Therefore, we are now past the halfway point, all the plot threads have been laid, and the subsequent parts will focus on resolving them and bringing the story to a conclusion.
Now, looking back and offering a final verdict, let's evaluate the story of the fourth volume, *Yu Xi*.
I personally believe that this volume's story is quite complete. Although some suspense will need to be resolved at the beginning of the fifth volume (because Jask, carrying the small refrigerator, hasn't arrived at the scene yet), the volume title is *Yu Xi*. Starting with Yu Xi and ending with Yu Xi, I think it's best to end here.
In terms of style, this volume leans more towards reasoning, suspense, and mystery-solving. Compared to the fast-paced style of the third volume, it's closer to the exploration style of the first volume, only lacking the dream sequences, as the protagonist is still stuck.
Many readers have said they want to see dream sequences, want to see CEO Zhao, want to see [omitted], want to see [omitted] slaughtering everyone... Actually, the author also knows what everyone wants to see, but after all, the protagonist of this book doesn't have any powerful cheat abilities, and limited by the realistic framework, the progress and advancement of the story require logic.
The reason why powerful enemies are powerful is precisely because they are difficult to defeat, but we must persist and fight repeatedly to overcome them.
Currently, the word count of this book has exceeded 1.45 million words. I still have the plot under control, developing it in an orderly manner, and gradually recovering foreshadowing. The story is steadily entering the next stage.
The advantage of having a complete outline and detailed outlines for each volume is that I never worry about writing off track or collapsing the story. In fact, there are no side stories in these 1.45 million words of content. Every character that appears is not wasted and is strongly related to the main plot.
Perhaps sometimes some readers feel that a certain plot is superfluous and seems meaningless, but in fact, it's just that the foreshadowing hasn't erupted yet. For example, the "Paternity Test" segment in this volume is now clearly a huge foreshadowing.
Since you've already followed the story to this word count, please be more patient and understand this type of theme and writing style, which is not very popular in the online novel world... Of course, I know what kind of popular plots everyone wants to see, but to tell a complete and logical story well, the author must firmly grasp the overall direction.
Just as the author mentioned in a single chapter at the beginning of this book when no one was reading it, I want to write a truly good story, a story that has been in my heart for a long time, and I will persist no matter the results.
It is precisely because of this persistence that this book survived the initial lack of interest, lack of optimism, crazy abandonment of the book, and overwhelming scolding, to the point where I didn't dare to create a reader group to face everyone... But in the end, with everyone's support, we ushered in the dawn.
This shows that writing a story that is not so formulaic and not so cliché with heart will really be appreciated by some people.
I am proud that I can have the best group of readers, a group of friends, a group of confidants in this world; who can share weal and woe, and have come all the way, never abandoning me.
Therefore...
I will be responsible for everyone's trust, be responsible for this book, tell this story without forgetting my original intention, let it land perfectly, and usher in an inevitably victorious ending.
The reader group has been established and can be joined with one click from the work introduction and the "Author's Words" at the end of the afterword.
So.
Thank you everyone!
See you tomorrow for the next volume's story—
