Lan Yu’s stomach was pumped, and she lay on the hospital bed receiving an IV drip, still unconscious.
Xiao Anjing was forced to stay by her side, feeling like he had gone mad to bring her to the hospital. He should have just thrown her out of the car if he was going to be mistaken for a pervert.
He didn’t know when she would wake up. Trapped here, he couldn’t do anything. The charity gala was over. Feeling drowsy, he propped his head up with his hand, listening to the woman’s even breathing.
He looked at her indignantly. Even on the hard bed in the emergency room, she could sleep so soundly. Her beautiful eyes were furrowed even in her sleep, as if she carried endless pain and sorrow.
He stayed until midnight and, unable to bear it any longer, leaned against the wall and dozed off. In his sleep, he suddenly heard someone scream, "What is this place? What do you want?"
Xiao Anjing woke up. Seeing that she had finally woken, she sat up in bed, her dry lips bitten in fear. He snorted, "What do I want? You should ask yourself what you did to me!"
Lan Yu saw the doctors and nurses drawn by her scream. Looking at herself receiving an IV drip, she finally realized she was in a hospital.
"You brought me to the hospital?"
Xiao Anjing glared at her, full of anger, and retorted, "Who else would have?"
At that moment, the doctor who had received her separated her from Xiao Anjing and asked, "How did your hand get injured? Why did you faint? Don't be afraid, this is a hospital. He wouldn't dare do anything to you. Just tell the truth."
Xiao Anjing’s vision was blocked by the doctors and nurses. He couldn’t see Lan Yu’s expression and didn’t know if this ungrateful woman would say anything foolish.
"It wasn't him. He helped me."
Xiao Anjing heard her affirmative voice. This woman finally had some conscience.
He breathed a sigh of relief, stood up, and said to the doctor, "Did you hear that? I told you it had nothing to do with me. If it weren't for me, she would still be tied to a bed by some filthy man."
The doctor ignored Xiao Anjing and asked Lan Yu again. Her answer remained the same.
The doctor thought he was being nosy and turned to Xiao Anjing, saying, "Since she's awake, there's nothing else. You can go after getting the medicine."
Xiao Anjing considered himself unlucky. Seeing that she was still on an IV drip, he went to pay for her and get the medicine.
After her IV drip finished, he walked with her to the hospital entrance, threw the medicine prescribed by the doctor at her, and said, "Farewell, and don't let the door hit you on the way out."
Lan Yu recalled the entire incident. This President Xiao had not only treated her with utmost respect but had also been helping her. It was she who had prejudged him as a bad person. Embarrassed, she said, "President Xiao, how much did you pay for my medical expenses? Give me the bill, and I'll pay you back later."
"No need. It would be better if we don't meet again." After saying that, Xiao Anjing walked directly to his car parked on the roadside.
Lan Yu watched his retreating figure and smiled sadly. They were just strangers who met by chance. His help was merely out of pity, and deep down, he still despised her.
She still felt a bit weak and slowly walked to the roadside to hail a taxi.
Xiao Anjing had already driven past her, but he thought about whether it would be dangerous for a single woman like her to take a taxi home in the middle of the night.
He drove ahead and, upon reaching a traffic light, turned around. Deciding to see this through, he would send her back.
Lan Yu was anxious as she hadn't managed to get a taxi. Suddenly, a car stopped beside her. She looked over, and the car window slowly rolled down, revealing the man's cold profile.
She froze. How could it be him again? Xiao Anjing.
Xiao Anjing's voice was devoid of warmth. He commanded, "Get in."
Lan Yu was a little taken aback. Could he be kindly sending her home? Or had he suddenly developed other intentions towards her?
Xiao Anjing saw her hesitation and turned his entire face towards her, saying, "Don't worry, you're too dirty. I'm not interested in you."
Although Lan Yu's heart felt as if it had been pricked by something, she maintained a smile on her pale face and, without further hesitation, opened the car door and got in.
"President Xiao, you are indeed different from other men. You're just a more cunning and better-disguised big-tailed wolf."
Xiao Anjing didn't mind her weak retort and simply asked, "Address?"
Lan Yu stated an address. Xiao Anjing asked no further questions and drove her there directly.
After dropping her off and watching her get out and walk away alone, he realized she lived in such a mixed and chaotic neighborhood. No wonder she had foolishly disregarded the consequences when someone offered to invest ten million in her company.
He felt he had done everything he could tonight. Tomorrow, he would inform Susu. Thinking that he was merely completing what Susu had asked him to do, he felt a sense of relief.
...
The next day, Susu was awakened by a knock on the door.
"Young Madam, are you awake? Young Master Anjing arrived at ten this morning and has been waiting for you," Xiao Mei said from outside the door.
Susu woke up. She had finally managed to fall asleep last night, but she had also had a strange dream.
She dreamt that she and Tianyi were dancing on the dance floor at last night's charity auction. Tianyi was wearing a tuxedo, like a prince from a fairy tale, dancing with her.
Her belly was not so big, and their dance was incredibly harmonious. As they finished their dance, when Tianyi held her waist as she was about to fall, his handsome face suddenly transformed into Aban's appearance, startling her. However, his deep, affectionate eyes remained unchanged.
Susu did not respond to Xiao Mei. She lay in bed, recalling Aban's eyes from last night. They lacked Tianyi's affection, and the color of his pupils was different from Tianyi's. She was overthinking things, which was why she was having such strange dreams.
"Young Madam, are you alright? Can you hear me?" Xiao Mei's voice sounded again from outside the door.
Susu replied, "I heard you. I'm awake. Tell President Xiao to wait a little longer. I'll be downstairs to see him in a bit."
"Okay, eat something after you get up. Can I bring in the soup that Aunt Chen stewed?" Xiao Mei asked again.
"Yes." Susu rolled over and got out of bed with some difficulty.
Xiao Mei pushed the door open, put down the soup bowl, and quickly went to support her, saying, "Young Madam, you're about to give birth. Why don't you hand over all those important matters to Young Master Anjing and just focus on your pregnancy? Why are you so worried?"
"I don't want to be idle. When I'm idle, I'll..." Susu didn't finish. She was afraid that if she was idle, she would feel sad. Having something to do would distract her, and her heart wouldn't hurt so much.
Xiao Mei helped her to the bathroom and said, "I understand, Young Madam. Your good mood is the most important thing."
Susu released her hand and said, "I can manage. Hurry and tell Anjing I'm awake. He's been waiting for me all morning. Has something major happened at Aoxiang Group?"
Xiao Mei couldn't answer her and just shook her head. "I don't know. I'll go back to work then."
Susu hummed and looked at her reflection in the mirror. Her face looked a bit haggard, probably due to lack of sleep last night.
After washing up, she drank a few sips of the soup stewed by Aunt Chen and came out of her room, heading to the hall downstairs.
