Chapter 370 Testing the Waters
Five minutes later, two mud-covered figures emerged from the trench, their eyes unfocused as they looked around.
"Where the hell is this?" Lu Feng turned his head, surveying the surroundings. He saw nothing but mountains and forests. Based on the geographical features alone, he couldn't pinpoint their location at all.
"It should be towards Sinaloa. I've been on this road before," Su Tiannan replied softly. "Going forward should be Haiyan Pit."
Lu Feng's lips twitched when he heard "Haiyan Pit." "Damn it, how many people have fallen into that pit and never come out? We're lucky today."
Su Tiannan glanced at him without a word and started walking forward.
Lu Feng wiped the mud off his face as he followed behind, muttering, "Xiao Su, how are we going to record our statements when we get back?"
Su Tiannan ignored him and continued walking. Both of their phones had been confiscated, so they couldn't contact anyone. Their only option was to find a populated area and hitch a ride back to the city.
Lu Feng quickly caught up with Su Tiannan, hunching over as he walked in the dark, muttering to himself, "When I get back, this is how I'll record my statement with the police! I'll say that we were both taken hostage, and during the escape, I tried to grab a gun and run away, but the bandits didn't kill me, they let me go instead...!"
Su Tiannan kept walking.
"One of the bandits had a private conversation with hostage Su Tiannan. I didn't hear what they talked about," Lu Feng continued.
Su Tiannan stopped and turned to look at him, his expression grim.
Under the moonlight, their eyes met.
Lu Feng tilted his head, looking at Su Tiannan. "You wouldn't want to silence me, would you?! But I don't think you're strong enough to beat me in a one-on-one fight."
Su Tiannan stepped forward, getting close to Lu Feng, and said in a low voice, "Are you trying to set me up?"
Lu Feng grinned at him.
"We're the only hostages who came back. What you say to the police is what goes, right?!" Su Tiannan pointed at Lu Feng, his voice low. "With only one person's statement, who can sentence me to death? But if you talk nonsense, those desperate criminals who dared to spray automatic weapons in The Dragon City, might come back one day and blow your Buddhist scars to bits. You believe that?"
After saying that, Lu Feng wiped the mud off his mouth, pointed at Su Tiannan, and retorted, "You really know those bandits?"
"Are you stupid?! Did chanting sutras make you dumb?" Su Tiannan frowned. "If I knew them, would they have taken me hostage at the scene?"
Lu Feng fell into thought after hearing this.
Su Tiannan ignored him and continued walking.
On the dimly lit dirt road, Lu Feng followed behind, pondering the matter. He wasn't stupid. After his failed escape attempt, Master Lu had almost lost all hope, feeling that they were definitely going to kill him to silence him. But he never expected that they would let him go.
Furthermore, Lu Feng had personally seen one of the bandits speaking to Su Tiannan alone, so he suspected that Su Tiannan knew one of the bandits.
However, that didn't mean that Su Tiannan was in cahoots with the bandits, because if that were the case, the bandits would never have taken him hostage in the house.
A chance encounter?
Lu Feng, that old fox, guessed that this was the case. He had been testing Su Tiannan with his words, trying to see if he knew the other party, but the latter didn't take the bait.
Up ahead on the dirt road, Su Tiannan was also furious. The bandits had captured him and then released him, and there was also an eyewitness, Lu Feng, which made him very uncomfortable.
Lu Feng and the Su family had a feud. If this idiot went back and started talking nonsense, it would be really troublesome.
Silence him?
The thought flashed through Su Tiannan's mind, but it was obviously a stupid idea. To risk a murder charge over something without any key evidence would be foolish.
Moreover, Su Tiannan had fought with Master Lu before and knew that only Gou Liuzi could handle him. He wasn't sure he could beat this professor of Buddhism on his own. After all, he was known as the best knife fighter in Zha Nan.
After careful consideration, Su Tiannan suddenly turned back and said to Lu Feng, "Feng-ge, are you still holding a grudge about what happened before?"
"Are you talking nonsense? You got six or seven knife wounds on your head, your ear was chopped off, how could I not hold a grudge?" Lu Feng glared and asked.
Su Tiannan scratched his head upon hearing this. "It was all a misunderstanding!"
"Misunderstanding my ass!" Lu Feng cursed with his hands behind his back. "Would I have ended up in prison if it weren't for you guys? I hate you Su family the most, you've always been bad luck for me!"
"Then you can die!" Seeing that the other party wasn't making any sense, Su Tiannan gave up on trying to communicate with him and strode forward.
Lu Feng watched his back without saying another word.
...
After walking for half an hour, the two flagged down a truck on the roadside.
"Buddy, if you take us into the city, I'll give you two hundred yuan, okay?" Su Tiannan asked, standing by the truck.
"I already told you, it's not on my way! I have to deliver goods!" The driver frowned and urged. "Go away, don't lean on the door, we're leaving!"
It was too difficult to find a car in this desolate place. Su Tiannan immediately replied, "I'll give you five hundred more!"
"Give me a thousand, and I'll take you!" The driver started taking advantage of the situation, puffing on his cigarette.
Lu Feng, whose feet were aching from walking, immediately grabbed the door and got into the back of the truck when he heard this, raising his eyebrows and saying, "Give you a thousand?! What, do you look like a thousand? Are you crazy for money?"
The driver was dumbfounded. He probably had never met someone who spoke so nicely.
"Drive quickly!" Lu Feng urged.
"You this person...!"
"What kind of person am I? What kind of good person would be wandering on a dirt road in the middle of the night?" Lu Feng cursed with an unkind expression. "Hurry up, either go to the crematorium or take us back."
Seeing Lu Feng's fierce face and the scars on his head and ears, the driver immediately became a little nervous. "Okay, let's go then!"
Su Tiannan grabbed the door, got into the car, and sat next to Lu Feng.
"...Damn it, you talk to the driver with civility and politeness? Why do you always threaten me with a cleaver?" Lu Feng curled his lips and cursed. "Worthless!"
Su Tiannan didn't bother talking to him and turned his head to the side.
The car slowly drove towards the city. Lu Feng sat in the back seat, thinking for a long time, and then suddenly said in a low voice, "Go to the police station, and say that they were safe, that's why they...!"
Su Tiannan was stunned and turned to look at him.
"Don't overthink it, I'm not doing this for you, I'm just afraid of trouble," Lu Feng replied in a low voice. "Lao Pang was kidnapped, I have a feeling something big is going to happen. Sigh, your Su family is just a nest of jinxes. Wherever you guys are, nothing good ever happens!"
...
A little after one o'clock in the morning.
The Dragon City was under citywide curfew. After Su Tiannan and Lu Feng returned, they were immediately stopped by the police on the road and taken to the police station.
