The blue rabbit’s vocal cords were truly magical. Ever since Zhang Qiling encountered it, he had heard it emit a series of strange sounds like “squeak squeak squeak,” “chirp chirp chirp,” and “ao ao ao.”
…But this was the first time it had made a “ying ying ying” sound.
To be honest, Zhang Qiling was starting to suspect that this rabbit might one day be able to speak human language.
The blue rabbit finally understood the difficulty of clinging to a thigh. After its whimpering cries yielded no results, it could only hold back the tears it had managed to gather. With a wronged expression, it indicated that it had a better method to lure out its natural predator.
It was perfectly normal for strange creatures to be familiar with each other. Zhang Qiling, showing trust, signaled for the blue rabbit to go and display its talents freely.
The blue rabbit shook its fur, let out a loud “Ao,” and with the air of someone facing certain death, hopped a few steps towards the cave entrance—
Then it lifted its tail and proceeded to relieve itself.
Zhang Qiling, watching from a distance: …?
Truthfully, this wasn't a bad method. After all, this way the blue rabbit’s scent would travel further, making it easier to attract the attention of its natural enemies…
But this did not prevent Zhang Qiling from feeling that the blue rabbit’s cuteness had been halved in that instant. When the blue rabbit hopped back over for a reward, he quietly dodged the two paws that tried to cling to his leg.
Blue rabbit: ???
Ignoring the blue rabbit’s feigned whimpering, Zhang Qiling drew his dagger, concentrated slightly, and quietly listened to every sound around him.
The rustling of leaves in the wind outside, the soft tapping of roots against the earthen wall, even the faint hum of insect wings – all were meticulously distinguished at that moment.
Soon, another abrupt sound intruded upon this dark symphony—
It was the sound of deep earth cracking, rapid and dense, as if something was shuttling swiftly through the earthen tunnel.
The blue rabbit’s noisy tantrum abruptly ceased. Zhang Qiling felt it sneakily rub against his leg again.
And in the very next second, Zhang Qiling’s eyes sharpened, and his dagger was already slashed horizontally!
With a resounding “clang,” the dagger instantly collided with a massive dark silhouette!
A slight dampness quickly licked Zhang Qiling’s hand, accompanied by a “hissing” sound. Two venomous creatures twisted and flew towards him, their glistening bodies illuminating a deep blue vertical pupil for a fleeting moment!
The yellow glow of the insect and the deep blue of the snake’s eye reflected each other, the intermingling of colors like a hazy dream.
But the two sharp fangs on the dagger’s edge proved that this was far from beautiful.
Zhang Qiling glanced down as the light fell, observing two thin streams of venom slowly dripping from the fangs, meandering like rivulets across the dagger’s surface, emitting a corrosive sizzling sound.
…This dagger wouldn’t last long.
A gust of wind flashed as the venomous snake rapidly swung its head. Zhang Qiling stepped back to dodge, catching a glimpse of the splashing venom falling like raindrops.
The blue rabbit, perched on Zhang Qiling’s leg, had its fur brushed by a drop of venom. An instant burning sensation penetrated its skin, causing it to cry out.
And it was this cry that decisively drew the venomous snake’s full attention. It even temporarily abandoned its hostility towards Zhang Qiling, turning mid-air and charging directly at him, its gaping maw ready to swallow the blue rabbit whole.
It was unclear what exquisite delicacy the blue rabbit was, but the snake’s charge was incredibly fierce. Zhang Qiling decisively spun his dagger to try and block, only to hear a crisp snap. The already scarred dagger finally made its heroic sacrifice, breaking into several pieces in the middle.
And at the very moment the dagger broke—
The snake, which had seemed to be charging directly at the rabbit, suddenly twisted and, with even greater speed, lunged towards Zhang Qiling!
The snake, with its cunning nature, had employed a feint.
This did surprise Zhang Qiling slightly. Just as he was raising his right hand, a piercing shriek suddenly erupted in his ear!
This shriek, at first listen, was akin to a tiger’s roar. Under the insect’s glow, a mass of blue fur shot up like a cannonball, colliding with the raised jaw of the venomous snake!
The blue rabbit had actually defied its timid nature and charged out. Its sturdy bone structure greatly enhanced the impact of this collision.
Zhang Qiling only heard the sound of bone snapping, followed by the snake’s howl, presumably from its lower jaw being broken by the rabbit’s headbutt.
He felt a shift in his opinion of the blue rabbit. But as he turned to look, he felt a warmth on his leg again—
The blue rabbit, having just performed a world-shattering feat, now seemed to recall the terrifying smoothness of its natural enemy’s scales and tremblingly climbed back up.
His calf no longer provided enough security. Using all four paws, it scrambled up a few times and quickly settled around Zhang Qiling’s waist.
Where the grappling hook had once been, the buckle left behind by the now-useless hook had become the blue rabbit’s warmest home.
Zhang Qiling: ?
The venomous snake had fallen to the ground. Its shattered jaw seemed to be a devastating blow.
But Zhang Qiling’s raised right hand did not lower.
The blue rabbit, having just settled down, saw something whiz past its eyes, then something else whiz out, and then nothing more.
Another snake’s head shot out rapidly from a nearby earthen hole. But the instant it opened its mouth, it was pierced through its vital spot by the Fa Qiu Finger.
Zhang Qiling seized the snake’s body, and the Qilin blood in his palm touched the snake’s head. The venomous snake instantly lost all ability to resist.
The two earthen holes from which the snake heads had emerged were not far apart. After both heads crashed to the ground, the connecting section of the holes collapsed under the immense force.
It turned out that from the depths of the holes, these two snake heads were attached to the same body!
This was a two-headed snake!
The snake’s body hidden in the hole was several times thicker than its heads, resembling a massive pillar.
With a slight effort from Zhang Qiling, the snake’s body slowly slid down, crashing heavily onto the ground with a clang, like a collapsing building, kicking up a lot of dust.
The blue rabbit stared blankly at the dead snake with its unseeing eyes, then looked up at Zhang Qiling’s hand, falling into a rabbit-life contemplation.
Clearly, it now realized that perhaps its courageous act of heroism was unnecessary. Little Zhang’s combat prowess could handle any defiant strange creature.
It hopped off Zhang Qiling’s body and began circling the snake carcass with its short legs.
As it hopped, its fur flew up and down like dandelion seeds, looking quite lively.
Then, when Zhang Qiling tried and failed to salvage his dagger and stood up again, the blue rabbit had already eaten one of the snake heads.
Zhang Qiling: ???
