Gentle Sleep Instructor
Chapter 1118 Killing the Heart
The village was quiet after nightfall, the villagers who had been around during the day seeming to have vanished.
Tonight was the most critical night, and no one dared to slack off.
Yu Chengmu and A Biao’s stomachs rumbled with hunger. Since returning last night, they hadn’t opened the door, and aside from some water, they hadn’t eaten a single grain of rice.
Hunger was a small matter compared to losing their lives, and Yu Chengmu knew what was more important.
Once tonight was over, he, Yu Chengmu, would be the biggest winner!
Yu Chengmu seemed calm, but in his heart, he was more eager than anyone for tonight to end quickly.
Until… he heard a strange sound.
The sound came from the direction of the Du River, and he heard it very clearly!
It was… a bizarre tune, a cheerful melody mixed with mournful resentment, and in that resentment was a hint of anger. Yu Chengmu felt like he recognized it, but couldn't quite place its origin.
A Biao gritted his teeth. It sounded to him like the soundtrack from some classic zombie movie, but only a little. Perhaps it was the situation, but it sounded even more eerie than the original.
"It's coming!" A Biao suddenly sat up.
A singsong voice came from outside, sounding like a woman at first, but after listening for a while, it seemed like a man squeezing the words out of his throat.
"Don't panic!" Yu Chengmu immediately walked to the door, his brow furrowed slightly. "Be careful, it could be a trick."
"A trick?" A Biao was taken aback, then realized what Yu Chengmu meant and whispered, "You mean… they dare to impersonate Dahe Niangniang (River Goddess)?"
"Heh." Yu Chengmu’s lips curled into a sneer, a mocking light in his eyes. "They're already trapped. It's not impossible for them to struggle."
"If they insist on being clever, then… we'll make sure they don't return!"
With Yu Chengmu's words, A Biao felt more confident. In his view, Yu Chengmu was undoubtedly the one with the most authority in this mission. His advantages were too great, and now with that letter, it would be harder than ascending to heaven for Jiang Cheng and the others to turn the tables.
"Thump."
"Thump."
A bouncing sound came from outside. A Biao and Yu Chengmu immediately rushed to the door and looked out through the crack. In the darkness, a large red figure bounced toward them.
Each bounce was over two meters high.
No human could possibly do that!
Immediately, Yu Chengmu and A Biao were largely convinced. Especially the icy chill that emanated from the figure, like the water from the bottom of the Du River being splashed on them.
The bride outside was definitely not Jiang Cheng and his two companions in disguise. That suspicion could be ruled out, but… Yu Chengmu’s mind flashed back to another person.
"A Biao," Yu Chengmu said in a low voice, "do you remember that guy in the black trench coat?"
Hearing this, A Biao couldn't help but tremble. How could he forget? His right cheek was still swollen from the slap that had knocked him unconscious.
"I don't understand your cult's affairs, but could the bride outside be impersonated by that man in black?" Yu Chengmu proposed a bold idea.
Unexpectedly, A Biao immediately rejected it. "Impossible." A Biao shook his head. "Judging by that guy's strength, he's definitely a ghoul. I know about those things. They are incomprehensible existences and absolutely cannot be controlled by anyone!"
"Are you sure?" Yu Chengmu wasn’t a disciple and didn't know much about these things.
A Biao smiled confidently. "Master Yu, don't you trust me? Don't forget, we're in this together. If I harm you, do you think I'll get away with it?"
Yu Chengmu thought that made sense.
Before he finished speaking, Dahe Niangniang had already hopped to their door.
Standing straight and still.
Even without any movement, Yu Chengmu and A Biao, hiding behind the door, were terrified.
Yu Chengmu still felt uneasy, so he continued to observe through the crack in the door, making a final confirmation.
There was absolutely nothing wrong with the wedding dress. It was made with old craftsmanship, the stitching was exquisite, and it definitely couldn't be rushed out in a day. And the shoes on her feet, the craftsmanship was so exquisite that even Yu Chengmu had rarely seen anything like it.
Coupled with the baleful aura emanating from Dahe Niangniang, Yu Chengmu felt reassured.
Tonight was going to be a success.
"Opening the door!" Yu Chengmu stood up with a smile, pinched his throat, and made a sound like an ancient eunuch announcing the arrival of an important guest, "Welcome, Dahe Niangniang!"
In fact, he didn't have to do this, but he was just feeling smug. This shout was for those little bastards hiding next door. In Yu Chengmu's imagination, Jiang Cheng and the others were huddled behind the door, trembling in fear.
Heh, going against him, Yu Chengmu, was truly courting death!
What he wanted was… to kill them psychologically!
After adjusting his clothes, Yu Chengmu opened the door.
"Greetings, Dahe Niangniang, I am Yu Chengmu." Yu Chengmu didn't dare to delay. He quickly took the letter from his arms and respectfully handed it to Dahe Niangniang. "I worked so hard to find this for you. You don't know, those people next door wanted to destroy this letter. It's truly hateful and their crime deserves death!"
In Yu Chengmu's flattering gaze, Dahe Niangniang finally spoke, "Yu~ Cheng~ Mu~, you have done well~, is there something you desire~?"
Dahe Niangniang's tone sounded very strange, as if she was holding back a laugh, but in the ears of the spellbound Yu Chengmu and A Biao, it was normal for Dahe Niangniang to speak strangely.
Before Yu Chengmu could speak, Dahe Niangniang raised her hand and suddenly pointed at A Biao, "Do you need~ me to remove this stumbling block~ for you?"
A Biao, who had just relaxed, was instantly stunned.
Yu Chengmu’s eyelids twitched violently, overjoyed. Dahe Niangniang was indeed real. She had seen through all his little thoughts. Jiang Cheng and the others were doomed without the letter. Now was the perfect time to get rid of A Biao, this stumbling block!
"I beg Dahe Niangniang to take action!" Yu Chengmu's face flushed red as he shouted.
A Biao quickly retreated, distancing himself from Yu Chengmu and Dahe Niangniang. "Yu Chengmu, you son of a bitch!" A Biao roared in fury. He never expected that Yu Chengmu, this old dog, would have such an idea.
But A Biao waited for a long time, and Dahe Niangniang didn't make a move.
Yu Chengmu was also dumbfounded, staring blankly at Dahe Niangniang, who had put away the letter and returned to her original motionless state. He blinked. "Niangniang, why aren't you… why aren't you doing anything?"
"Me~ do~ what~?"
Yu Chengmu panicked. "Didn't you say you were going to kill him for me?"
"Oh, I~ was~ just~ asking~"
After Dahe Niangniang finished speaking, she turned around and hopped away again. In Yu Chengmu's astonished gaze, Dahe Niangniang hopped to the door of Jiang Cheng's room, and the door creaked open.
Wu lifted the hijab from her head and handed the letter to the smiling Jiang Cheng.
"Done!"
