When the night was deep, Meng Yao had not yet slept. She quietly ran to the living room to wait for Huangfu Shaohua to return, just wanting to ask who his driver was.
Tonight, Huangfu Shaohua was the last student to leave the boxing club. He had successfully given Daisy a gift and was in a good mood.
As he hummed a tune and entered the door, a figure suddenly appeared before him.
"Second Brother, you're back."
He was startled, but upon hearing Meng Yao's voice, he quickly calmed down.
"You're not sleeping so late, running out to scare people."
Meng Yao knew that Huangfu Shaohua doted on her. She linked her arm through his and said, "Second Brother, you know it's late. Why are you only getting back now?"
"I had a meeting with a client," Huangfu Shaohua said, using a casual excuse to cover up.
Meng Yao, however, smelled the scent of shower gel on him, indicating he had recently showered. She smiled and said, "You finished talking business with your client and then took a shower too? Where were you having this meeting, a bathhouse?"
Huangfu Shaohua avoided her question and said, "You're waiting for me specifically. Tell me, what is it?"
Meng Yao gave him a sly smile, "I just want to ask you something."
Seeing her smile, Huangfu Shaohua felt as if his familiar sister had returned.
"I'll answer anything you ask."
Meng Yao pulled him to sit on the living room sofa and asked hesitantly, "The driver who drives you... what's his name?"
Huangfu Shaohua stiffened slightly but immediately reacted and retorted, "What are you asking this for?"
"I just want to know, tell me quickly," Meng Yao asked anxiously.
"His name is, it seems, Old Li," Huangfu Shaohua said, using the name of his former driver.
"Old Li? Is your driver that old?" Meng Yao asked doubtfully. "When Jiaxi and I went to the parking lot, we saw your car leaving. In a flash, I thought your driver looked a lot like Song Jiaping..."
"You must have been seeing things," Huangfu Shaohua took out his phone and showed her a photo he had accidentally taken of his driver during a past event. "This is Old Li."
Meng Yao completely believed him, realizing she had indeed mistaken him.
Seeing how much she cared about Song Jiaping now, Huangfu Shaohua felt a pang of guilt for not telling her the truth.
"I saw you and Jiaxi shopping together today. Have you made up? You don't remember anyone, so why do you care so much about Song Jiaping?"
Meng Yao curled up on the sofa, hugging her knees. "Perhaps it's because he was the first person I saw when I woke up. And even though I still can't remember anything, I keep dreaming of us together. I believe he's wrong, what exactly is going on between him and me?"
Huangfu Shaohua had intended to tell her that marrying her to Song Jiaping was just for good luck, but he held back, afraid she couldn't handle the shock now. It would be better to tell her when she recovered her memory.
"I'm not clear about your situation with Song Jiaping either. Before you went abroad, you were indeed very close to Jiaxi. What happened between you later, only you will know when you remember."
He ruffled her hair. "Alright, don't think too much. Go to sleep."
Meng Yao hummed and returned to her room.
At this moment, she suddenly wished she could regain her memory, not wanting to keep guessing about Song Jiaping.
The next morning, Song Jiaping was summoned to Huangfu Shaohua's office.
Song Jiaping didn't know why he was called. Instead of calling directly to request a car, he was asked to come to the Financial Information Department.
The secretary who had looked down on him earlier still wore a disdainful expression as she saw him walk into Huangfu Shaohua's office.
Song Jiaping ignored such people, only wanting to know what Huangfu Shaohua wanted.
"You're here, have a seat," Huangfu Shaohua said, looking at him.
"Second Young Master, do you need me for something?"
Huangfu Shaohua handed him a form and said, "Take this. Fill it out and submit it to the HR department. You don't need to be my driver anymore. You'll be a formal employee in my department. You know typing, copying, and office software, right?"
"Yes, I do," Song Jiaping said, slightly surprised. "But I have no experience in financial information..."
Huangfu Shaohua said, "Lack of experience can be accumulated. I'm doing this for my sister. She saw you in the mall parking lot yesterday and kept asking me about the driver. I think if you don't want her to find out, it's best not to be a driver anymore."
In fact, Song Jiaping had also seen Huangfu Meng Yao in the mall parking lot. She was with Hong Jiaxi.
It seemed that after he left, Meng Yao had found new solace, and she would probably forget him soon.
"Okay, thank you." Song Jiaping picked up the form and was about to leave.
Huangfu Shaohua asked, "There's something I don't understand. Why did you, a good doctor, come to the group to start from scratch? Isn't that a waste of your profession?"
"Even if I worked as a doctor for my entire life, I wouldn't be a match for Meng Yao. I want to learn finance and possess wealth comparable to your Huangfu family in the future, so that when Meng Yao and I are together, you won't look down on me."
"Alright, your reason sounds plausible, but aren't you afraid that by the time you acquire wealth, you'll have already lost Meng Yao?" Huangfu Shaohua reminded him. "Whatever your reason, I hope you still find an opportunity to speak frankly with Meng Yao and not let her keep holding onto your unrealistic promises."
"I understand." Song Jiaping's fingers tightened around the form as he turned and left his office.
After Song Jiaping filled out the form and submitted it to the HR department, he finally had his own desk in that department.
In the beginning, he approached Huangfu Meng Yao simply because she was the daughter of his enemy. He truly only intended to use her.
But after accompanying her as a doctor without borders, many things happened abroad, and he genuinely fell for her. He no longer wanted to use her.
He had not expected Meng Yao to have an accident and lose her memory.
Now that he had successfully entered the Huangfu Group, it was time to distance himself from her and not let her harbor any illusions about him.
At night, he finally turned on the phone that had been turned off and sent Meng Yao a text message: "I've returned to Lancheng. Let's meet at your favorite cake shop tomorrow."
After sending the message, he turned off his old phone again.
He dared not hear her voice, fearing he would change his mind again.
He had originally intended to use her to achieve his revenge quickly, but later he kept delaying it because of her.
He knew he couldn't hesitate any longer, or he wouldn't be able to face his mother who had raised him with so much hardship.
Meng Yao was about to go to sleep when she suddenly received Song Jiaping's text message. Overjoyed, she sat up in bed and immediately called him back.
But his phone was turned off again. She reread the message; it was indeed from Song Jiaping.
Perhaps he wanted to give her a surprise. Anyway, she would see him tomorrow, so she lay down again, full of anticipation.
The next morning, Meng Yao dressed up nicely and told Wu Xiufang that she wanted to go out for a walk by herself.
Wu Xiufang, seeing that she was in a good mood, agreed. She instructed the family driver to accompany her for pick-up and drop-off, so she wouldn't be unsafe going out alone.
