Chapter 230 Reunion

Chapter 12 No Way Out

“Fatty,” Jiang Cheng patted the latter’s shoulder, “Let’s go.”

Fatty widened his eyes, “Go where?”

“The stone disk.”

“The stone disk?”

Seeming to realize his voice was a bit loud, Fatty immediately lowered it again, trembling as he said, “Doctor, those guys want to drive us to the stone disk.”

In Fatty’s understanding, obeying those guys’ wishes was a dead end.

“It’s not up to us anymore,” Jiang Cheng said.

Fatty barely had to think to know the doctor was right. Those guys had spread out, forming a net closing in on them. If they didn’t want to be caught on the spot, they had to flee deeper into the forest.

But… that was tantamount to slow suicide.

As the surrounding sounds grew more and more intense, the two began to move along the path towards the depths of the forest.

A few minutes later, a huge webbed foot, seemingly belonging to an amphibian, slammed down on the rock where Jiang Cheng and Fatty had briefly taken refuge. The sharp claws on it reflected a dim light.

A group of creatures, each two to three meters tall, emerged from all directions, crowding together, and chasing after them along the rugged path.

They left behind patches of disgusting mucus on the passing tree trunks and rocks.

Arriving at the stone disk again, they encountered no obstacles along the way. The stone disk was as clean as new, with no bones, corpses, or blood to be seen.

If one didn’t know what the stone disk meant, it could be mistaken for a huge work of art.

It was pure white, with a faint halo flashing on it. Fatty stared intently at the stone disk, and he even had the illusion that the stone disk was alive, rising and falling with his breathing.

He controlled himself to look away and turned to look at the doctor.

The doctor’s gaze slowly swept across the stone disk, seemingly searching for something. Fatty really didn’t want to disturb him, but it was no longer an option. Bizarre creatures had appeared near them.

They had dark green skin, some had webbed feet with sharp claws, and some had wings on their backs, but judging by their size, they definitely couldn’t fly.

One by one, these evolutionary freaks, seemingly escaped from a biological laboratory, slowly surrounded them.

At this point, Fatty calmed down instead. He took a deep breath, as if to vent all the resentment he had accumulated along the way.

“Doctor,” he said with a wry smile, “There’s no way out.”

“Mm.”

The doctor still seemed to be thinking, ignoring the approaching creatures. Fatty couldn’t help but feel sorry for this man. Even at this point, he was unwilling to give up?

Even if there really was a way out, it would be useless to them.

There was no time.

Strangely enough, Fatty was actually a very afraid of death. Not only afraid of death, but also afraid of pain. Once, while cutting vegetables and talking to the doctor, he accidentally cut his hand.

It wasn't a big wound, and Jiang Cheng probably wouldn't have even frowned, but Fatty whined for a long time, saying it was all the doctor's fault for talking to him.

So, he deducted one of the three dishes that had been promised that day.

But now, he didn't feel anything. It was as if he was about to go on a journey, or something. He was so calm that he didn't even recognize himself.

He just felt regret.

Not for himself, but for the doctor.

This was a pretty good person. Although he had some minor flaws, he was… really a pretty good person. He owed it to him that his life had been prolonged until now.

He was even thinking that if the doctor didn't have to worry about taking care of him, maybe… he would have left long ago.

After all, even tricky characters like Chen Ran and Su Xiaoxiao had fallen into the doctor's hands.

A person like him shouldn't die. If he had enough time, he might really be able to figure out the secrets hidden beneath the nightmare, and even… be able to crack this secret.

He had a kind of inexplicable confidence in the doctor.

He shouldn't die, the one who should die was just a drag like himself, who was still so shameless.

After enduring it for a long time, he finally spoke, “Doctor,” his voice was hoarse, the creatures were already very close, “Can you tell me your name?”

Jiang Cheng looked away and looked at him.

“No other meaning, Doctor,” he said with a wry smile, “It’s just that I’ve known you for so long, and I still don’t know your name. I feel it’s a bit of a pity.”

“I don’t have a name,” Jiang Cheng said, “I’m an orphan.”

“Then your last name…”

“Just made it up.”

Fatty: “…”

Besides being smart, the thing Fatty admired most about the doctor was his ability to ruin the atmosphere. He had originally planned to say goodbye to him properly, and then say some words of gratitude.

In Fatty's imagination, they would even hug each other to death in the end, a very emotional scene.

But now, it was all gone with the doctor's two sentences.

No wonder he was an orphan…

Some serious and unserious things flashed through his mind, and Fatty suddenly realized that the doctor's influence on him was quite large. If he were facing the current predicament in the past, he probably wouldn't even be able to stand up.

Not to mention thinking about giving the doctor one last emotional send-off.

“Huh?” Fatty seemed to suddenly realize something. He raised his head and looked at the doctor, who was still looking around the stone disk, and felt that things seemed to be different from what he had imagined.

The doctor seemed…

He immediately said, “Doctor, have you thought of something?”

“Sort of,” Jiang Cheng stretched out his hand and pulled Fatty to his side, because those monster-like things were getting closer and closer, “I’ve found a way out, Fatty,” he said.

Hearing this, Fatty immediately perked up. He didn’t get emotional either, and felt that his energy had returned. He was full of vigor, “Doctor, what are we waiting for? Let’s go!”

Jiang Cheng was still looking at him, and there was something in his eyes that Fatty didn’t want to see.

After only a moment, Fatty understood, “Do… Doctor,” he trembled, “Is… is it…”

“My method can only ensure that one person leaves,” Jiang Cheng said, “Maybe two people can too, but there’s a risk. The end result might be that no one can leave.”

Hope was rekindled and then shattered again. In other words, in the transition from losing hope to despair, the color drained from Fatty's face, and his purplish-blue lips trembled non-stop.

“If you’re saying you want me to take you with me,” Jiang Cheng paused, “I will try to take you away, but I hope you understand that the risk is very high, and it’s not worth it.”

The monsters slowly approached, and even the stench from their bodies had already wafted over, but no one cared about these things anymore. Jiang Cheng stared at Fatty, and after a moment, said in a formal tone he had never used before, “So…”

Fatty lowered his head, and after a few seconds…

“You go, Doctor,” he raised his head, but his expression was different from what Jiang Cheng had expected. Although the dimness in his eyes couldn’t be hidden, he still grinned and said with a smile, “It was nice knowing you, Doctor.”
