Capítulo 843: Chapter 843: Kitten Wenwen and Puppy Taihei
The other side of the warehouse.
Samuel Chalmers locked eyes with the young boy in the cage for a second, suddenly sensing an approaching presence. In a flash, he disappeared from sight.
The small boy watched the person vanish, his pupils trembling slightly. The next second, sounds of a scuffle came from outside the warehouse. Soon, two figures opened the warehouse’s door and walked inside.
Callum Yuan’s gaze swept around the warehouse, seemingly noticing an unusual aura lingering.
Coming back to his senses, he looked again at the boy confined in the cage, both of their expressions mildly changing.
“A bunch of perverts!”
She shouldn’t have held back in the fight!
Hannah Hearne, for once, displayed a rare hint of annoyance.
The small boy in the cage was clearly showing signs of transformation.
This was an imp sprite captured by humans outside.
They had initially thought this imp sprite was one of the culprits responsible for abducting a kitten.
Only to find upon arriving here that this imp sprite was also one of the abducted.
But why were the two imp sprites taken to different places?
“Perhaps because he transformed.”
Though Callum Yuan appeared youthful, his demon age and appearance didn’t quite match. Hence, he understood many things.
“Some humans enjoy collecting and studying non-human entities.”
Driven by curiosity or a twisted love for surreal body art, when people go missing in certain countries, they may only be found later, with their torsos placed in vases.
Callum Yuan had heard about such things but hadn’t expected humans would dare target demons.
Hannah Hearne clearly thought of something, her face darkened as she approached, demonic power swirling in her palm, transforming into a claw and violently tearing the lock apart.
The lock hanging on the cage was instantly ripped apart. She entered, undoing all the chains restraining the small dog demon.
“Can you walk on your own?”
The small dog demon looked at Hannah Hearne yet showed no intention of leaving. Instead, he sat down, seemingly determined not to go.
His reaction left Hannah Hearne and Callum Yuan momentarily stunned.
“Why are you sitting? Go.”
Thinking he misunderstood them as bad people, Hannah Hearne explained again, “We’re sent by the Mystic Regulation Office. The kitten’s mother you were kidnapped with has reported the case to us.”
Upon hearing the words ‘kitten,’ the dog demon’s ears twitched slightly, but he spoke, his voice hoarse,
“I won’t go.”
“You kid… what’s the matter?!”
Hands on her hips, Hannah Hearne stood there while Callum Yuan quietly watched for two seconds before speaking, “We heard those people outside called a buyer over. If you don’t leave, the person who bought you will arrive soon.”
Thinking these words might frighten the dog demon, but unexpectedly, the boy’s body shivered, yet he remained resolutely seated.
Hannah Hearne had never encountered such a stubborn imp sprite. With concerns for Scarlett Jennings’s situation, she quickly lost patience, turned, and stepped out of the cage, gesturing,
“Callum, knock him out and carry him away.”
They weren’t human police. There wasn’t a rule against using force on imp sprites.
To the Demon Clan, if an imp sprite doesn’t understand, just beat them directly.
Anyhow, imp sprites are tough.
Though Callum Yuan disliked obeying her every command, he agreed with her plan and stepped forward to take Hannah’s place, intending to enter the cage.
Upon hearing they wanted to forcibly take him away, despite being covered in wounds, the small dog demon quickly assumed a defensive stance, letting out a low, threatening growl akin to a little beast from his throat.
Callum Yuan didn’t regard such a threat from a small imp sprite seriously. Observing both sides poised for action, suddenly, Hannah Hearne’s phone rang.
The caller was Scarlett Jennings.
“The kitten has been found. Have you located the other imp sprite?”
While she spoke, continuous meowing echoed from the other end of the line.
Although the call wasn’t on loudspeaker, given demon hearing is usually sharp, the initially defiant small dog demon’s ear twitched, his attention instantly drawn to Hannah Hearne’s phone.
“Barrett Clement.”
He dryly uttered a name.
Hannah Hearne didn’t quite catch it, still complaining to Scarlett Jennings, “Found it, but it’s possibly been abused to foolishness. It utterly refuses to leave.”
On the other end, Scarlett Jennings pressed a little orange kitten trying to nuzzle her phone. Around her feet, a bunch of cats and dogs milled about in a chaotic yet oddly ordered scene.
The burly men initially intending to deal with her were now huddled together, trembling in a corner.
Shellback hovered nearby, while a black mist enveloped those men’s heads, clearly blocking their senses, leaving them trapped in terror.
Listening to Hannah Hearne’s words, while observing Barrett Clement among the cats and dogs, understanding dawned, so she switched the call mode to video,
“Let that imp sprite video-call me.”
Hannah Hearne heard the chaotic environment on Scarlett Jennings’s side, although perplexed, she enabled the video call, turning the screen toward the small dog demon in the cage.
Quickly, Barrett Clement saw his companion’s situation on the other end of the video, instantly emitting a somewhat piercing cat cry.
Perhaps due to overwhelming emotion, the little orange kitten perched on Scarlett Jennings’s shoulder suddenly transformed into a roughly four-year-old toddler.
Scarlett Jennings’s shoulder was suddenly weighed down. She promptly extended a hand to support him, the toddler quickly using all four limbs to cling to her, simultaneously yelling toward the phone’s screen,
“Too dark! Too dark! I’m here! Boohoo, too dark, how did you get beaten like this?”
The boy called Too Dark saw Barrett Clement on the phone, his eyes reddened slightly but soon hardened his face, speaking irritably,
“Stop crying, so noisy.”
“Boohoo…”
Just as the small boy was about to speak again, the screen suddenly shifted, Scarlett Jennings panning the view over to the cats and dogs at her feet and a short distance away. Simultaneously, her voice came over from the other side of the screen,
“Barrett Clement and the cats and dogs in this van have been rescued. I’ve notified someone to come over; they’ll transfer them to reputable adoption agencies for treatment. You can safely leave with my colleagues.”
After rescue, Barrett Clement explained to her they saw people stealing cats and dogs and pursued them, intending to rescue those animals; however, they didn’t anticipate so many villains.
Though Too Dark was fierce in combat, facing so many proved impossible. With his skills, he could have escaped alone, but those people threatened him using Barrett Clement and a van full of cats and dogs.
They said should he dare leave, they’d kill the lot of them including Barrett Clement.
Only then did Too Dark obediently allow himself to be caught.
Following Scarlett Jennings’s words, Hannah Hearne and Callum Yuan finally realized, looking toward the small dog demon,
“You didn’t want to leave, worried that if you did, those people might kill the cats and dogs?”
The small dog demon Too Dark kept his face stern, although silent, he had already tacitly agreed.
Hannah Hearne was instantly incensed, those humans dared use such threats on the simple young demons!
She would go beat them again!
Just as Hannah Hearne went to further vent her wrath, Callum Yuan was about to remind her, when suddenly he sensed something odd.
Turning his head, he saw the originally calmed small dog demon suddenly let out another low growl, akin to a beast, with demon energy subtly shifting around him.
Raising his eyes again, the boy’s pupils blazed bright red, staring at him with a feral intensity.
Callum Yuan had a gut feeling; before he could react to the sudden transformation, the small dog demon abruptly went berserk, lunging fiercely at him…
