Gentle Sleep Instructor

Chapter 66 Explanation

“Is the mission nearing its end?” Zhou Taifu frowned.

“It should be,” Yu Wen said, looking up at the teaching building in front of her. A trace of unease appeared on her face. “We’re killing people right under their noses, and no one’s reacting.”

Two hours earlier.

Room 404.

“Doctor,” the fatty watched Jiang Cheng pull a camera from under the bed, and said in surprise, “When did you put that there? I didn’t even know.”

Jiang Cheng picked up the camera, tapping the screen as he replied, “My bad. Next time something like this happens, I’ll let you know a week in advance.”

Fatty: “……”

But after spending so much time with Jiang Cheng, the fatty’s resilience had taken a qualitative leap. He quickly wiggled his body and cozied up, acting as if he were family.

“Doctor, when are we leaving?”

“Wait a little longer.”

“Time waits for no one,” the fatty said, sounding uncharacteristically anxious. He glanced out the window. It was already broad daylight, and the other groups had already set out. “Midnight tomorrow is the deadline. If we can’t find any clues by then…”

Suddenly, Jiang Cheng’s body trembled uncontrollably, interrupting the fatty.

The fatty stared at Jiang Cheng, noticing that his face had turned pale for a moment. “Doctor,” he asked with concern, “are you alright?”

After a long while, Jiang Cheng silently put down the camera, his expression returning to normal.

“Fatty,” Jiang Cheng said slowly, “I know why no one died yesterday.”

The topic change was abrupt, and it took the fatty a moment to react. This topic was not at all pleasant. He cleared his throat and whispered, “Why?”

Jiang Cheng handed over the camera. Due to the angle, only the legs and feet were visible. The fatty frowned, unsure of Jiang Cheng’s intention.

Until—

He saw a pair of sneakers among the seven pairs of legs.

The instep was arched dramatically, the toes pointing towards the ground.

The steps… were incredibly light.

“This is…” The fatty gripped the camera tightly, staring at the screen, and cried out, “Luo Yi?!”

“The person who died yesterday was Luo Yi!” He suddenly realized something. “The current Luo Yi is… is a ghost in disguise!!”

After venting his shock, the fatty immediately looked at Jiang Cheng, who was now holding the camera, deleting the videos bit by bit.

“Yesterday, you noticed it yesterday, didn’t you?” The fatty said, belatedly realizing this. “That’s why you dared to sleep so soundly, even dared to take off your clothes, because you already knew where the ghost was!”

Jiang Cheng raised his head and gave him a look that said, "figure it out yourself."

The fatty immediately deflated again.

His outburst just now was merely an emotional release; now that he thought about it, it had no practical significance.

“Doctor,” the fatty said after a while, in a complaining tone, “I’m not as smart as you. Next time you think of something, can you secretly tell me? I was on tenterhooks all night last night, and I’ve got dark circles under my eyes.”

Jiang Cheng packed his things, putting the camera in his camera bag and slinging it over his shoulder, while replying casually, “Two points.”

“First, I was just guessing last night, and that guess wasn’t confirmed until just now.”

“Second,” Jiang Cheng took the half-eaten chocolate from his pocket and stuffed it into his mouth, turned around, and sighed, “Fatty, think about it. If I had told you the truth last night, would you have been able to sleep?”

The fatty thought about it carefully and realized that Jiang Cheng was right.

If he had known that a ghost was sleeping right next door last night… he probably wouldn’t have dared to close his eyes, let alone sleep.

The fatty adjusted his mood very quickly. He stuffed anything he thought might be useful into his pockets and said to Jiang Cheng, “Doctor, what’s our next move?”

After all… the ghost had already infiltrated their ranks.

Jiang Cheng thought for a moment and said, “For now, that ghost probably doesn’t have time to deal with us. He’s with Zhen Jianren, and they’re going to a place like the equipment center.”

The fatty pursed his lips, his tone devoid of sadness as he said, “Sounds like Guardian Brother is about to bite the dust…”

Jiang Cheng wasn’t interested in men, so he didn’t care about Zhen Jianren’s life or death.

He just hoped that Zhen Jianren could delay that ghost for a while longer, buying him time.

The sky after the rain was nice, but a bit chilly.

The fatty wrapped his coat tighter, but the cold air still crept in through the gaps.

Occasionally, a gust of wind would blow, and the trees overhead would shower them with a light rain.

“Doctor,” the fatty said, following closely behind Jiang Cheng, their footsteps alternating in rhythm, the two of them advancing in a single file. “Where are we going to find Director Li?”

“What do we need to find her for?”

The fatty was already used to Jiang Cheng’s train of thought and continued, “I know, Doctor. This is another one of your smokescreens. You’re going to screw someone over again, aren’t you?”

Jiang Cheng grunted in dissatisfaction.

A moment later, the fatty said with some hesitation, “Doctor, the two guys in 405 are probably dead meat, but I think that Yu Wen in 406 is pretty good. She seems upright and even took the initiative to share information with us.” He paused and looked up. “I don’t think there’s any point in screwing her over, is there? If we cooperate…”

Hearing this, Jiang Cheng stopped and turned to look at the fatty, making the latter’s spine tingle.

“Doctor,” the fatty cleared his throat, “what do you want to say?”

Jiang Cheng stared at him, his gaze making the fatty increasingly puzzled. Just as the fatty was about to crack, Jiang Cheng asked, “Do you like her?”

The fatty was stunned. It took him a long while to recover, and he said somewhat embarrassedly, “Doctor, what are you talking about?”

“You don’t like her,” Jiang Cheng nodded, as if confirming something, and then continued to ask, “Then do you know her?”

“No… I don’t.”

“Then you must understand her,” Jiang Cheng nodded slightly.

“No, no,” the fatty quickly waved his hands. “I didn’t say I understand her. This is the first time we’ve met here. I swear I’ve never seen her in real life!”

The fatty raised his hand, making a solemn vow.

Jiang Cheng’s expression was very strange, and he was instinctively afraid.

After a few seconds, Jiang Cheng suddenly smiled. He reached out and patted the fatty’s shoulder.

Just when the fatty thought that everything would be alright, his collar was suddenly pulled forward by a tremendous force.

The next moment, Jiang Cheng stared at him, his dark eyes looking down from above.

“I’m curious. How dare you vouch for someone you don’t like, don’t know, and don’t understand, vouch that she’s an upright person? Even… at the risk of your own life…”

“I want to hear your explanation,” Jiang Cheng said, “Fatty.”
