Gentle Sleep Instructor
Chapter 806 Selfish Motives
The cowboy took back his gaze, looked at Wu’s former position, and said in a low voice, “The master’s order is to trap him, not to let him escape, and not to let him get hurt.” He narrowed his eyes. “If we really wanted to kill him, do you think he could have lasted this long against the three of us?”
“True.” The boy touched his chin in a grown-up manner.
Although his words were harsh, as Number 13, he was clear about the strength of these three.
Numbers 1, 2, and 3 of Scarlet were all gathered. If the three of them joined forces to kill someone, according to his own calculations, the number of people who could survive could be counted on one hand.
Perhaps there would be a chance in the future, but for now, the shadow in front of him was not qualified.
“Surrender, Scarlet has policies.” Number 13 yelled, “We give preferential treatment to prisoners!”
“Creak—”
The old door opened, and Lin Wan'er walked out first, with Jiang Cheng following behind, maintaining what he considered a safe distance.
The fatty followed Jiang Cheng with small steps, his eyes curiously looking around.
“How is it?” Lin Wan'er looked at Wu in the middle of the courtyard. “They should have told you what I wanted to say. Are you satisfied with the price?”
“As long as you give up the door on him, the thing I mentioned will be your compensation.” Lin Wan'er's tone changed. “But I hope you understand that my things are not so easy to take. During this time, you are responsible for his safety.” Lin Wan'er pointed at Jiang Cheng.
After a few seconds, a line of crooked blood characters appeared on the ground: “Give me the thing.”
Lin Wan'er glanced at Number 13 in the corner. Number 13 understood and smiled, taking out a scroll-like object from his arms and throwing it far away to Wu.
Wu took it with one hand, but didn’t open it immediately. After taking a deep look at Jiang Cheng and Lin Wan'er, his figure flashed and disappeared.
At the same time, Jiang Cheng’s shadow reappeared at his feet.
Jiang Cheng didn't think too much about it. He just sensed a complex feeling of unwillingness and helplessness in the last look Wu gave him.
“What did you do to him?” Jiang Cheng asked.
Lin Wan'er looked up at the sky and stretched out her hand. She didn't know when, but fine raindrops began to fall, and one landed right in Lin Wan'er's palm.
“Go back as soon as possible, I won’t keep you any longer.” Lin Wan'er retracted her palm and looked at Jiang Cheng’s face. “I don’t have much to tell you. Everything I should have taught you, you have already learned, and even better than I thought.”
“Don’t come looking for me during this time. You won’t be able to find me. When the time is right, I will come to you,” Lin Wan'er said finally.
Jiang Cheng turned and left. When the fatty passed by Lin Wan'er, he noticed that Lin Wan'er was looking at him. The doctor left without saying hello. He felt he should say something, scratching his head, and finally squeezed out a few words: “Boss Lin, take care of yourself!”
“You too,” Lin Wan'er nodded.
The fatty was about to chase after the doctor when he suddenly heard, “Take care of Xiao Cheng.”
It was Lin Wan'er’s voice!
But strangely, when the fatty turned his head, he found that Lin Wan'er had already turned around and walked back into the room.
“What’s going on?” The fatty blinked. “Was I hallucinating?” He walked towards Jiang Cheng, thinking it must have been a hallucination. The doctor didn’t need him to take care of him, he was the one who had been taking care of him.
“The Night Watchmen are not idiots. Your actions may not be able to hide from them. Don’t think the plan is foolproof and lose the necessary vigilance.” Jiang Cheng, who had already walked to the gate of the courtyard, turned around and said to the room.
…
Under the cover of the night, Jiang Cheng didn't take the same path he came from. Instead, he took another route and spent twice the time to wind his way back to the studio.
It was dark again, and the stone road was slippery after the rain. Even though the fatty was quite agile, he still took a hard fall.
By the time they returned to the studio, it was already the second half of the night. The fatty, who had changed into clean clothes, walked to the sofa on the second floor and found that the doctor hadn't closed his bedroom door.
He leaned at the door. Jiang Cheng was sitting alone on the mattress, his head down, not knowing what he was thinking.
“Doctor.” The fatty knocked on the door.
Because the doctor didn’t like people entering his bedroom, the fatty had to stand outside the door and call him without the doctor’s permission.
“Doctor.” Seeing that Jiang Cheng didn’t respond, the fatty called out again.
This time there was a response, but when Jiang Cheng slowly raised his head, the fatty’s complexion, which had just eased, changed drastically, and he immediately walked into the bedroom. “Doctor, what’s wrong? What…”
On the face that was raised, Jiang Cheng’s eyes were red, and there were tear stains on his cheeks.
The fatty didn’t dwell on the fact that the doctor would actually cry. He just felt the man's sadness in that instant.
“I can’t see through her anymore. She might be lying to me. I don’t know if I should believe her. She’s always been lying to me…” Jiang Cheng’s hands were trembling.
Everyone thought Jiang Cheng was indestructible. He was strong, resourceful, and had a helper like Wu. He was the core of the Abyss Plan!
But the fatty never thought so. He just felt that the doctor had really had a hard time along the way. It was one thing to struggle for survival in a nightmare, but he also had to bear the hopes of so many people.
He couldn’t help much and was always a burden to the doctor. Huai Yi was a little better, but if it weren’t for the doctor, his head would have been grabbed by a ghost and used as a ball.
The fatty reached out and grabbed Jiang Cheng’s hand. His first feeling was that it was cold, icy cold, as if it had just been taken out of an ice cellar.
When the doctor’s hand stopped shaking, the fatty said, “Doctor, I believe Boss Lin didn’t lie to you.”
Jiang Cheng looked at him sharply.
“She didn’t tell you the truth before, it shouldn’t be entirely a matter of the plan, but also to protect you.” The fatty paused and continued, “Didn’t you teach me before, to look at problems from a rational perspective, but not to look at people from a rational perspective.” His tone softened, “People are emotional animals, more or less, they all have selfish motives.”
“I feel…” The fatty looked at Jiang Cheng and nodded with a very affirmative tone, “Doctor, you are Boss Lin’s selfish motive.”
“Think about it, if she wanted to lie to you, would she have gone to so much trouble today?” The fatty patted Jiang Cheng’s shoulder. “So, Doctor, don’t worry about it, relax, listen to me, didn’t Boss Lin say there will be a chance to meet in the future? I think it will be soon. Then you can ask her the questions you can’t figure out, and she will definitely tell you!”
The fatty said these words completely out of instinct. At first, he was worried that the doctor wouldn’t believe him, but as he spoke more and more smoothly, the doctor’s dim eyes actually lit up little by little. “You’re right.” Jiang Cheng rubbed his face. “I’ll ask those questions I can’t figure out next time.”
The fatty’s mood also improved, and he grinned and said, “That’s right!”
