Chapter 1662: Chapter 1656: All Depends on Luck

"Ah, it’s killing me."

Among the three who successfully transferred, Brother Shi and Wu Zhixiong were mostly fine, but Ghost Head, who was carried the whole way, kept wailing. When Wu Zhixiong carried him over just now, he was thrown so hard that he felt dizzy.

"If you weren’t like this, who the hell would be willing to fuss over you? Get up quickly, we have many more situations like this to go through."

Not allowing Ghost Head to wail on the ground for too long, Brother Shi stood up and was ready to pull him to continue their escape, but was refused by Ghost Head.

"No need to carry me, I’ll try to walk on my own." He pushed away Brother Shi’s outstretched hand. Being carried by two people alternately made him feel uneasy, this way of overcoming difficulties together... to be honest, it’s a bit strange.

This is the apocalypse, he was used to a life of survival by any means in the apocalypse. People should be like this in the apocalypse. This sudden change made him feel alienated from the apocalypse, feeling shameful for the first time, realizing that his worldview was so distorted in the apocalypse, he should have realized earlier this is how human society is! And not taken for granted!

"Can you walk?"

Seeing Ghost Head like this, Brother Shi could only retract his hand and watch as Ghost Head slowly moved forward. But at this moment, Wu Zhixiong’s voice came from behind, urgent and impatient!

"Don’t waste time, hurry up and carry him!"

Brother Shi and Ghost Head both turned their heads to look. As soon as they had jumped there, the zombies climbing the building quickly shifted as well. Through the window, they saw a large number of Level 4 zombies leaping over towards them, making their scalps tingle!

"Hurry!"

This scene made Ghost Head dare not waste time any longer. Brother Shi swiftly picked him up and, together with Wu Zhixiong, burst open the room door and rushed out. Sounds of "bang bang bang" came from behind; the walls collapsed under the zombies’ ferocious impact!

A dense growl of corpses surged into their ears at that moment. They dashed blindly without stopping as long as there was a way forward. Those overly large Level 4 zombies caused destruction in the corridors as they chased, making lights shatter with cracking sounds, wall plaster fall off, and the ground beneath their feet crack!

Then, with a loud "boom," the path ahead of the three suddenly collapsed, revealing the floor of the room below, giving them no time to react as they fell straight down!

"Pttth pttth pttth!"

Brother Shi spat out a mouthful of cement dust. Wu Zhixiong in front had already gotten up, without saying a word, he crashed open the locked door and rushed out again. Zombies behind roared and followed closely, hurling down like an avalanche from the upper floor. However, their luck wasn’t so great. Before they could stand up, with more of their kind falling down, the ground started to crack, causing another collapse. A large number of zombies fell to the lower level, and after they crawled back up, they roared in dissatisfaction. Meanwhile, the zombies in the back grew wise. Before jumping down, they used their sharp corpse claws to grip the broken part of the floor, avoiding falling and slammed into the door frame!

"Let’s just stay here!" Glancing back, Wu Zhixiong snorted and then turned back to walk a few steps, tipping over a large cabinet against the wall in the corridor. Then he used his Tianguang to sweep across the ceiling. After the laser tore the ceiling and it came crashing down, he turned and continued his escape.

The collapsed ceiling blocked the corridor, so the zombies were stuck on the other side and would need some time to get through. But Brother Shi and his team quickly reached the staircase.

"Why don’t we go up?" Brother Shi suggested.

Wu Zhixiong hesitated for a few seconds before quickly responding, "Let’s go with your idea."

"Just like that!"

Having decided, the three of them immediately started heading up, but just as they entered the stairwell, zombie growls came from above. The three looked up and froze in place, seeing a huge zombie head blocking the upper floor stairwell door. They appeared dumbstruck for a second, then reversed course as fast as they could!

The upper route was now impossible. Their only option was to run downward. As they descended, some zombies smashed through windows, sticking their grotesque heads out to snarl at them. But due to their exaggeratedly evolved bodies, they got stuck in the walls and couldn’t get through. The trio kept rushing downward, without knowing where they were heading. If they eventually reached the ground floor, whether they’d be chased down by countless zombies or torn apart at first sight was unpredictable. They could only pray for some luck!

At this moment, another zombie growl emerged from behind, and judging from the volume, it was close. Wu Zhixiong looked back and saw a zombie emerging from the upper corridor, half of its body sticking out and roaring at them!

"Die already!"

He immediately raised the Tianguang in his hand, aiming at the creature, and without hesitation unleashed a laser shot!

Zap!

Bang!

The scorching laser instantly pushed open the fire door in the corridor, sending the Level 4 zombie flying backward. Wu Zhixiong fired several more rounds, blasting the upper floor into unrecognizable condition and blocking entrance to the corridor before stopping and following Brother Shi.

"Let’s assess the situation later. If we find a floor without zombies, we run in. If not, whether we live or die on the ground floor is left to luck."

"I don’t think we’re gonna make it; with so many zombies below, it looks like a damn ocean. Getting there, we’d be gone instantly. If that’s the case, I’d rather fall to my death."

Brother Shi shook his head in frustration. The three had already come to terms with the situation—worse comes to worst, it’s death. While they couldn’t control whether they lived, they could choose how to die, their only choice now.

Seemingly understanding the meaning in Brother Shi’s words, Wu Zhixiong smiled. Although it was a smile, there was something unfathomable in his expression.

They slowed their pace, walking quietly in the corridor, listening to the muffled zombie growls from above. Compared to before, it was peaceful for the three, signaling the last moments of their lives, the little time they had left to savor their final possession.

Ghost Head was put down by Brother Shi, limping along with them, teasing, "Could use a smoke right now."

"Yeah, they say smoking’s nice. I wish I’d learned how at the end." Brother Shi replied, regretting perhaps letting Ghost Head take his cigarette from the anti-zombie wall earlier.

Sizzle...

Rattle~ Boom!
