"Don't you ever think that if I ever regained my memory, she would hate you?"
Xie Jiangsheng was a ruthless man. When he detested someone, he would degrade them to the dirt, treating them like trash that he just wanted to get rid of. He had already lost Shen Yue half a year ago.
That night, he had thrown Shen Yue at the club without hesitation.
This incident hadn't not happened; it was just that Shen Yue had forgotten it due to her amnesia.
Xie Jiangsheng was almost at a loss for what to do. His fingers trembled nervously, his mind a complete blank and in utter chaos. He didn't even notice his lips trembling.
"What, what should I do?"
As if lost, as if panicked, Xie Jiangsheng felt an icy chill spread through his limbs, then crawl up his scalp. His whole body trembled uncontrollably.
He felt like a lost child, abandoned in the rain, unable to find his way home.
Xu Tian hadn't expected Xie Jiangsheng to react so strongly. After hesitating for a moment, she finally spoke, "If you really can't let go, you can go look for Shen Yue yourself."
As for whether Shen Yue would forgive him, whether they could reconcile, all of that was an unknown.
But Xu Tian had a premonition that Shen Yue seemed to be utterly disappointed in Xie Jiangsheng. It was probably all... too late.
By nightfall, Xie Jiangsheng sat alone in the room for a very long time. The empty room was devoid of any light, deathly silent.
Thick smoke lingered for a long time. Xie Jiangsheng smoked all night. The embers were still quietly burning, wisps of pale blue smoke slowly rising.
It seemed as if a quiet, gentle breeze brushed past his eyebrows.
"Mr. Xie."
"Smoking is bad for your health."
The woman's voice was soft and gentle, tinged with a hint of helplessness and worry.
Xie Jiangsheng's expression stiffened, and he let out a cold laugh, "You don't want me anymore, do you? Why are you still bothering with me?"
"What does my health have to do with you?"
The woman seemed a little dejected. She gently stroked his messy hair, "Mr. Xie..."
"Don't call me that. If you truly worry about me, then come back to me. I can give you another chance."
Xie Jiangsheng's voice was cold and distant.
She sighed.
"No, I can't."
Xie Jiangsheng was furious, his brows dark and violent.
"Then get out."
The woman seemed to really leave. Her voice no longer reached his ears, and silence returned.
Xie Jiangsheng extinguished the cigarette butt with his hand, facing the empty room.
"Shen Yue."
No one replied.
"I want to eat beef noodles."
It was only when the sky began to lighten a little that Xie Jiangsheng finally managed to fall asleep. He had an important meeting the next morning, and his biological clock prompted him to wake up.
When he woke, his eyelids felt sore. Xie Jiangsheng didn't notice the damp traces still on his pillow.
---
Every day after work, Shen Yue would secretly visit the residential complex. She didn't dare to linger for too long, only buying some fruit to leave at the entrance before quietly departing.
She didn't know how to face Shen Yan, nor did she want to face the obvious disgust of her relatives.
Lu Jin was troublesome and liked to be physical.
Even when Shen Yue got off work, Lu Jin would insist on monopolizing her.
As Shen Yue stepped out of the cake shop, a car pulled up in front of her, as if timed perfectly.
Shen Yue didn't want to get into the car, but thinking of Luo Kai, she had no choice.
For the past few days, Shen Yue hadn't been able to contact Luo Kai. After all, Luo Kai had virtually no friends, and Shen Yue didn't even know where he lived. She called every day, but no one answered.
All of this was orchestrated by Lu Jin.
Lu Jin seemed to be in a good mood. While driving, he asked, "What do you want to eat tonight?"
Shen Yue turned her head to look out the window and said faintly, "Whatever."
Lu Jin still couldn't get used to such a cold Shen Yue. He didn't show any anger; in fact, he even smiled. His face was smiling, but what he said was not something to smile about.
"Alright, then let's not eat. Let's go straight to the hotel."
After saying that, he steered the wheel, as if about to make a U-turn.
Shen Yue finally looked at him properly for the first time since getting in the car. Her eyes held no warmth. After a moment of silence, she said, "I want to eat noodles."
Lu Jin's mood improved slightly, and he drove to a famous noodle restaurant.
Shen Yue ate quietly, her eyes lowered as she chewed carefully. Her long, thick eyelashes cast shadows on her pale cheeks.
Lu Jin ate quickly, but his movements were not crude at all; rather, they exuded a certain elegance. He finished soon after, wiped his mouth, and his gaze fell upon Shen Yue.
When Shen Yue looked down, she always gave off an illusion of gentleness, and the atmosphere seemed particularly harmonious and peaceful.
A phone ring broke this beautiful illusion.
It was Shen Yue's phone ringing.
Lu Jin saw the caller ID. His previously gentle expression instantly turned cold, his deep black eyes like a terrifying abyss, unfathomable.
Mr. Xie—
Shen Yue just glanced at it and directly hung up, continuing to eat her noodles.
Lu Jin's expression didn't improve; instead, it grew increasingly grim. Veins bulged on his neck, and his dark gaze overflowed with consuming rage.
He smiled, "Why didn't you answer?"
Shen Yue remained silent.
Her silence seemed to enrage Lu Jin. He grabbed her wrist with iron pincers, stopping her silent act of eating noodles.
"Didn't I tell you to cut ties with Xie Jiangsheng cleanly?"
Actually, Lu Jin rarely got angry over such matters. How to put it, in the end, she was just a plaything. There was no need to get that angry, and moreover, if she wasn't obedient, he could just replace her.
But Shen Yue was different!
A raging fire burned within him. He couldn't stand it now, perhaps out of jealousy, or annoyance, or simply insecurity.
His heart felt as if it were tightly wound with a wire, bringing a cold, suffocating sensation.
Shen Yue's eyelashes trembled slightly. Her pale face was flawless, like white jade. Her voice was soft and devoid of emotion.
"Does it have anything to do with you?"
She was speaking the truth.
It truly had nothing to do with Lu Jin.
But Lu Jin didn't seem to think so.
As if his sore spot had been suddenly poked, his pupils constricted, and his face turned ashen.
"Shen Yue, I am your boyfriend. Don't I have the right to ask?"
This boyfriend was something Lu Jin only considered himself to be; Shen Yue had never acknowledged it.
Lu Jin seemed to read Shen Yue's unspoken thoughts from her pale face.
Without a word, he pulled Shen Yue up from her seat, almost dragging her.
Outside the noodle shop, they walked to a sparsely populated corner. Before Shen Yue could react, her shoulders were seized, and she was abruptly pulled aside and pressed against the wall.
