Chapter 548 It's Not About the Money
“I don’t care. We can just stay here all day if you want. I’ve got nothing else to do,” the old woman said, grinning and showing off her gold teeth, as if she had them right where she wanted them.
Just as Jiang Cheng suspected, the old woman had been hired by Xue Jinhua. Everything that had just happened had been filmed by Xue Jinhua’s people.
Of course, the photos were taken professionally, from angles that made it look like Jiang Cheng and the others had indeed hit the old woman.
“Girlie, that hairpin in your hair looks nice. Let me borrow it for a couple of days.” Without waiting for Lin Wan’er to reply, she immediately reached out with a dirt-covered hand and snatched the hairpin from the top of Lin Wan’er’s head.
Seeing this, Jiang Cheng glanced at the old woman but said nothing.
Without the hairpin, her ink-black hair cascaded down her back. Expressionless, Lin Wan’er directed Huai Yi to turn at the next intersection, steering the car behind a wall.
The fatty blinked. He knew this place; it was the abandoned park where he’d been left before.
The old woman examined the hairpin in her hand, liking it more and more. Although it was a wooden hairpin, the craftsmanship was superb, making it look quite valuable.
“We’re here,” Jiang Cheng suddenly said with a smile as the car came to a stop.
“Okay, you go get the money, then after I get the money, you can take me back. I’m short on time today, so don’t you dawdle…” Before she could finish, Jiang Cheng grabbed her by the collar, dragged her out of the car, and dumped her on the ground.
Seeing the desolate surroundings, the old woman panicked. The hairpin fell to the ground. “What are you doing bringing me here? I’m telling you, it’s against the law to hurt people. I’ll sue you until you’re bankrupt!”
“Hurt you? Why would I do that?” Jiang Cheng said with a smile. “I’m just here to compensate you.”
“Alright then, I won’t ask for too much. 20,000 will do, just like before. Once I get the money, I’ll leave, and we’ll be even. I promise I won’t cause you any trouble.”
As soon as she finished speaking, several stacks of money were thrown out of the car, landing at the old woman’s feet. “The money’s here,” Lin Wan’er said, looking out the window.
The old woman was overjoyed. There were four stacks of money, all red hundred-yuan bills, totaling 40,000.
Twice as much as she’d asked for.
“Little girl, you’re very sensible. I won’t hold today’s events against you.” The old woman’s face crinkled with laughter. She picked up the banknotes and the hairpin, and was just about to leave when the fatty and Huai Yi, who had been driving, also got out of the car.
“Leaving already?” Jiang Cheng asked. “Old lady, it seems like you’ve forgotten something.”
“What?”
“20,000 for a leg. That’s what you said. Now that you’ve taken 40,000 from us, you haven’t given us the leg yet.” With that, Huai Yi and the fatty immediately stepped forward, dragged the old woman to a ditch in front of the car, and positioned her leg in front of the wheel.
Jiang Cheng leisurely walked to the driver’s seat, started the car, and watched as the wheel got closer and closer to the leg. The old woman’s face changed with fright. “No, don’t do this! I don’t want your money!”
“Old lady, you can’t say that.” The fatty, holding tightly to the old woman’s leg, said, “This isn’t about the money. It’s about integrity.”
“Huai-xiongdi, hold her down tight. We agreed to only press the leg. If we press anywhere else, the old lady will try to scam us again,” the fatty said to Huai Yi, who was holding down the old woman’s upper body, his tone strange and sarcastic.
“Fu Gui-xiongdi, don’t worry. We definitely won’t let the old lady succeed,” Huai Yi said with a strange laugh. “When the car comes, we’ll let go together. Don’t let her splash blood all over our faces.”
“I was wrong, please, don’t do this! I’ll never dare to do it again!” The old woman had never seen such a scene before. She could tell that these people were not ordinary people; they weren’t honest people at all. She shouldn’t have provoked such people. She only ever scammed honest people.
Jiang Cheng occasionally revved the engine, the car making eager noises. From beginning to end, Lin Wan’er sat quietly in the back seat, scrolling through her phone.
“Jiang-ge,” Huai Yi shouted, “this old hag’s left leg was broken before. Let’s press her right leg first, then use her arm to support her left leg, otherwise she’ll take advantage of us again!”
The old woman rolled her eyes at this, on the verge of passing out, with snot and tears all over her face. “I was wrong, I’ll never dare to do it again. I’ll report them, I’ll report that someone asked me to cause trouble. They gave me 20,000 yuan, saying they’d give me another 20,000 after it was done!”
As if worried that Jiang Cheng in the driver’s seat couldn’t hear, the old woman screamed at the top of her lungs.
Finally, the car wheel stopped one second before crushing the old woman’s body.
The old woman was on her last breath, still rolling her eyes incessantly, her body twitching intermittently, like she had epilepsy.
Jiang Cheng opened the car door, looked at the old woman lying paralyzed on the ground, and said, “Don’t let her die yet. While she’s still hot, take her to the police station and get her statement recorded. If she dares to say a single word wrong, I’ll keep playing with you.”
