Chapter 896 I've Made You Suffer

Tianyi heard the sound of gunfire from outside, and his heart pounded with fear that An Jing might be injured.

After the firing stopped, he saw An Jing running out in a panic, holding Lan Yu, who had a pale face, in his arms. He hurried forward to ask, "Is Lan Yu injured?"

"Ambulance, call an ambulance quickly!" An Jing shouted in panic.

Tianyi quickly walked ahead of him and said, "Yes, two ambulances followed us in advance, they're parked over there."

"Quick, save her..." An Jing's voice was weak.

Tianyi simply sprinted ahead to notify the medical staff in the ambulances.

He knew that something must not happen to Lan Yu, or An Jing would completely collapse!

...

Susu stayed alone in the hotel room, not sleeping all night, waiting for news from Tianyi and An Jing, fearing something might happen to them.

But it was almost dawn, and there was still no news.

She paced restlessly in the room, almost going crazy with anxiety, but she couldn't contact them proactively for fear of disrupting their plans.

She walked to the window, looking at the sky that was already dimly lit, and could only pray that nothing would happen to them.

After standing until her legs were sore, she sat back on the sofa. Her phone suddenly rang.

She almost jumped up. Seeing that it was Tianyi calling, she quickly answered.

"Tianyi, are you okay? How is it? Did you save Lan Yu? And An Jing..."

Tianyi interrupted her tiredly, "An Jing and I are fine. Wen Wei was shot and killed. Lan Yu, Lan Yu is seriously injured and is still in the hospital fighting for her life."

Susu's heart clenched. She asked, "Which hospital? I'll come find you."

"No need, An Jing is here to keep her company..."

"Didn't you say Wen Wei is dead? Then no one will target me anymore. It's okay for me to go to the hospital," Susu emphasized. "We can't leave An Jing alone at the hospital at this time, don't you think?"

"Okay, then you can come," Tianyi said, telling her the hospital address.

Susu noted down the address and rushed to the hospital.

She arrived outside the emergency room and saw that Lan Yu had just been resuscitated and was being wheeled out.

An Jing followed the moving hospital bed, his eyes only on the still unconscious Lan Yu.

Susu also wanted to go see Lan Yu, but Tianyi pulled her back.

"Let An Jing go to the ward with her," Tianyi said. "The doctor just said they removed the bullet from her back, and she's no longer in danger."

Susu felt relieved and didn't follow any further. She looked at Tianyi and said, "Are you alright? How did Lan Yu get injured?"

"When the police arrived, Wen Wei realized he'd been tricked and acted desperately. He originally intended to kill An Jing, but Lan Yu took the bullet for him," Tianyi explained.

"Oh my god, Lan Yu is so brave," Susu admired her.

Tianyi hugged her. "Since Lan Yu is out of danger, let's go back and rest. Last night was really terrifying."

Susu nodded, but her heart seethed with hatred for Xie Qining and his wife.

Although Lan Yu was no longer in danger, she was still seriously injured, and Susu could not forgive Yang Shasha.

Back in the hotel room, she drew a bath for Tianyi, letting him soak and get some much-needed sleep.

...

An Jing nervously guarded Lan Yu's bedside. Even though he knew she was no longer in danger, his heart ached terribly.

He felt she was too foolish. When she realized Wen Wei was targeting him, she should have let him dodge, not directly take the blow for him.

If she had lost her life because of this, he would have lived with guilt and regret forever.

Not long after the anesthetic wore off, Lan Yu slowly regained consciousness. She opened her eyes and looked uncomfortable.

"Does your wound hurt a lot?" An Jing quickly stood up and leaned over her by the bedside to ask.

Lan Yu's face was still pale from blood loss. She said, "Yes, it hurts a bit. Are you, are you not injured?"

"I'll call the doctor to check on you again," An Jing said, about to go outside the room to call for a doctor.

"Don't go," Lan Yu called out to him. "It's normal for it to hurt a bit. Will you stay with me?"

An Jing sat down, took her hand, and placed it on his cheek, saying guiltily, "I'm sorry for making you suffer."

Lan Yu smiled and said, "I thought I was going to meet God..."

"Don't talk nonsense," An Jing stopped her from saying such ominous words. "Aren't you fine now? We will all be fine from now on."

Lan Yu hummed, wanting to reach out and touch the stubble on his face, but felt a sharp pain in her back as she lifted her left arm.

"Don't move, rest well," An Jing proactively took her left hand again.

Lan Yu said slowly, "I'm heartbroken for you. Look at how haggard you are. You haven't had a good rest since Xiaoxiao disappeared. It's my fault for not taking good care of Xiaoxiao here."

"How can this be your fault?" An Jing said dejectedly. "I sent you all here hoping you could stay away from the troubles in Lancheng, but those who want to harm you still won't let you go. You can't escape even here."

"You mean Xiaoxiao's disappearance wasn't an accident?" Lan Yu guessed. "Are the people who want to harm us from the Xie family? Did they do all this?"

"Yes and no," An Jing said, his eyes reddening. "And Yang Shasha, who wanted to harm Susu, is Xie Qining's current wife. They are all involved."

"That actress? Why, why would she want to harm Susu? She should be targeting me," Lan Yu asked in confusion.

An Jing comforted her, "You've just woken up, don't think too much. Focus on recovering first. This matter is very complicated. I'll tell you when you're better."

Lan Yu rested for a while without asking further questions, with some things on her mind she didn't know whether to say.

But she really felt heartbroken that An Jing was so persistent in finding Xiaoxiao, so she spoke up, "Are you, are you still going to keep looking for Xiaoxiao? If, I mean, if you can never find her, do you plan to search your whole life like this?"

An Jing gritted his teeth in pain and lowered his head. It wasn't until Lan Yu was injured for him that he realized he had poured all his energy into finding Xiaoxiao, neglecting his other family members.

If he had spent more time with Lan Yu and Luo Si, Lan Yu wouldn't have become depressed, wouldn't have been kidnapped, and almost lost her life.

He finally decided to put it aside for now and pay more attention to his loved ones. He said, "I think I'll just post missing person notices from now on and won't go out searching myself. If someone provides a credible clue, I'll take the time to verify it. I will spend more time with you and the baby. During this period, I haven't fulfilled my responsibilities as a husband and father."

Lan Yu stared at him blankly, disbelieving that he was actually planning to let go of the matter of Xiaoxiao. Tears welled up in her eyes.

An Jing, filled with guilt and heartache, gently hugged her and whispered in her ear, "When you're better, we'll go back to Lancheng."
