Chapter 1381: Angry with the Doctor

Chapter 1381: Chapter 1381: Angry with the Doctor

"Dr. Griffiths, I’m feeling a bit unwell today and would like to request a leave," Atra Blanc said, "Could someone else go first..."

"Feeling a bit unwell?" The doctor frowned, looking displeased, "Who’s going to care whether you’re comfortable when you’re at work? What if there’s a surgery going on now? What if someone’s life needs saving now? When faced with difficulties, the first thought should be how to overcome them. Stop making excuses right away. Today you’re unwell, tomorrow she’s unwell — how about everyone takes leave, then? Is there still work to be done? I see that you nurses are just too delicate; as soon as it’s time to work, you start saying you’re unwell."

Atra Blanc was chastised to the point where she couldn’t look up, feeling extremely embarrassed.

The doctor said coldly, "After handling the discharge formalities for bed 12, remember to remove the sheets and mattress, and take them to the cleaning room for disinfection."

Atra Blanc pursed her lips and nodded slightly, "Understood."

Once the doctor left, Atra Blanc’s colleague couldn’t hold it in any longer and stood up for her, "That Frank Griffiths is so despicable! There are so many nurses in our hospital, but he’s fixated on ordering you around! He acts all justified! Everyone knows he’s doing this because he holds a grudge after you rejected his advances; his heart is littler than a pinhole! Benevolent and skillful my foot!"

Atra Blanc sighed, "Forget it, he’s a doctor... He needs us nurses to cooperate for work, it’s not good to refuse..."

"Are you just going to let him bully you like that?" Her colleague grabbed her arm, "Don’t be silly. Once you’ve taken leave, just go. What’s he going to do about it? If he can’t find you, he’ll naturally call on another nurse to do those tasks."

"Ah, he’s just venting; he’ll be fine once he’s done. If he doesn’t get it out, it’ll just go on and on." Atra Blanc sighed, "Don’t worry, I know how to handle it."

Her colleague scoffed, "You, your temper is just too good."

Atra Blanc smiled lightly and waved her hand, "Let’s not talk about it anymore. I’m heading over now, or else he’ll come over and scold people again."

Being a nurse is like this; you constantly face pressure — pressure from doctors, pressure from patients. Many girls who initially take up nursing find they can’t persist after a few years and switch to another profession.

Atra Blanc chose this profession because she genuinely likes it.

Since childhood, she loved taking care of others. Medical skills in her family were passed down only to males, so while her cousins played hopscotch in the yard, she was serving tea to patients at the medical clinic, delivering medicinal materials, and packing herbs. Even if she didn’t learn medical skills, simply doing odd jobs made her happy.

Atra Blanc had been bustling around the hospital the entire day. That Dr. Griffiths was truly persistent; as soon as he saw Atra Blanc had a bit of free time, he’d promptly find tasks for her, so much so that she didn’t even get to eat lunch, and by the time work was over, she was starving as if her stomach was sticking to her back.

After changing out of her nurse’s uniform, Atra Blanc grabbed her bag and hurried out.

She was hoping she’d run into someone selling grilled sweet potatoes on the way; she was too hungry to wait till home for dinner, just wanting to eat something quickly to fill her stomach.

"Atra Blanc!"

A familiar shout rang in her ears like a haunting echo, and Atra Blanc couldn’t help but twitch her mouth as she slowly turned around to see Frank Griffiths, also off work.

"Let’s go together, I happen to be off work too." Frank Griffiths said, walking beside her.

No way to refuse...

There’s only one way out of the hospital.

Atra Blanc managed a smile, silently walking with him outside.

"You said you felt unwell today, are you feeling better now?" Dr. Griffiths asked with concern, his attitude almost a complete turnaround.

Atra Blanc replied softly, "A bit better."

"Was I too harsh in the morning?" Dr. Griffiths asked, "Atra Blanc, you’re not upset with me, are you?"

"Well... I understand you’re just focused on work."

"I’m glad you’re not upset with me." Dr. Griffiths said sincerely, "I know that recently I’ve been pretty strict with you, but really, it’s because I genuinely care for you... The hospital will select a batch of excellent medical personnel to send elsewhere for training, everyone is under evaluation. You understand what I mean, right?"
