Chapter 76
As he dragged Zhao Mengmeng in, some maids nearby subtly watched, pretending to work but clearly eavesdropping. One sharp-eyed maid spotted the whole thing and rushed off. Before long, a group of maids gathered and whispered among themselves:
“Did you see? Miss Bai went into Mr. Lin’s room…”
“Then Miss Shang and Miss Zhao showed up too…”
“I heard when we told them Bai Bing’er was inside, both their faces went dark.”
“So… they’re all into Lin Tian?”
“Shh! Don’t gossip…”
“What do you think is happening in that room right now?”
“You go listen!”
“No way! Forget it, back to work!”
None of them noticed an older man in a butler’s uniform walking past.
Had Jiang Yifeng been there, he’d recognize this man, the same one who greeted him when he first arrived at the castle.
This old butler ranked just below the castle’s mistress and her daughter. In other words: very high up. He listened silently for a while, then left without a word. Soon after, he knocked on Xuan Yuan Qingya’s bedroom door.
“Who is it?” she asked coldly.
“It’s me, Miss,” the butler replied.
She opened the door, puzzled. “Uncle Zhong? Has dinner started?”
He shook his head and chuckled. “No, not yet. But I just overheard some chatter from the villa. It’s about Mr. Lin. Thought you might be interested.”
Uncle Zhong had watched Qingya grow up. During lunch, he had definitely noticed her glancing at Lin Tian a few times. Whether she wanted to know or not was up to her. But whether he told her, that was on him.
She frowned. “Lin Tian?”
“Yes, something about him.”
She thought for a moment and called back into the room: “Xiao Xue, wait for me here. I’ll be back soon.”
“Okay, Qingya,” came the soft reply.
Back in Lin Tian’s room, the atmosphere was thick with tension. Bai Bing’er sat lazily on the bed, red dress soaked, towel in hand, casually drying her hair. She looked completely at ease. After telling Lin Tian how she felt, she clearly didn’t care about the drama.
Shang Chan, on the other hand, stood in front of her, furious, red-eyed, and ready to cry. Anyone watching might think this was a dramatic cheating confrontation.
Zhao Mengmeng, meanwhile, was still crying as Lin Tian held her.
Lin Tian, stuck in the middle, felt his brain short-circuiting.
Why did Bai Bing’er even come here? Why were the other two crying and yelling the moment they saw it? I’m not even dating any of them!!
Then, as the door closed, Bai Bing’er smiled faintly and said: “Shang Chan, Zhao Mengmeng… if you two want something, then fight for it. I will too. Let’s not hide behind silly excuses.”
She turned to Lin Tian, her eyes gentle and sincere. “Thank you for everything today. I’m sorry for barging in… I got a little carried away.”
At least you know, Lin Tian thought.
But he couldn’t really blame her. For all her impulsiveness, she was always true to herself and that earned his respect.
“No worries,” he said politely. “But you should probably go dry off before you catch a cold.”
Bai Bing’er blushed, nodded, and stood up. She looked down slightly at Shang Chan and said, “I’d like to talk with you sometime, just the two of us. After we leave the Xuan Yuan estate?”
Shang Chan was silent for a moment, then nodded coldly. She’d actually wanted to talk to Bai Bing’er anyway. They were both leads in this twisted drama, and in the war against Jiang Yifeng, maybe allies.
With a faint smile, Bai Bing’er opened the door and left.
Now it was just Lin Tian… with two very upset sisters glaring at him.
Just as one storm ended, two more were brewing. He was already missing Bai Bing’er.
