Regret youthful ignorance
Chapter 50 Recruitment
Chen Luo was pleasantly surprised rather than alarmed, as this signified that Dharma King had reached Level Three.
With each level advancement, strength practically increased exponentially.
Dharma King was likely the second entity in the world to reach Level Three, besides Chen Luo.
With Dharma King's agility and speed, one dog could easily take on dozens of Level One awakened individuals.
Mi Li and Su Dazhu would need at least another week to advance to Level Three.
The next day.
Leaving the home they had lived in for over a decade, Mi Ling and Mi Li were reluctant, but Chen Luo had spoken, deeming the place unsuitable, and they had no choice but to move.
Chen Luo chose the location of his family's original villa district.
There were no high-rise buildings nearby, offering an unobstructed view.
The entire villa district could house the force he intended to build.
The southernmost part of the district was connected to a mountain, allowing for retreat in the event of a zombie tide.
The location was excellent, but as more survivors sought refuge, they would inevitably covet this place.
But was Chen Luo afraid?
Coming here would just be delivering crystals.
Initially, only small groups, a dozen or a few dozen people at most, would come to cause trouble, which Chen Luo could easily handle.
After a period of development, with Chen Luo's knowledge and resources, his strength would far surpass others.
To Chen Luo's slight surprise, his semi-truck was still there, but annoyingly, the fuel had been stolen.
Fortunately, Chen Luo had some spare oil in his ability space.
Chen Luo hadn't hoarded much oil, as it was easy to collect and became less useful in the later stages; having enough was sufficient.
The cab of the semi-truck, having been unused for days, had a broken window and was covered in a layer of dust.
After a quick cleanup, everyone boarded the semi-truck, which would soon only be used for hauling goods.
The idea of using the semi-truck to ram survivors was out of the question; no one was foolish enough to let that happen.
They rammed the zombies they could on the road, but with roadblocks slowing the semi-truck, Chen Luo had Su Dazhu, Mi Ling, and the others get out to kill zombies and collect crystals.
The lowest-level crystals were useless to Chen Luo, but they were still useful to Su Dazhu and the others; they still needed these crystals before the zombies evolved to Level One.
Chen Luo didn't intervene, letting Mi Ling and the others get more training.
As they approached a bend, a sorrowful cry suddenly reached Chen Luo's ears.
"Brother Fang, please, leave us, run!"
"Stop talking nonsense, we live or die together!"
After advancing to Level Four, Chen Luo's eyesight far surpassed that of ordinary people.
Chen Luo looked and saw three pale-faced, slow-moving young men struggling to evade the pursuit of five or six zombies.
Chen Luo was taken aback; had they been attacked by poison-type zombies?
If so, they were only Level One poison-type zombies, otherwise these three young men would have already been paralyzed.
There were four young men in total; the remaining one was wielding a rubber club, fighting to the death.
Judging by his appearance, he had also been poisoned, but he was likely a strength-type awakened individual with some immunity to Level One toxins.
He could have abandoned his three companions to feed the zombies and escaped.
Just then, the person called Brother Fang saw Chen Luo passing by, and a look of joy emerged on his desperate face.
He shouted, "Big brother, if you can, please save us! Fang Yu will definitely repay this great kindness!"
Chen Luo calmly said, "Alright."
Chen Luo opened the car door and released Dharma King.
Open the door, release the dog.
Under normal circumstances, it was none of Chen Luo's business, but Chen Luo admired Fang Yu's loyalty and spirit; he could have run, but he didn't.
This reminded Chen Luo of the scene when Su Dazhu sacrificed himself for him in his previous life.
And clearly, Su Dazhu also admired the other man, taking the initiative to get out of the car to help.
But there was nothing for Su Dazhu to do; Dharma King, upon exiting the car, quickly dealt with the five zombies, leaving Fang Yu and the others dumbfounded.
The poison-type zombie was nowhere to be seen; low-level poison-type zombies could only spray poison at close range, so it must have been dealt with by Fang Yu and the others.
Su Dazhu helped Fang Yu support his injured friends.
Fang Yu came to the semi-truck window, bowed deeply to Chen Luo, and choked out, "Thank you, thank you for saving us. I'm not good with words, but feel free to ask if you ever need anything."
Thinking of something, Chen Luo asked with interest, "How many of you are there? What happened?"
Fang Yu naturally wouldn't hide anything: "There are four of us; we're from the same security company, comrades for many years. We came out today to find some supplies; it seemed like a sure thing, but we didn't expect to encounter a zombie that could spray poison, and we almost all died."
Many of Fang Yu's comrades had joined the same security company after retiring from the military, but after the apocalypse, only the four of them remained, making their already precious camaraderie even more treasured.
Chen Luo turned to Mi Li and said, "Mi Li, go down and heal them."
Originally, it would take these three poisoned men at least ten days to half a month to recover, but with Mi Li's treatment, although they were still a bit weak, they had already improved a lot.
Fang Yu was even more grateful and surprised; this group had astonishing strength.
This dog that got out of the car seemed capable of wiping them all out easily; was it really just a dog?
A few bolts of lightning effortlessly annihilated several zombies.
And this young girl, was she a priest?
Especially Chen Luo; although his face was young and he wore a faint smile, he was the leader of this group, giving Fang Yu a sense of unfathomable depth.
Chen Luo smiled lightly and said, "There's strength in numbers; how about we form a team? Of course, I'm the leader."
Chen Luo was short on manpower, and these four looked quite pleasing to the eye and had high qualities; why not recruit them?
Fang Yu had just witnessed the strength of Chen Luo's group; comparing themselves to Chen Luo, they were not even on the same level.
This was a lifeline.
Even if Chen Luo hadn't saved their lives, forming a team with someone like this would provide a great guarantee of safety.
Fang Yu couldn't think of a reason to refuse.
Fang Yu looked back at his three brothers, none of whom objected, and immediately clasped his fist at Chen Luo.
"Thank you for thinking highly of us and for saving our lives. If we refused, we would be ungrateful."
Chen Luo smiled: "Get in the back of the truck. Are there any things you need to retrieve from your previous base? Don't bother with anything that isn't important; there's plenty on the streets and in the malls."
Although he found these few people quite pleasing to the eye, Chen Luo wouldn't reveal the secret of his space to anyone who wasn't a core member.
Fang Yu shook his head.
