Chapter 845 Darkness

"That's right!" Zhou Tong nodded. "Exactly like that!"

Huai Yi merely imagined the scene and felt his limbs go cold. What was even more terrifying was that with so many of them, not a single person noticed a ghost standing behind them.

No footsteps, nothing at all.

While everyone was pondering, a series of footsteps echoed from the corridor. It sounded like quite a few people. A few seconds later, Wu Bin arrived with several police officers.

Xia Qiang went to meet them.

"Captain Xia, are you having some trouble?" Wu Bin asked, and one could discern the unease deep within him from his micro-expressions.

"Some trouble, but it's all been dealt with." Xia Qiang thanked him. "Thank you for your cooperation, Captain Wu, but I'll need some more time."

"No problem, please be sure to let us know if there's anything we can do to help," Wu Bin said sincerely.

After summoning the store owner and understanding the situation, Jiang Cheng and Xia Qiang's group left. They departed in a car arranged by Wu Bin, not returning to the scene of the crime, but heading directly to their office.

The atmosphere was heavy on the way. Wu Bin tried to lighten the tense mood several times, but everyone was lost in their own thoughts, and Xia Qiang only responded politely from time to time.

"Young man, what are you looking at?" Wu Bin turned his gaze to Jiang Cheng. This young man kept looking around, occasionally glancing behind him. His strange behavior brought a sense of unease that the old detective couldn't explain.

Jiang Cheng said faintly, "Nothing."

After a moment of silence, Wu Bin, who was sitting in the passenger seat, lowered his head and asked softly, "Is there something following us, something... something we ordinary people can't see?"

"No," Jiang Cheng said in a comforting tone. "Captain Wu, don't let your imagination run wild."

Wu Bin carefully swallowed. "Oh."

Even after getting out of the car, Wu Bin's expression remained unchanged. He kept looking left and right, as if convinced that something was following them, but he just couldn't see it.

In the end, Xia Qiang stepped forward to dispel his concerns. "Captain Wu, don't be nervous. Just leave these matters to us. And you're very safe now."

Looking into Xia Qiang's eyes, Wu Bin's unease dissipated for the most part. The things the Night Watchmen dealt with were by no means comparable to the most vicious criminals, so he felt a sense of powerlessness from the bottom of his heart, a power he couldn't contend with.

"Captain Xia, please be careful," Wu Bin sincerely reminded.

"Thank you."

Watching the cars drive away, Xia Qiang took a deep breath and looked at Jiang Cheng. "Did you notice anything unusual?"

Jiang Cheng shook his head, his gaze also lingering on the passing traffic. People came and went in a hurry. In a sense, this place was no different from the real world.

"I didn't see anything, and I didn't feel like we were being watched," Jiang Cheng said. "But based on what we just experienced, someone among us should be targeted by a ghost."

The people here were all relatively experienced. In previous missions, they had experienced being targeted by ghosts and knew what that felt like.

Huai Yi interjected, "Do you guys remember, the female host the store owner mentioned? She was targeted after going into room 19."

"I know, and she could clearly feel someone following and watching her on the way home, and even saw the ghost in the subway car," Jiang Cheng paused, his voice low. "The Rain Night Murderer, just like the one described in the painting."

"But none of us have that feeling." Xia Qiang frowned slightly. What was more terrifying than a ghost suddenly appearing was when a ghost should appear, but it disappeared.

......

"Ah-choo!"

Inside the mystery manor, the store owner sneezed violently.

Jiang Cheng and the others had just left, and the store owner was sitting alone in his office. The air conditioning was set to a high temperature, but he was still cold.

He rubbed his shoulders while looking for a piece of clothing to wrap around himself. "Why is it so cold? Do I have a cold?"

A constant stream of cold air came from behind his neck, as if someone was constantly blowing on him, blowing cold air.

But that was impossible. There was no one behind him. He had looked countless times, and he had even tried covering his neck with his hand, but he couldn't feel any cold air blowing on his hand, but his neck was still very cold, as if the coldness was unstoppable and could penetrate his palm.

He put on another thick piece of clothing, shrank into his office chair, and completely replayed the events of the day in his mind, actually feeling like he was dreaming, a very terrible nightmare.

But he knew clearly that this was definitely not a dream. Something terrible had happened in room 19, it was haunted!

He couldn't stay here any longer, he had to leave. Those people didn't seem reliable either. Could human strength really contend with a ghost that could walk out of a painting?

This time he wasn't just talking about it, he had already bought a ticket for tonight. He had already thought it through, he would leave the affairs here to a reliable employee to take care of for him.

He planned to go to a temple for a while first.

He always kept a suitcase in his office, he had been thinking about leaving this place for a long time, but he had only made up his mind today.

Because it wasn't until today that he truly witnessed the terror of those things.

Dragging out his suitcase, the sky outside was already dark. He confirmed that he had all his documents and walked outside, but before he could reach the door, the lights in the office suddenly went out.

The entire office was plunged into darkness.

This sudden scene really gave him a shock. "Power outage?"

The store owner fumbled in the dark for his phone, but to his surprise, the phone's battery turned red, and soon, it automatically shut down.

"How is that possible?" The store owner frowned. "I just charged it, the battery should be at least half full!"

But that wasn't the only thing he couldn't figure out. About 10 seconds later, he realized that there was something very strange about the surroundings.

No, it should be especially strange!

It was too quiet around here.

Quiet as if it were dead. But after he sent Jiang Cheng and his group away, he walked around the store. There were several themes with players playing, and even if all the customers had left, there were still several employees here!

How could there be a power outage and no sound at all around?

With his phone automatically turned off, he lost his only means of illumination. Staying in this room, the surrounding darkness made him feel extremely oppressed.

More accurately, it made him think of many bad things.

He didn't dare to stay in the room alone anymore, and immediately walked towards the position of the door in his memory, shouting the names of several employees as he walked.

It didn't matter which employee answered him, as long as someone came, he had no demands.

But the next second, his hand didn't grab the door, but touched something cold and hard in the darkness.

It was a large metal frame, hanging on the wall.
