Chapter 1406: Chapter 1406: Because He Deserves to Be Hit

During four years of university, Clyde Summers never came back.

After graduation, he went abroad to continue studying finance and never even made a call home.

His son not returning home had become Old Master Summers’ constant worry, with feelings of guilt, blame, and hidden pain accumulating over time, gradually weakening him.

Atra Blanc accompanied him on walks in the garden, looking at the flowers and trees, feeding the koi in the lake—these activities slightly alleviated the burden in his chest.

After staying for a long time, the villa felt too large and cold, so she simply asked the craftsmen to build a house in the garden. It didn’t need to be big but should have plenty of sunlight and fresh air, where opening the windows would present a blue sky and clear lake.

In the following days, Atra Blanc stayed with Old Master Summers in the small villa, enjoying a leisurely life as if secluded in the forest.

These years, Clearwater City developed rapidly; trains constantly accelerated, and a grand airport was constructed.

She carried mixed cat food to feed the stray cats near the garden’s back gate, as a plane flew overhead, leaving a long white trail.

She looked up, and suddenly a vibrant youthful voice echoed in her mind: “This isn’t wishful thinking; it’s called foresight… Times are constantly progressing…”

“Atra!” A sharp female voice suddenly rang out.

She turned her head and saw Janelle Roberts leading two little boys of about five or six years old towards her.

“Look at what your son has done!” Janelle Roberts pushed Alexander Summers forward into Atra Blanc’s arms, “He was too harsh! Look at what he did to my Nathaniel!”

Both children’s faces were marked, Nathaniel Summers evidently worse off, with scratches from nails on his face, forming a thin scab of blood.

Atra Blanc squatted down, gently picked the grass out of Alexander’s hair, and asked softly, “Alexander, why did you hit Nathaniel?”

Alexander replied, “Because he deserved it.”

Janelle Roberts’ eyebrows instantly raised, “How do you teach your child?! Listen to what he’s saying!”

Atra Blanc was also taken aback, her smile fading as she addressed her son, “Alexander, quickly apologize to your third brother.”

The little boy was very stubborn, turning his face away, “I am not at fault! He said I am a child without a father, so he deserved to be hit!”

Atra Blanc was stunned and then looked at Janelle Roberts.

Children wouldn’t say such things without reason; they must have overheard something from adults.

Janelle Roberts’ expression turned awkward, feeling the embarrassment of being caught gossiping behind someone’s back.

Atra Blanc furrowed her brows and seriously said to Janelle Roberts, “Madam, how can you teach a child to say such things? If you are dissatisfied with me, you can tell me directly. You should not spread groundless rumors, especially considering that it might corrupt the third young master if he hears such words.”

“Why are you pretending? Your false innocence—who are you trying to impress…” Janelle Roberts gave her a disdainful glance and mumbled, “It’s dressed up as artificial insemination, but who knows what filthy secrets lie behind it.”

After speaking, she picked up her son and turned away: “Let’s go; don’t play with such dubious little ruffians in the future.”

Janelle Roberts didn’t believe Atra Blanc had gone through artificial insemination; she was sure Atra Blanc’s child was an illegitimate child.

Others might be unaware, but Janelle Roberts personally underwent artificial insemination in the United States, fully understanding the entire process, from sperm storage to physical checks.

At the time, this was an emerging technology, just starting in the country, with only two or three qualified institutions nationwide, with not-so-high success rates.

Moreover, Atra Blanc had always been in Clearwater before she became pregnant, with her only trip being to a relatively small city. Hence, it was impossible for her to have undergone artificial insemination.

Janelle Roberts despised Atra Blanc while finding schadenfreude: the old fool had really gotten bewitched by this vixen, unknowingly wearing the green hat himself!
