Gentle Sleep Instructor
Chapter 261 Fog
"Tsk," Jiang Cheng's contemplative expression immediately changed. He sized Fatty up suspiciously, feeling that this Fatty wasn't as obedient as before, and seemed to always have an ulterior motive.
Fortunately, Jiang Cheng only stared for a few seconds before shifting his gaze, walking to the table where Xia Meng was sitting and settling down. He first sneakily glanced at the cup in front of Xia Meng, then poured himself a glass of water.
This house just felt wrong; it was best to be careful. The safest approach was to follow in the footsteps of those who came before, like seeing someone drink water and being fine before drinking himself.
Xia Meng had just taken a sip, and he and Fatty had both seen it.
Seemingly seeing through Jiang Cheng's thoughts, Xia Meng glanced at him with disdain.
After taking a sip of water to moisten his throat, Jiang Cheng contentedly pulled open his clothes, then deliberately circled around, showing off the clue newspaper in front of Xia Meng.
He narrowed his eyes and said in a dramatic tone, "Let me see what's written inside?"
Before he could open the newspaper, Xia Meng jumped up and pressed the newspaper onto the table. "Are you a moron? You're opening it at this time?"
Although her voice wasn't loud, it was clear that she was deliberately suppressing it; otherwise, she would have been even fiercer.
It was fortunate that the newspaper was of good quality. If it were an ordinary newspaper, it would probably have torn apart from Xia Meng's slap.
Jiang Cheng blinked, looking blank, clearly waiting for her to continue.
"Is there even a specific time to open this thing?" Fatty had the same question. He pursed his lips, having just picked up his teacup, but before he could drink, he shuddered and spilled it all over himself.
The information he had about the Nightmare was all told to him by the doctor. He only knew that the clue newspaper contained mission clues and that they would only be revealed upon entering the Nightmare.
After realizing that Jiang Cheng and Fatty didn't seem to be pretending, Xia Meng sighed, shot one last glare at Jiang Cheng, who had almost ruined things, and slowly sat back down.
Of course, the newspaper was also returned to its owner.
"The later you open the newspaper, the greater the reward," she said concisely.
A few seconds later...
"So, the clues inside aren't fixed. The later you open it, the more...the more clues are revealed, right?" Fatty seemed to have realized something. He swallowed and continued to ask, "Is that what you mean?"
"Yes."
Having received a definite answer, Fatty secretly turned his head to look at the doctor.
Noticing Fatty looking at him, Jiang Cheng immediately stuck out his neck and yelled in a dramatic voice, "I know!"
The rain came quickly and went quickly. Before long, the sound of the pitter-patter rain could no longer be heard. This gave Jiang Cheng and the others the feeling that the rain only wanted to drive them into the wing.
"Look," Fatty said, walking to the window and poking his head out. "The rain stopped."
Xia Meng also walked to the window. After a moment, she finally said, "Strange, although the rain has stopped, the sky hasn't changed. It's still so dark."
Fatty turned his head. "Is it going to rain again later?"
"Doesn't seem like it," Jiang Cheng replied. He walked to the door on the other side, hid behind the door, and looked out through the crack in the middle. After a while, he retracted his body and slowly said, "It's more like night is about to fall."
Although the flow of time in the Nightmare was always a mystery, from the time they woke up until now, it had only been two hours at most. From morning to night in just two hours was still a bit too bizarre.
"Could it be related to the mission in this dungeon?" Fatty asked.
Xia Meng nodded and said, "It's possible."
Although the rain had stopped, a layer of mist had risen over the lake outside the window at some point. The fog came suddenly, and by the time Fatty noticed, it had almost enveloped the entire lake.
"Doctor, it's getting foggy," Fatty said, staring at the doctor, who had found several candles and immediately lit them. The room was gradually enveloped in light.
Xia Meng was responsible for checking the doors and windows to make sure they were closed, trying not to let the fog blow in.
After all, the fog blowing in from the lake was really strange. If they said there was nothing wrong with it, they probably wouldn't believe it themselves.
The group huddled together at a distance from the windows and doors, waiting quietly.
Before long, a vague, ethereal sound entered Fatty's ears. At first, he only heard a little bit, but then, as if he had sensed something, his pupils suddenly contracted.
Just as he turned his head to say something to the doctor beside him, a hand reached out from his shoulder and suddenly covered his mouth. "I hear it too," a barely audible voice came from his ear.
It was the doctor.
The doctor didn't choose to pile the limited candles around him, but instead distributed them, placing two behind the door and the other two behind the window, illuminating the positions of the door and window.
The remaining candle was held in the doctor's hand, and he didn't seem to plan to light it for the time being.
Even though the three of them were together, he couldn't see the faces of the doctor and Xia Meng very clearly, only a rough outline, vague and indistinct, which became a little terrifying after looking at them for a long time.
It was the sound of singing opera, *yi yi ya ya*, coming from the direction of the lake, the singing extremely mournful and eerie.
Fatty quickly searched his mind and frowned. He seemed to have... heard a sound that was a little similar somewhere.
After a while, his face suddenly turned pale. He remembered, it was the time the doctor fell asleep watching a horror movie. The female ghost in that movie had the same singing style.
The name of that female ghost was Chu Renmei.
Remembering the eerie red-clothed female ghost standing in the lake, Fatty immediately became uneasy, and his body trembled slightly. He didn't believe in such coincidences.
Deep in the ancient house, at night, by the lake, the sound of opera, mist... no matter how these things were combined, they gave off the feeling of a horror movie.
He tried his best to block his ears with both hands, but it was useless. The sound seemed to be able to pierce through his palms and directly enter his mind.
Just as Fatty was about to endure it, the sound of the opera gradually faded away. Soon, the outside became completely quiet. Jiang Cheng and the others didn't immediately get up to check, but waited a while longer before gradually standing up.
When it was Fatty's turn, his legs were numb, and he couldn't even stand up. Moreover, he didn't dare to speak because he hadn't heard Jiang Cheng or Xia Meng speak yet.
"Remember what that woman said?" It was the doctor's voice.
After a pause, Xia Meng's emotionless voice rang out: "The master likes quiet. The house has always been deserted, with few rooms for people to live in. Please stay in the wing at night and do not wander around, lest you disturb anyone."
"This should be what's disturbing us," Jiang Cheng said.
