Wei Jie
Author: Wei Jie
Let's start with the book *The Ninth Special Zone*. When this book entered the later stages, I took time to think about what subject matter I should write about for my next book.
At that time, I thought of many stories, but I didn't feel very satisfied. Until near the end of the book, because I had been paying attention to various news for a long time, I accidentally thought of a subject matter that I felt very excited about.
The following line of words automatically appeared in my mind: "After the New Era, resources recovered, the major districts rose, and overseas Chinese experienced a century-long journey home through three generations!"
For me, this subject matter had breakthroughs and story shaping points. First of all, I had never written an overseas story before, so there was room for development; secondly, I had a strong feeling of excitement for such stories with a sense of historical weight.
So, I consulted a lot of materials, and slowly improved this story, which was the preview I posted on the official account at that time. The overall structure was prepared to show the big picture from a small perspective, with the bottom-level perspective of Dragon City, and based on the jianghu atmosphere of the association, to describe a generation gradually awakening and finally embarking on the journey home.
But unfortunately, this book had just started, and when the results were making rapid progress, several major channels successively rejected it more than thirty times, on the grounds that the down-to-earth descriptions of the bottom level and the story structure of the association were sensitive and had to be deleted and revised.
At that time, it was the stage when Su Tianyu and Yu Mingyuan and others had just started their business, the entire story structure had just been laid out, the confrontation with the "code worker unit" was still continuing, and the story's theme had only just begun to emerge.
If it was the first fifty or sixty thousand words, there would still be a chance to adjust, but the story had been spread to five or six hundred thousand words, and the structure and tone had been set. Change it? How to change it?
There was no way, after being rejected more than thirty times, I also revised it more than thirty times. During that time, I often stayed up until four or five in the morning. Some careful readers will also find when reading from the beginning that many details and foreshadowing in the book are gone, including the job titles of various characters, which have also changed. Names with too much jianghu flavor could not be used.
I have always believed that writing a book is like cooking. Every cook has his own unique way of cooking. And with this change, the taste of the dish Dragon City changed.
The development process of the association and the bottom level could not be described, which was equivalent to cutting off the core point of this book. Some channels could not be accessed, and the buyout cost given to me by the platform was difficult to recover, so the number of words was limited, and the story of this book could not be written long.
Most importantly! Many characters could not be perfectly shaped after losing the down-to-earth descriptions, including Tang Yao, the son of a miner, and his sister, as well as Lu Feng, Wei Xiangzuo and others.
Their original plots were buried in the story carrier of the association's struggle. With that cut off, the characters could not stand up and could not be moving. Including Li Mingsheng, I originally planned to have him sacrifice on the road to his ideal, just when he was getting in touch with Lao Mo, and before Huatong Association had been completely established.
If he was gone at this time, Su Tianyu's character arc could be complete, and he could enter an extremely difficult situation for tempering.
But unfortunately, the entire story had to be shortened, and the power system of the game between the enemy and us in the book had to be considered, so Li Mingsheng could not die. Otherwise, Su Tianyu would have no support, and no development process, so it would be impossible to have the logic to reach the final victory.
This is the biggest regret I have had since I started writing books. Telling a story is like stacking blocks. If the foundation is solid, the blocks can be stacked stably and high.
After entering the middle and late stages, I was completely relying on my more than ten years of writing experience to pull the plot back and trim the edges and corners.
During that time, my mentality really collapsed. Many old readers who were active in the book review area should have also noticed that I was very emotionally unstable and would explode at the slightest provocation. But I really couldn't control it at that time. My thinking and physical strength were seriously overdrawn, and I was irritable.
I always felt that I was working hard, but I couldn't get understanding.
But later, my wife became pregnant, and our family was going to have a new member, and I could also open up another way of thinking when writing *Eternal Life*, which was equivalent to relaxing my brain, and my emotions became much more stable.
In any case, I would like to apologize to those readers who have had disputes with me. Don't be like me. During that time, I wanted to give myself two punches when I looked in the mirror.
This book definitely has some regrets. According to my plan, I originally wanted to completely transform and touch new subjects after finishing Dragon City, but these changes made this plan come a little earlier.
For me personally, I know clearly that one genre has a fixed readership for that genre. A rash transformation will lead to a decline in results and even affect my income.
But I still say that writing a book is indeed a way for me to support my family, but at the same time, I always have a little vision, that is, to leave a little work as much as possible while I can still write.
It's work! Not anything else!
Transformation will spark new inspiration and creative passion. Being complacent is just living off your past achievements.
When I wrote *The Ninth Special Zone*, I had this kind of thinking. Without boasting, no author in this genre dares to have such a large span, but I dare.
If it fails, I'll just start all over again!
Okay, I've been rambling so much, it's time to say goodbye.
I know that many people only read works of similar genres, and many people may really be leaving, and may not even read web novels anymore.
But no matter what, you are all old brothers, old friends, and old sisters who have accompanied me for ten years!
I sincerely say thank you to you. The ten years with you are my best ten years. From 23 to 33 years old, all my life is closely related to you.
Some people say that my transformation means the end of youth. But I want to say that youth will end sooner or later, but memories will always exist!
Thank you all!! Love you!!
In the future, I will embark on a new journey. Any subject matter is possible, and I may try any type.
To the readers who are leaving, let's say goodbye!
To the readers who are still following *Eternal Life*, let's continue on our way!!
That's all for now!
