Chapter 1086: Going Back?

"I WANNA DO IT, I WANNA DO IT, I WANNA DO IT, I WA-"

Possibility clasped her hand over her sister’s mouth.

"Please. Be. Silent." Possibility said impatiently. "After all of these years, why do you not understand just how clearly sound travels in this place...?"

Life covered her own mouth even with her sister’s hand already over it. She had forgotten this whole thing was supposed to be a secret.

"Oh, right. Quiet...*gasp* We’re like spies! Oh, this is so thrilling!" Life rolled around on the floor, giggling madly to herself.

Possibility was beside herself. She could already see her sister getting her hopes up about this whole thing, and that was the absolute last thing they needed.

"Why do you insist on filling my sister’s heart with false hope? When we last spoke of this, you seemed as though you were still quite unwilling to do what needed to be done?"

Eris had begun to feel slightly uplifted, as things were finally going her way. But that good mood she had been feeling was slowly being replaced with dread once more.

"What are you talking about?? What is she not willing to do??" Life asked impatiently.

Possibility let out an exasperated sigh.

"For you, or I, to live our lives, we would need proper vessels. Eris here shares a particular ability where she can merge with the women she married. There are enough of them for us to both achieve symbiosis with them."

Life’s eyes became filled with litter and fireworks. They spilled over onto the floor and threatened to submerge Eris.

"But she is unwilling to take this necessary step because she knows they will be unable to separate once everything is done."

There was silence for a long time as Life sat and processed the things she had been told.

Eventually, her jovial mood was discarded as well.

*Sniff, sniff...* "That’s.... that’s so sad!"

Life threw her head back and wept in dismay like a stage-trained actor.

"Two lovers, achieving the highest form of intimacy that there can be, and yet they will be-"

"Actually, there’s tweve of us.."

"Oh my. Busy girl." Life whistled, impressed.

Eris was sure that if she were able, she would have been blushing right around now.

Life continued her sad monologue, even going so far as to hang off her sister’s body like a depressed squirrel.

"ALAS!! Fate is so unkind to these beautiful lovers! It is a grand travesty of which has scarcely been seen throughout..."

Life suddenly cut her dialogue short.

She sat back on the floor with a sort of distant look in her eye. Eris realized that this was the first time she had seen her stay in place for longer than a few seconds.

"...Oh, wait. This sucks. Why don’t we just do something different?"

Possibility didn’t know if she was capable of getting angry, but she could certainly become short on patience.

And her sister was quite adept at hitting her limits.

"...As you know, when we synthesize with the women, we will be them and they will be us. They will be permanently fused together and-"

"Okay, but like, what if they weren’t?"

"They will be."

"But what if they weren’t?"

"It is the way."

"What if it wasn’t?"

"Life!"

"Muah." Life kissed her sister on the cheek. An act that was rare, since Egoless do not necessarily receive acts of physical affection from one another.

For a moment, possibility’s highly functioning brain sputtered out. But only for a few seconds.

"What is the meaning of this..?"

"Affection is for affirmation and sometimes coercion!" Life said matter-of-factly.

"I’m aware of what it’s for. Why did you give it to me?"

"Because I want you to do what I say!"

"The odds of that happening are-"

"My word, put down your calculations for just a minute and listen!" Life fussed.

A look passed between the two. Eris had observed enough couples in her time to know what a side conversation looked like. She was just perplexed, because this was the first time she had seen such a thing take place between beings above gods.

"No." Possibility finally said.

Life started to fall on the floor again. "But why notttt...??"

"Because what you’re proposing isn’t practical. And it kicks a problem down the line that we will no doubt have to address later. It’s better to deal with it now and-"

"I am in favor of kicking the can down the road." Eris suddenly said.

Possibility frowned. "You do not get a vo-"

"Yes, she does, and I’m voting along with her, that makes this 2-1 and you’re outvoted!" Life sprang up gleefully.

"T-Three if we count Oblivion.." Eris murmured.

Life gasped audibly. "He’s involved in this too...?" She asked, her eyes turning glittery once again. "This. Is. So. COOL!"

The super-spy antics that she had always witnessed but never taken part in were finally unfolding right before her! Such boundless opportunity!

"Oh, please, sister!! We have to try it once at least! I’ll beg!"

"Do not debase yourself."

"Pride is a mortal social construct. I do not mind physically lowering myself if it means you will heed my genius!"

"’Genius’ does not apply to us. I contain all mortal and immortal knowledge as do you."

"I forget that stuff on purpose. Makes things boring." Life shrugged.

That feeling of hope had begun to bubble within Eris’ chest again. She knew that the sisters just needed one final push.

"I understand that I may be asking a great deal of you both, but I am truly desperate. If you can find some way to anoint my wives and me without us needing to lose each other, then I can assure you that you will not regret it!"

Needless to say, Life was already sufficiently convinced. Now, it was just a matter of getting through to Possibility.

On the surface, the ancient being didn’t seem any closer to being persuaded than she did when this conversation first began. That troubled Eris greatly.

Life shuffled forward and took one of her sister’s hands in her own.

She placed her sister’s palm onto her cheek softly. Her eyes were filled with a soft, pink light.

"Please, sister... You deserve a break. We both do."

Possibility’s lip quivered as she remained silent.

"I know you want to know what it’s like. To rest. To play. To indulge. We have an opportunity now to enjoy all of that, and more."

Possibility looked away, falling silent. Life continued her assault.

"We can do cocaine, sister..! Cocaineee..!"

"I will not do recreational narcotic drugs with you." Possibility finally said.

"A-And I would also really prefer if you didn’t do that with my wife’s body..." Eris chimed in.

Life tilted her head. "What about xangraxinus powder?"

"Is that an alien equivalent of human cocaine?"

""Yes.""

"Then also no, please. But you can drink as much alcohol as you want."

Eris had no idea just how much she would come to regret those words later.

"...If we do this..." Possibility began. "We have to be careful. We must be secretive about what we are. You must use the power we give you as sparingly as possible."

Eris’ breath was caught in her throat. She felt her hope building.

Possibility leaned down and poked her.

Eris felt something rush into her body, electric and uncomfortable at first.

When the discomfort passed, she realized that she suddenly felt whole again. No longer just a few scraps of soul, she appeared as a green ethereal version of her usual self. She hoped that this was a good sign.

"I promise, we will not disappoint you. This will be your salvation as well as ours."

Possibility reached for her head and stuck her hand inside her skull.

She pulled out something that looked like a small, orange seed. A spec of consciousness.

Eris expected her to place the seed inside her head, but she went for her chest instead.

When the seed was inserted, Eris felt the seed lay down roots inside of her, but it did not bloom. Eris was curious about why.

"Oh my word, it’s happening!" Life said giddily. "I’m so excited, I’m so excited, I’m so exciteddd..!"

Life repeated Eris’ actions, but this time she placed the seed in her hands instead of her soul.

"Give that to your other darlings for me, dear. Make sure they’re beautiful, all of my stories say that unattractive people have a harder time in mortal domains."

Eris had absolutely no idea what she was supposed to say to that. She wondered if denying it would give Life a set of false expectations.

"When I give them this, what exactly is going to happen to-"

"Op." Life placed a finger on Eris’ lips. "You’ve got what you want now, so don’t be greedy. Just sit back and watch how things play out, little soul."

Eris wasn’t satisfied with that answer. But what else could she do?

Thanks to Life, this entire fiasco had gone a lot easier. She couldn’t press her for more and risk jeopardizing everything.

She was going back with their approval. Their annointing. That had to be more than enough.

"Forgive my discourtesy." Eris bowed.

"Oh my. So mannerable." Life giggled. "Think nothing of it. Now, let’s see here..."

The Egoless took the soul into her hand and snapped her fingers.

The entire floof vanished all at once.

From there, Eris could see millions of things she couldn’t process. But what she did notice was the impossibly large sea of Aeons floating in an endless starry abyss.

"Now, which of these little Aeons is yours, hm?" Life asked.

Eris couldn’t even begin to answer that. She could search for 50 billion years and still be no closer to picking out Yesh.

Just as she started to ask if his name would help narrow the search down, Possibility tapped her sister on the shoulder and said something telepathically.

Unlike before, this time Eris actually heard it.

’The one Worldjoiner is currently on course for.’

Life’s eyebrows twitched a bit. "Oh, that’s... unfortunate. Oh well then!"

Before Eris could ask who this person was supposed to be, she was suddenly hurled like a fastball into a random direction.
