"What's Qin Tianyi's condition? Is he close to dying? Are you all at the hospital?" Ya Nan asked again.
Susu said with difficulty, "I'm fine... and he's fine..."
"Do you still consider me a friend? The internet is full of news about Qin Tianyi having a terminal illness, and there are photos of you and Xiao An Jing entering and exiting the hospital. A nurse from that hospital even came out to confirm that Qin Tianyi has a terminal illness, and you're still saying you're fine!" Ya Nan became anxious and spoke rapidly.
Susu still didn't understand what was happening and said hoarsely, "Don't worry, I'll contact you later."
After hanging up, she quickly got up and dressed up, not wanting Tianyi to see her looking too haggard. She ate something casually and then went to the hospital with the soup that Xiao Mei had prepared.
She and An Jing had clearly been very careful to keep Tianyi's surgery a secret and hadn't revealed it to anyone. How did it become common knowledge, and how was Tianyi being described as having a terminal illness?
However, as Xiao Lin drove her, before the car even reached the entrance of the private hospital, they saw a crowd of reporters from afar.
Susu, afraid of being discovered by the reporters, asked Xiao Lin to quietly park the car by the roadside. She then called An Jing's mobile, wanting to inquire about the situation at the hospital.
As soon as the call connected, before Susu could speak, An Jing asked, "Susu, did you rest well after you went back yesterday?"
"I'm fine, I'm not tired anymore," Susu said anxiously. "I've just arrived at the hospital entrance, but there are media reporters everywhere. I'm afraid I can't get in through the main entrance."
"Okay, I'll have a nurse guide you in through another entrance."
"An Jing, how is Tianyi? Everyone knows Tianyi is hospitalized now. What should we do?"
"Tianyi slept very well last night. By the way, the doctors here have received a reply from foreign experts saying that Tianyi is fine now. Him waking up is a miracle, and it's related to his own strong willpower," An Jing said in a light tone. "Come to the ward first. He's been asking when you'll be coming. It's okay if this news gets out; we already have a plan."
Susu felt relieved hearing An Jing say that. Since she couldn't call Ya Nan back now, she could only send her a message, telling her not to pay attention to the news online, that Tianyi was fine, and they were all fine.
After receiving Susu's message, Ya Nan still felt uneasy and called Kang Xi to talk about it.
Kang Xi listened and said rationally, "Stop worrying unnecessarily. If Sister Susu says you're fine, then you are truly fine. Haven't we seen enough gossip about them? They are in a wealthy family full of drama and involved in too much business interest. It's normal for things to be true or false."
Ya Nan said, "Okay, you're right. Forget it, I'll ask Susu out again when she has time. It's best if they are all fine."
"Have you had lunch? Don't just stare at the computer screen looking at numbers. Remember to rest every half hour," Kang Xi added as a reminder.
"Talking to you on the phone is my eye exercise."
"Then I won't talk to you anymore. I have to go on a mission." He was about to hang up.
Ya Nan quickly asked, "Wait, are you working overtime tonight?"
Kang Xi said uncertainly, "It's hard to say. If I have to work overtime, you go home by yourself. Don't always wait for me at the office to pick you up."
Ya Nan pouted and said, "If you're working overtime, I'll be bored staying home alone. I might as well work overtime at the office too and strive to become a full-time employee soon."
Kang Xi, unable to do anything about her, said, "Okay, I really can't talk to you any longer. Bye."
Ya Nan still held her phone, feeling a little disappointed. They were no longer separated by distance, but their respective jobs were still very busy. They rarely got to eat dinner together more than once or twice a week.
However, her disappointment came and went quickly. She adjusted her mood and focused on the financial statements again.
In fact, before the Lunar New Year was the busiest time for their accounting firm, as many companies would entrust them with audit reports and the like.
A nurse, dressed in inconspicuous casual clothes, slipped out from the back door of the hospital and quietly led her in. She finally saw Tianyi again.
She saw Tianyi lying on the hospital bed, with the respirator and some of the instruments that had been connected to him removed.
Sunlight streamed through the gaps in the blinds, casting striped shadows on his face.
Even though she knew he was fine, Susu couldn't help but feel a prickle in her nose.
When she walked into the ward, she didn't see An Jing and wondered where he had gone. Wasn't it agreed that he would stay by Tianyi's side?
She walked to the window and closed the blinds completely, preventing the sunlight from shining on him and disturbing his sleep.
"An Jing," Tianyi said with a sleepy nasal voice, calling for Xiao An Jing.
Susu quickly turned and came to the bedside, wanting to ask how he felt, but her throat hurt too much to make a sound.
"An Jing, pour me a glass of water," Tianyi called out again, slowly opening his eyes and finding Susu by his bedside.
Susu had already gone to get him a glass of warm water, inserted a straw, and offered it to him as he lay there.
However, Tianyi didn't want to drink water while lying down. He said, "Help me sit up."
Susu motioned for him to not move, raised the hospital bed, and then handed him the cup of water.
Tianyi drank more than half a cup of water and felt better. He looked at her intently and said, "I did it. I didn't abandon you and the children. How will you reward me?"
Susu hugged him tightly, resting her face against his chest, tears of joy streaming down her face uncontrollably.
Tianyi gently stroked her shoulder. Her tears seemed to fall into his heart. He noticed she had lost a lot of weight and said with concern, "You've had a tough time these past few days."
Susu rubbed against him in his arms and shook her head, implying it wasn't tough.
Tianyi said curiously, "When I was unconscious, I vaguely felt you talking incessantly next to me, which annoyed me to death. Now that I'm awake, why aren't you talking?"
Susu continued to hug him without speaking. He then simply tilted her face, forcing her to look at him, and asked, "Why aren't you talking to me?"
"Don't... want... to... talk..." Susu sat up and pointed to her throat.
"What's wrong with your throat?" Tianyi had been wondering last night if her throat would be affected, and now her voice was indeed hoarse.
Susu waved her hand at him and said in a hoarse voice, "It's nothing... it'll be fine in a couple of days."
However, he had already pressed the emergency call button. Susu thought he was feeling unwell again and anxiously asked, "What's wrong with you?"
Tianyi pointed to her lips with his finger. "Don't talk. I'll have the doctor examine your throat."
"No need... the doctor responsible for you... is a neurologist..."
Tianyi tightly gripped her shoulders and said guiltily, "I'm sorry. If I could have woken up sooner, your throat wouldn't be hoarse."
Susu wanted to say that her situation was nothing and that the one who should apologize was her. He was always getting hurt for her, having gone through several near-death experiences. She truly feared that one day she wouldn't be so lucky.
But she only managed to say three words, "You're silly."
"Yes, you forgot. You married a fool from the start," Tianyi pinched her cheek.
