Chapter 1562 Holding-Vow Temple

Jiangcheng returned the greeting with his palms together and smiled, "Thank you, little master. May I ask your name?"

The little monk became even more humble. "I dare not. Huiqing."

Jiangcheng nodded. "So it's Master Huiqing."

It had to be said that the herbs in this temple were truly effective. In just a short while, Jiangcheng's injuries had improved significantly. When he first woke up, he had checked himself and, fortunately, they were all superficial wounds.

With the help of the little master Huiqing, Jiangcheng and Fatty tidied themselves up simply, at least looking less disheveled.

During this process, Fatty discovered something interesting. This little master Huiqing seemed very shy. As long as he looked at him a few more times, Huiqing's face would turn red, and his eyes would shift away, not daring to meet his gaze.

Wiping his face clean with a damp cloth, Jiangcheng asked very naturally, "Master Huiqing, may I ask the name of your esteemed temple?"

Huiqing's expression became formal, and he put his palms together in front of Jiangcheng, solemnly saying, "Chijie Temple."

Hearing this, a strange look flashed in Jiangcheng's eyes, but it disappeared in the next second, replaced by a smile as he nodded in return. "Chijie Temple, a truly good name for your esteemed temple. I am enlightened."

"I dare not, benefactor. You flatter us."

Fatty couldn't stand these two exchanging insincere compliments. His mind was filled with the zhai tang (dining hall) that Huiqing had mentioned, because the doctor said that's where they ate, and he was starving.

Moreover, Fatty had high expectations for the temple's vegetarian meal, after all, looking at how radiant Huiqing was, the food couldn't be bad.

As Fatty thought about this, he couldn't help but look at the little master Huiqing a few more times, which made the other person nervous. Huiqing hastily bowed to the two of them and turned to leave, but not before telling them the location of the zhai tang.

Watching Huiqing's hurried departure, Fatty was a little surprised. "Seriously, are all the monks here so shy?"

Jiangcheng leaned against the wall and slowly stood up. "No, it's probably because your expression was too perverted." Jiangcheng said blandly.

Fatty wasn't in the mood to argue with Jiangcheng, after all, Yao Shunyu and the others were still missing. "By the way, why does the name Chijie Temple sound so awkward? The temples I know are Chongguang Temple, Ruiyan Temple, Chongfu Temple, etc. Chijie… is there any special meaning to these two words?" Fatty looked at Jiangcheng.

At this moment, Jiangcheng had stood up, walked to the wooden door, and looked outside. The sky was gloomy, and the distance was deep black, as if it would rain heavily soon.

Not far outside the door were bluestone steps, full of simple charm. The scale of the entire temple was larger than Jiangcheng had thought, and it looked very old.

Withdrawing his gaze, Jiangcheng nodded. "Chijie refers to the five precepts that Buddhist disciples need to uphold, simply put, not killing, not stealing, not committing sexual misconduct, not lying, and not drinking alcohol."

"These five precepts are the foundation of all precepts. The *Mahaprajnaparamita Shastra* says: There are five kinds of precepts, starting from not killing, and ending with not drinking alcohol. If you receive one precept, it is called one part, if you receive two or three precepts, it is called a small part, if you receive four precepts, it is called a large part, and five precepts is called a full part. In this part, you can always receive whatever part you want."

Hearing Jiangcheng say this, Fatty scratched his head a little embarrassedly. "Doctor, it's useless for you to tell me this, I can only understand a little bit. I'm not Yao Shunyu or Li Bai, but it sounds like the name of this Chijie Temple is quite impressive, with a high artistic conception."

This time, Jiangcheng shook his head, and his tone became serious. "You don't understand, the strangeness of this temple lies in its name. Upholding the precepts is something that every Buddhist disciple should abide by, so why use it as the name of the temple? Moreover, looking at this arrangement, it is definitely not the uninhibited Tibetan Buddhism."

Fatty seemed to understand a little, but not completely. "Are you saying… there's something wrong with this temple?"

Jiangcheng reached out and slapped the back of Fatty's head, almost laughing at Fatty. "If there was nothing wrong, would we be here? Do you think this is a vacation?"

Hearing this, Fatty quickly explained, "No, you misunderstood me, I mean..."

"Dong."

"Dong."

...

A series of dull knocks sounded, and Jiangcheng and Fatty looked in the direction of the sound. In the huge courtyard, groups of two or three monks were constantly walking towards that place.

Jiangcheng also stepped out of the door. "Let's go, it's time for dinner."

Sure enough, following the doctor, they soon arrived at the zhai tang, which was the place to eat. This zhai tang looked like a very old-fashioned building, and it was already a bit dilapidated, and some places were dark, as if they had been burned by fire before.

What Fatty was most interested in was a large wooden fish hanging outside the zhai tang, and next to it was a hammer for striking the wooden fish. It seemed that the dull sound just now came from this.

"Bang Xiang Guotang." Jiangcheng climbed the steps and explained, "Striking the wooden fish is a signal for monks in some temples to enter the hall for meals. It can also show the scale and rules of the temple to the outside world."

Hearing this, Fatty became interested. He didn't know that the doctor had research on these things before. It seemed that knowing more skills was never a burden. "How do you explain that?" All Fatty saw was a bare wooden fish.

"Look carefully, there's a lot to say about the placement of the fish head and tail of this wooden fish. If the fish head is facing outwards, it means that this is a large temple that can receive monks from all over the world. If the fish head is facing inwards, it means that this is a small family temple that is unable to receive traveling monks."

Fatty looked according to what Jiangcheng said, only to see that this wooden fish was not as he said, but horizontal. "That's not right, this one is horizontal."

"This is the last type, the head and tail are horizontal, indicating that this is half a family temple and half a jungle temple, and can partially receive traveling monks."

After entering the zhai tang, Fatty looked left and right. Because he wasn't familiar with these monks, he found an empty spot and pulled Jiangcheng over there. It was relatively remote.

After entering the zhai tang, Jiangcheng began to search. Fatty had mentioned that the team of "benefactors" who had brought them here was also in the temple.

But strangely, the zhai tang was full of monks, and there were no people dressed differently.

The area of the zhai tang was much larger than expected. Because it had been阴 overcast outside, the zhai tang was relatively dark, and there were two candles on each long table.

Fatty had sharp eyes. He had just sat down when he spotted the little master Huiqing at a glance. Huiqing obviously also found Fatty. Before Fatty could walk over to say hello, he saw Huiqing smile politely, then lowered his head to eat, and didn't move again.

But the other two monks sitting at the same table with Huiqing stood up, walked around, and then walked towards them with bowls of rice in their hands.

"Benefactor, we have neglected you. Please have some vegetarian food." A dark-skinned, strong-looking middle-aged monk placed the bowls of porridge in front of them.

But what Fatty couldn't understand was that there were clearly only two of them, but the other party brought four bowls, and the other two bowls of porridge were placed opposite them.
