Chapter 370: Ch 370 : Disguise
Hearing the branch manager say the price was ten million Mora per gram of Smaragdus Jadeite, Ganyu didn’t even know what to say...
After a brief silence, she spoke up, "Mr. Branch Manager, don’t you think this is a little too much?"
"As everyone knows, Smaragdus Jadeite is a type of ore with extremely high density. Compared to other gemstones, its weight is already relatively heavy by nature..."
"A piece of normally-sized Smaragdus Jadeite usually weighs several kilograms..."
"If we calculate based on ten million Mora per gram, that would be an astronomical figure!"
"Even the Ministry of Civil Affairs wouldn’t be able to gather that much money in such a short time..."
"Oh, then I’m truly sorry..."
The branch manager responded with a fake smile:
"This is already the lowest price I can offer. If you’re unwilling to pay this amount, then I’m afraid there’s nothing more I can do..."
"Have a nice day—see yourselves out."
After the group left the Northland Bank, Su Yuan couldn’t hold back his anger and said:
"It’s already blatantly obvious now—Northland Bank, and the Fatui and Snezhnaya behind it, are all targeting us!"
"With the current situation being so urgent, should we just go and take those Smaragdus Jadeites by force?"
"In the absolute worst-case scenario... that might really be an option..."
Ganyu spoke with a troubled expression:
"I have this feeling... that branch manager at Northland Bank is doing all of this on purpose."
"His goal is to force us into using improper means to acquire those Smaragdus Jadeites..."
"That way, if they manage to uncover any clues or catch us doing something wrong, Snezhnaya can then use it as leverage to pressure us diplomatically..."
"Su Yuan, maybe... maybe I can give it a try."
Just then, Su Yuan suddenly heard Tartaglia’s voice in his mind:
"I can use my identity as a Fatui Harbinger to demand some Smaragdus Jadeite from that manager..."
"As a subordinate to the Harbingers, he’d be required to comply with my orders and meet my demands."
"But Tartaglia, you don’t have your own body anymore. Even if you control mine, that manager wouldn’t believe you’re really Tartaglia, would he?" Su Yuan responded.
"No worries! We can just put together a good disguise!"
Tartaglia replied confidently:
"Even though there’s a size difference between our builds, as long as you wear something loose enough, it won’t be that noticeable..."
"Then throw on a hat, some sunglasses, and a mask — and I’ll speak with my own voice. Who could possibly tell it’s not me?"
Su Yuan nodded, then passed along Tartaglia’s plan to the others.
Everyone agreed — if it worked, it would be a pretty solid plan.
So, after a quick disguise session, with Tartaglia now controlling Su Yuan, dressed in a loose changpao-style robe, wearing a round hat and round-framed sunglasses, they returned to the Liyue Harbor branch of the Northland Bank...
"Hm? Customer, with that getup, you look more like a Liyue fortune-teller than anything else..."
The staff member at Northland Bank welcomed Su Yuan with polite enthusiasm, but there was a clear undertone of suspicion in his words:
"If you’re here to make a deposit or discuss financial services, you’re more than welcome..."
"But if you’re here to do feng shui readings or fortune-telling for us, I’m afraid Northland Bank does not believe in those things. We won’t be able to accommodate you."
"Bring out your branch manager. I have business with him," Tartaglia said.
"Sir, our branch manager is extremely busy. May I ask if you scheduled an appointment in advance?" the staff member replied.
"I need an appointment just to see a mere branch manager of Northland Bank?" Tartaglia smiled as he pulled out a Vision and a Delusion from his pocket.
Upon seeing both the Vision and the Delusion, the staff member’s expression immediately shifted to one of shock.
Within the Fatui hierarchy, Delusions are also ranked by level of quality.
The higher the quality of the Delusion, the higher the status of its bearer.
And the one before him now—this Delusion was clearly of the caliber reserved for Harbingers at the very least!
"To think a Harbinger himself would grace our humble branch... What an honor this is for a lowly one such as myself!"
Accompanied by a sycophantic voice, the branch manager appeared before Su Yuan and Tartaglia.
However, the manager immediately changed his tone, narrowing his eyes in suspicion and saying:
"But... may I ask which Harbinger you are, sir? I’ve never seen a disguise like yours before..."
"Oh? The fact that you couldn’t recognize me at first just means my disguise is working well, doesn’t it?" Tartaglia replied coolly.
"Hm? Now that I’ve heard your voice, I think I know exactly which Harbinger you are," the manager said with a smile.
"Tell me, Lord ’Childe,’ what brings you to our humble Northland Bank branch?"
"If you’ve run out of checks, Lord Pantalone already gave us instructions—take however many you need. No need to be shy."
"Hey! I’m in the middle of a mission—don’t just go around revealing my identity!" Tartaglia snapped, feigning annoyance.
"Understood, my apologies. That was a failure on my part," the manager responded apologetically.
"I’m short on time, so I’ll get straight to the point. I need some Smaragdus Jadeite," Tartaglia said bluntly.
Hearing this, the manager’s expression shifted to one of discomfort: "Lord ’Childe,’ if you’re just in need of funds, we have an unlimited amount ready for you..."
"But Smaragdus Jadeite is a different matter. Lord Pantalone gave strict orders that it’s not to be handed over to anyone..."
"I need it for a mission. Pantalone and I are quite close—he won’t mind," Tartaglia said.
"And if he gives you trouble about it later, just tell him to speak to me directly."
"Even so..." the manager still seemed hesitant, squinting as he scrutinized Su Yuan’s figure from head to toe.
"Are you really... Lord ’Childe’?"
Rather than argue further, Tartaglia simply responded by summoning his Foul Legacy: Havoc Armament—donning his fearsome armor before the manager’s eyes.
"That... that’s the Foul Legacy armor! That aura... there’s no mistake. You truly are Lord ’Childe’!"
The branch manager nodded and said:
"Lord ’Childe,’ your armor... it’s full of cracks and damage. You really must have gone through a tough battle while on duty, haven’t you?"
"Well then, since you insist on it, I suppose I have no choice but to hand over the Smaragdus Jadeite."
He then brought out an exquisitely decorated box and handed it to Tartaglia.
Both Su Yuan and Tartaglia were a little surprised—they hadn’t expected this plan to actually work so easily!
