Lord of Illusions City
Chapter 373 Not Enough Drivers!
Upon hearing that the previous hundred people hadn't gone to the sewer base but had instead crossed the city directly to Henry Town, starting to clear it and preparing to build a new home there, cheers erupted on the warship. They finally saw hope.
"Li! I have an idea. I don't know if it'll work!"
After ordering the others to prepare to leave, Tony found Li Chenzhou and said.
"Speak!"
Li Chenzhou looked at Tony.
"Last time, we didn't encounter any zombies. According to your guess, maybe there won't be any zombies today either. So, I think we should just go big!"
Tony pointed to the cargo ships in the distance.
"Those ships have a lot of cargo, much of which is useful to us. And there are enough transport trucks at the dock. So, why don't we just drive away all the large transport trucks, each fully loaded? That way, even if everyone in the city goes to the town, these supplies will be enough for us to last a year or two."
"How many large transport trucks are here?"
Li Chenzhou frowned and asked after thinking for a moment.
"Hundreds, maybe even thousands!"
Tony said, "There are three to four hundred container trucks alone. If you count all types of trucks, we could probably gather two or three thousand!"
"That many?"
Li Chenzhou gasped.
If all these trucks could be transported, it would indeed be great. Henry Town only has a dozen or so buildings. Although these buildings are large, it's still unlikely they can accommodate so many survivors who are about to arrive!
So, either they have to find other places to divert people, or they have to find a way to expand Henry Town.
With these trucks and the resources on the cargo ships, expansion would barely be possible, but this wouldn't benefit Li Chenzhou much.
Li Chenzhou wasn't going to stay here. He was thinking of getting everyone to Henry Town and then taking people to the city center to see if they could solve the zombie horde there. If they couldn't, he would have to find a way to recruit some people, get a warship, and prepare to go home!
So, from this perspective, the construction of Henry Town had nothing to do with Li Chenzhou. According to his plan, he just wanted to transfer everyone to Henry Town in batches of two or three vehicles each time.
If he accepted Tony's suggestion, it would be a bit risky. Although they didn't encounter zombies last time, and Li Chenzhou felt that the guy controlling the zombie horde was brewing something big, what if the zombies appeared again?
Two or three thousand trucks, if all driven out, would definitely require one person per truck. How long would the convoy be, and how much noise would it make?
If zombies were attracted, Li Chenzhou wouldn't be able to protect the convoy. Even with him, Gray Bear, and Mike, they couldn't protect more than a few trucks even if they risked their lives. At that time, the entire convoy might be wiped out.
Therefore, Tony's suggestion was too risky for Li Chenzhou. He looked at the expectant Tony and gently shook his head.
"Tony, if we do that, the risk is too high. You're completely gambling with these people's lives! Do you know how long a convoy of two thousand vehicles would be?
I can't protect such a long convoy. Once the zombie horde appears, it will definitely be wiped out, do you understand?
We didn't see any zombies before, but Mike said that the first time we returned to the underground base from Henry Town, we didn't see any zombies along the way either, but when we reached the base entrance, the zombie horde suddenly appeared!
We don't know where the zombie horde is hiding, and we don't know if they are watching us. We didn't encounter zombies before, probably because we had fewer vehicles and a smaller target, so they didn't move.
But if we really organize a large convoy and cross the entire city, what are the chances that you can guarantee that zombies won't appear? Is it worth gambling with human lives for those supplies?
And even if you want to gamble, do you think they would be willing?"
"This…"
Li Chenzhou said a lot. Gray Bear translated for a long time before Tony finally understood. He couldn't help but hesitate and turned to look at the survivors…
"Okay! I understand!"
Tony nodded somewhat dejectedly and prepared to leave!
"Tony! If you really want to bring supplies over, you can first organize people to load the goods onto the trucks and prepare them. At least, we can choose to bring two more trucks with us each time to transport important supplies to the town."
Seeing the unwilling Tony, Li Chenzhou stopped him and said after thinking for a moment, "As for the others, since they're already loaded, we can transport them back little by little if there's a chance in the future!"
"Okay! I'll go do it right away!"
Hearing Li Chenzhou's words, Tony's eyes lit up, and he ran to call people.
"Boss! Are you really planning to help him move all the goods over there?"
Watching Tony leave, Gray Bear asked.
"As much as possible! I need to know what kind of monster is hiding in this city!"
Li Chenzhou said, "As for the goods here… I will definitely not risk people's lives. I still need them to help me operate the warship!"
"It's good that you still remember that!"
Gray Bear nodded.
Soon, Tony returned again, pointing below and saying, "Li! I've already arranged it. This time, you take five vehicles back, two buses to carry people, and two container trucks to carry goods! Plus your off-road vehicle! I'll stay here to organize them to load the trucks!"
"No need, forget the off-road vehicle, replace it with a truck!"
Li Chenzhou shook his head.
He had been driving this off-road vehicle because it had been modified to sound an alarm. Now that he was going to bring more trucks back, he might as well leave it here. Anyway, he didn't plan to sound the alarm all the way across the city!
"That's great!"
Tony was overjoyed to hear this. Although it was just a truck, it was a container truck, which could carry a lot of resources!
"Okay! Then we'll leave first. You take care of things here!"
Li Chenzhou nodded and then jumped onto the first truck. He, Gray Bear, and Mike would definitely not be drivers. They had to be on the truck bed to guard against zombies that might appear at any time!
"Quick! Unload all the goods from the ship, load them all onto the trucks, whether they're useful or not! You, go collect trucks, bring all of them here!"
Seeing Li Chenzhou leave with a few vehicles, Tony quickly gave orders loudly, directing everyone to start loading the goods from the cargo ship and warehouse onto the trucks. However, he didn't seem to realize that although Li Chenzhou told him to load the trucks first, only a few of these trucks would be able to drive away.
Tony overlooked one thing: trucks are not Transformers; they need drivers. Following Li Chenzhou's model of two buses and three trucks, he didn't have enough drivers…
