Chapter 5 Ragtag Team
It was meal time.
It was morning, a little early for a meal, but so what? To specially celebrate "Master's" awakening, starting a little early was no problem at all.
The meal was in the backyard, next to the room where Zheng Fan had woken up.
A round table,
with seven people seated.
At the head of the table was Zheng Fan, with Feng Siniang on his left and the blind man on his right.
This blind man was a character from A Qiu's comics. A Qiu's father was a public servant who died in the line of duty. She hadn't shared the specifics with everyone, presumably only her boyfriend, Liang Cheng, knew a little.
However, the character "Bei" that A Qiu created in her comic "The Blind Man" possessed an extremely bloody style of law enforcement, setting up his own court and punishing criminals without regard for humanity, using extremely cruel methods, venting his spleen as he saw fit.
But "Bei," in reality, gave off a very peaceful and cheerful feeling, always smiling and seemingly without any temper.
The seating arrangement was naturally deliberate. Feng Siniang and Bei sat on either side of Zheng Fan, at least ensuring that the atmosphere at the table wouldn't be too stiff.
The vampire A Ming and the zombie Liang Cheng naturally sat across from him. According to Feng Siniang's idea, they should be squatting at the door eating out of their bowls, who did they think they were showing their cold faces to?
As for Xue San, he wasn't presentable; getting too close to Master would affect Master's appetite.
Fan Li, on the other hand, was too taciturn, always wanting to chat about his experiences with castrating people. Until it was determined whether Master had a tolerance for heavy topics, Feng Siniang didn't dare let him get too close.
"Come on, raise your glasses, let's celebrate Master's awakening! From today on, we have someone to rely on!"
Feng Siniang took the lead,
and everyone stood up and raised their glasses,
everyone else followed suit.
After the toast, it was time to eat.
Zheng Fan was hungry. After all, he was someone who had the courage to "end" himself. After getting over the initial shock and confusion, he was now able to tackle the food in front of him with a good appetite.
At the table,
Fan Li held an extra-large rice bowl, not eating much of the dishes, but shoveling rice with gusto;
Xue San held a chicken leg, happily gnawing on it.
A Ming was focused solely on the bowl of spicy duck blood soup in front of him, while Liang Cheng gnawed on lamb bones.
Bei ate very slowly and leisurely, with the most refined table manners of the group.
Taking advantage of the opportunity, Feng Siniang began to introduce the situation here to Zheng Fan.
First of all,
naturally, was the arrival of everyone.
It had been half a year,
On a certain day half a year ago, a total of eight people appeared together on the edge of a desert.
Of course, Zheng Fan was among them.
But everyone else was awake, only Zheng Fan was still unconscious.
So everyone carried the unconscious Zheng Fan and slowly explored the surrounding area, eventually choosing this small town on the edge of the desert as their base.
Where they were now was a tavern, but this tavern also had many entertainment options, a bit like a modern entertainment club, where eating, drinking, entertainment, and sleeping could all be satisfied.
Feng Siniang naturally took up her old business. Among these people, she was really the only one with a head for business.
In this tavern, Feng Siniang had a dozen or so girls under her command, specializing in serving customers.
The stage was for performances. Xue San was in charge of dressing up as a clown or telling stories, while Liang Cheng performed some acrobatics, breaking stones on his chest or pushing spears against his throat.
A Ming was in charge of brewing wine, and his wine was very famous in this small town.
The blind man, Bei, set up a fortune-telling stall at the entrance of the tavern, trying to swindle whoever he could.
As for Fan Li, he was responsible for chopping wood and doing odd jobs.
Therefore, the tavern's business had always been quite good, and it was considered thriving in this small town.
Next, Feng Siniang began to complain. She complained that although Fan Li did a lot of work, doing the work of three people, he could eat the food of five people!
Hearing this, the honest and taciturn Fan Li raised his head, smiling憨憨ly, seemingly a little embarrassed, but immediately lowered his head and continued shoveling rice.
Feng Siniang then began to complain that the blind man, Bei, was able to deceive quite a few wealthy customers in the beginning. The start-up funds for everyone to rent this place and do business were obtained by the blind man, Bei, through swindling. But in recent months, his customers had become fewer and fewer, and he wasn't worried. He set up his stall on time every day, not soliciting customers or thinking about commercial transformation to attract customers, just leisurely sitting at the door, basking in the sun, and then coming in to eat on time at meal times.
Hearing this, the blind man, Bei, smiled wryly and said:
"Tiger Head Town is only this small, with only this many people. There are only two or three rich customers, there's nothing I can do."
Feng Siniang glared at the blind man, Bei.
She couldn't complain about the others. The vampire A Ming's wine had always sold very well, and some passing caravans would sometimes come here specifically to buy wine. Xue San's performances and storytelling were also energetic, and Liang Cheng, although unwilling, would still perform acrobatics to attract customers when asked to.
As for herself, she was managing everything inside and out, and the group of girls under her command were a steady source of income.
Of course, Feng Siniang was also unhappy. This was probably the most dilapidated brothel she had ever run in all her years. None of the girls under her were delicate, none of them knew how to play musical instruments or paint, and most of them were about the same age as her. Some of them, she even had to call "sister."
There was no way around it. Tiger Head Town was close to the desert, a bitterly cold place. The people here had limited spending power, and many were passing caravans that came specifically for services and didn't need the prostitutes to know anything about music or art.
For Feng Siniang, this was like asking a Michelin chef to run a roadside barbecue stand... the feeling of professional fulfillment was unbelievably low.
However,
Upon hearing this,
Zheng Fan, who had already eaten a lot of food, had to put down his chopsticks.
There was one thing
that made him extremely puzzled.
Looking around the entire table,
the vampire A Ming, the blind man Bei, Fan Li, Xue San, Liang Cheng, plus this Feng Siniang, in theory, should all be demonic figures. How could they all be living ordinary lives in this small town?
This seemed extremely inconsistent with their personas and art style.
So, Zheng Fan opened his mouth and asked:
"For the past six months, you've all been here, making money and living?"
Hearing this,
Fan Li stopped shoveling rice,
Xue San bit into the chicken leg,
A Ming put down his chopsticks,
Liang Cheng frowned, looking at the bone,
Feng Siniang also stopped her incessant chatter,
Finally,
the blind man Bei let out a bitter laugh,
and said:
"Master, from the first day we woke up, we discovered one thing..."
"What thing?"
"That is, we have all become ordinary people."
"........." Zheng Fan.
Ordinary... ordinary people?
This answer, this reality, was completely unexpected for Zheng Fan.
However, after calming down and thinking about it, it suddenly seemed so reasonable.
The vampire A Ming was eating spicy duck blood soup, the zombie Liang Cheng was gnawing on bones, a bunch of demons were actually living together in this small town, making money to support their families...
If they hadn't lost their power, how could they have accepted this kind of life?
Even if they were experiencing life, they couldn't possibly have been doing it for half a year, right?
There was one good news, which was that after hearing them say that they had become ordinary people, the pressure in Zheng Fan's heart had actually lessened a lot.
A tiger without teeth could still slap himself to death, but at least it wasn't as scary as before, right?
Moreover, although he didn't know why, they all called him "Master," as if they recognized him as their master, but if he were to control this group of demons in their prime right from the start, he might not have had the guts to do so.
It seemed that this topic had touched a sore spot, and the atmosphere at the table dropped a lot.
Zheng Fan took a deep breath and then looked at Feng Siniang, who was sitting next to him. There was something he had actually wanted to ask for a long time, but had been holding back until now.
"Where is the Magic Pill?"
*Mo Wan* (Magic Pill), was the protagonist in Zheng Fan's own comics, a fierce and monstrous infant, with an innate, strong resentment.
To put it bluntly, when it came to character creation, terrifying atmosphere, and exciting plots, the others in the studio really couldn't compare to him. It could also be said that the comic *Mo Wan* was the most extreme of all the comics produced by the studio.
Even the character of *Mo Wan* was the most terrifying among these seven demon kings.
But no matter what, *Mo Wan*, after all, was drawn by him personally.
The creators often had a sense of immediacy like looking at their children when it came to their own works. To say that *Mo Wan* was Zheng Fan's son, this was not an exaggeration at all.
If *Mo Wan* was here, Zheng Fan's heart would be much more at ease.
Just like ancient generals fighting battles, could you be stable if you didn't have your own direct line of descendants under your command?
However,
This question made Feng Siniang a little embarrassed, as if she didn't know how to answer.
Beside them, A Ming, who was sitting there, stood up, left his seat, and went into the room. Soon, he walked in holding a box.
Putting the box on the table in front of Zheng Fan, A Ming said very coldly:
"He is inside."
"Hmm?"
Zheng Fan reached out in surprise and opened the box.
Originally, Zheng Fan thought that something had happened to *Mo Wan* and that the box contained his head, because he was an infant, and although this box was a bit small, it seemed to be enough to hold his head.
But after opening the box,
He found that the box contained only a black stone.
"This is... *Mo Wan*?"
Feng Siniang glanced jealously at the stone in the box and said:
"Master, he said he doesn't have a physical body, doesn't need to eat, doesn't need to drink, so he doesn't need to work, and sealed himself in this stone."
