Chapter 131 One Place, One Command
Late at night, around 11 PM, Captain Niu, Yu JinHang, and the others arrived in Dragon City and were picked up by a major from the local security bureau.
After entering the city, the local security bureau major immediately arranged a banquet to welcome them. He even invited female colleagues from the bureau to accompany them and served alcohol.
Captain Niu wanted to decline, but since he needed the local department's help, he reluctantly drank with them until dawn.
After a night of heavy drinking, it was around 9 AM the next morning.
Captain Niu splashed cold water on his face in the guest hotel and immediately took his team members to the Dragon City Security Bureau headquarters to find the major from the previous night.
After they were seated in the work area, the major smiled and said, "The chief of our Intelligence Division One will be here at noon to treat everyone to drinks."
Captain Niu frowned and immediately waved his hand, saying, "We really can't drink anymore. We're here on official business and need to resolve this quickly, or I won't be able to explain myself."
"Oh, it's not like rushing will make a difference of a day. We're also contacting people at the customs," the major replied with a chuckle. "Let's get together at noon first. You cadres from afar are holding imperial swords, so we have to fulfill our duty as hosts."
Captain Niu refused again, "Really, we can't drink anymore. Let's contact the informant as soon as possible and figure things out."
The political environment in District One is completely different from that of Dragon City, and their working styles also differ greatly. Dragon City emphasizes connections and personal relationships. As long as the relationship is good, things are easy to handle. But in Captain Niu's eyes, the staff in Dragon City were just colleagues; their relationship was purely professional.
This difference in perspective is related to their respective environments and doesn't necessarily mean one is right and the other is wrong.
Seeing Captain Niu's insistence, the major didn't mention lunch again and immediately cut to the chase, saying, "We started working on this before you arrived yesterday. If you need to handle a case at the port, we need to find someone in charge of customs."
"Someone inside customs?" Captain Niu frowned and asked.
"Not someone inside customs, one of our own people," the major replied with a smile. "He's responsible for the port area."
"Your department doesn't have information on the port? No inside informants?" Captain Niu asked in surprise.
"No, we divide the areas. Each person is responsible for their own territory," the major replied, shrugging. "The port isn't under our department's jurisdiction. If I were to plant an informant there, wouldn't that be overstepping my boundaries?"
Captain Niu was speechless for a moment. "Okay, then contact him as soon as possible."
...
Around noon.
The major found the official responsible for intelligence gathering in the port area, and they met in the work area.
"Lao Ge, how did it go?" the major asked on behalf of Captain Niu.
"Are you sure the person is connected to the Ma Gang?" a balding, middle-aged man in his forties asked in return.
"We can confirm it," Captain Niu nodded.
"Wait a moment." The balding man took out his phone and walked to the stairwell.
Captain Niu waited anxiously with his hands clasped.
After about ten minutes, the balding man returned and said in a low voice, "I contacted an informant from the Ma Gang through someone at customs. It's confirmed that six Mexicans were at the port and had contact with Xu Hu."
Captain Niu's eyes lit up. "Where are they?"
"I'll give you a contact number. Go to the port and find the customs guy. He'll give you the information." The balding man wrote down a phone number on a piece of paper. "When handling things, we have to grease their palms a little."
Captain Niu took the paper. "What do you mean by 'grease their palms'?"
The balding man was taken aback. "Informant fees!"
"…!" Captain Niu understood and looked a little speechless.
"The informants aren't part of the security unit. They definitely want money for their work," the balding man chuckled. "Never mind, I'll arrange it later. You just need to contact them."
Captain Niu turned to look at the major. "If we don't have enough manpower…?"
"I'll prepare a team. If we confirm it, we'll make the arrest," the major replied immediately.
"Good!" Captain Niu nodded.
...
After the group finished discussing, Captain Niu took his twelve team members and three local security bureau officers from Dragon City to Tianhong Port in Zhanan at around 4 PM.
Meanwhile, Yu JinHang was still drinking with people at the garrison. He wasn't directly responsible for the case, so he wasn't involved in the specific investigation. Instead, he was preparing for the aftermath.
Around 4:30 PM.
Captain Niu arrived at Tianhong Port with a dozen people in ordinary clothes and inconspicuous cars.
Inside the car, Captain Niu instructed the driver, "Just wait here. I'll go meet the informant."
"Okay," the driver nodded.
Captain Niu got out of the car with three men, glanced around the street, and walked to a supermarket, where they sat down under a sunshade.
"Four glasses of orange juice, please," Captain Niu called out to the store owner as he sat down.
"Okay, just a moment," the owner replied.
...
Dragon City Police Department, Criminal Detention Center.
Wang Daolin sat in the interrogation room, looking at a henchman from the Ma Gang who had been arrested at sea. He asked softly, "Want a cigarette?"
The Ma Gang henchman was surprised. "Our case has already entered the court trial stage. Why is the police department interrogating us again?"
Wang Daolin slowly stood up, walked in front of him, and put a cigarette in his mouth. "There's something I want to ask you about."
"What is it, officer?"
"I heard that the original amount of goods at sea was six million, but why was it found to be eight million?" Wang Daolin lit the cigarette for him. "What's going on?"
The henchman took a drag of the cigarette and chose to remain silent.
Wang Daolin slowly bent down, looked at him with his hands behind his back, and said with a chuckle, "This isn't much of a secret, is it? Do you think I can't find out without asking you?"
The henchman blinked but didn't say anything.
"You really want to offend me?!" Wang Daolin pointed at him and said, "Do you believe I can make you eat shit in prison every day? And I mean every day!"
"That's not what I meant, Officer Wang!" The henchman looked a little flustered. "It's just that this matter…"
Under the dim light, Wang Daolin began chatting with the Ma Gang suspect.
...
Around 6 PM.
Captain Niu had been waiting at the supermarket for an hour and a half, but the so-called informant still hadn't arrived.
"It's been too long. Should we call the local people?" The officer next to him was getting impatient.
Captain Niu glanced at his watch and reached for his phone.
Just then, a burly man in a tracksuit walked over and slapped Captain Niu on the head. "Hey, get lost! I want to sit here!"
Captain Niu looked up at him, looking bewildered.
