Lord of Illusions City
Chapter 91 Entering the War Preparation Office
The armory didn't look like a place where weapons and equipment were stored. It looked more like an abandoned factory building, which suited its current location on the edge of the city!
A fence barely taller than a person surrounded the six-story building. The yard was full of weeds, and the guardhouse was empty. Even the barrier arm was raised.
Inside the yard, Li Chenzhou didn't see any urban armored vehicles, not even a bicycle. Instead, two zombies wandered around.
Seeing the somewhat dilapidated armory, Li Chenzhou didn't look disappointed. Places like armories naturally needed some camouflage so that they wouldn't be identified as strategic targets for aerial strikes when war came.
"Do you know how to get in?"
Li Chenzhou asked the Gray Bear beside him, who was still a little angry because of what he had said earlier.
"Just go in through the main entrance!"
Seeing that there was finally something Li Chenzhou didn't know, a hint of pride appeared on Gray Bear's face.
"Then lead the way! Hurry, maybe we can see the Qin Ting Hotel in a few hours."
Li Chenzhou looked at Gray Bear and said.
"What?"
Hearing Li Chenzhou's words, Gray Bear was stunned for a moment, then overjoyed.
Li Chenzhou had originally planned to clear zombies all the way, but now that he had met Luo Hong and the others, he didn't need to do that anymore, because Luo Hong and his team had already cleared the blocked overpass.
Luo Hong and his team had come from the shopping mall, which was very close to the hotel, so Li Chenzhou only needed to follow the road they had taken. The road traveled by such a large team was basically free of hidden dangers. The only thing to worry about was mutated beasts.
Mutated beasts weren't like zombies; they had a sense of danger, especially newly mutated beasts. They generally wouldn't attack such a large convoy. But for Li Chenzhou and his group, it was hard to say.
However, Li Chenzhou wasn't too afraid of mutated beasts, so he decided to go directly to the hotel along the road Luo Hong and his team had taken.
Because Li Chenzhou also wanted to know how terrifying this powerful zombie king, who had appeared at the beginning of the apocalypse, really was.
Li Chenzhou's words undoubtedly gave Gray Bear a strong motivation. He immediately walked to the front, even temporarily forgetting his fear of mutated beasts.
Because he was afraid that the gunfire would attract the thirty or so nearby zombies, the two wandering zombies that rushed over after seeing the living were directly smashed to death by Li Chenzhou with his staff. For him now, ordinary zombies numbering less than fifty posed no threat at all.
Gray Bear didn't go through the door but came to a window. Then he pulled out his gun and smashed the window with the butt of the gun. Then he turned his head to look at Li Chenzhou.
"Let's go in from here!"
"It's just ordinary glass?"
Li Chenzhou asked in surprise.
"Yes! Because using bulletproof glass would expose this place if someone found out. No dilapidated office building would install bulletproof glass!"
Gray Bear said,
"However, if it were peacetime, the alarm system would be activated as soon as this glass was broken, and the images here would be transmitted in real-time. It wouldn't take five minutes for this place to be surrounded. Of course, we don't need to worry about that now. The only thing we need to worry about is the people inside."
As he spoke, Gray Bear cleared the broken glass from the window and then climbed in.
"I am Gray Bear, a member of the Qishi Special Task Force One! Is anyone still alive?"
After entering, Gray Bear pushed open the door and walked out, shouting loudly. His voice echoed in the empty corridor, but there was no response.
Li Chenzhou and Luo Hong also climbed in and followed behind Gray Bear. Luo Hong was originally holding a short knife about a foot long, but after Li Chenzhou smashed the two zombies to death with his long staff, he put the knife away.
Gray Bear walked and shouted all the way, quickly arriving at the stairs. Just then, three zombies suddenly rushed out from below and pounced on Gray Bear.
"Puff, puff, puff!"
Li Chenzhou, who was behind Gray Bear, immediately stepped forward. His staff moved three times, killing all three zombies. Gray Bear then squatted down with a solemn expression and examined the three corpses.
The clothes these three people were wearing were different from Gray Bear's, but the colors were similar, and they also had military ranks on their shoulders.
"What's wrong?"
Li Chenzhou asked, looking at Gray Bear's frown.
"Opening the armory and the exit requires sufficient authority. Hopefully, not everyone with authority has mutated!"
Gray Bear said as he stepped towards the stairs leading down. The armory was underground. The building above was just for disguise.
There was only one floor below, and the space wasn't large. It looked a bit like a warehouse, but there was nothing inside. It was empty, dark, and damp. There was even a small lamp on the ceiling, but it wasn't very bright, making the place look quite dim.
Seeing this lamp, Li Chenzhou finally confirmed that this place was unusual, because the power had been cut off long ago. No matter how dim this lamp was, it was enough to prove that this building had automatic power generation equipment.
Gray Bear turned his head to look around the warehouse, then came to a wall, took out his ID, opened it, and said to the wall:
"I am Gray Bear, a member of the Qishi Special Task Force One, number 007382. My captain is Li Yunshan, codename Shanying (Mountain Eagle). I need help! Requesting access to the armory!"
After speaking, Gray Bear stopped talking, but the hand holding his ID remained raised.
"I am Liu Yuanming, Deputy Director of the Qing City Special Task Force Armory. Soldier, why are you here?"
After about a minute, the opposite wall responded. It was a disguised electronic voice that couldn't even distinguish between male and female.
"Report to the chief! Our team was ordered to enter Qing City to carry out a capture mission, codename: Return. The operation was originally scheduled to begin at zero hour today, but... last night, when we were preparing to act at the Qin Ting Hotel, we encountered an unknown situation. The captain and others were trapped in the Qin Ting Hotel in order to rescue survivors. I am here to request support!"
Gray Bear replied immediately.
The other side fell silent again. This time, it only took about ten seconds before the wall slid open, revealing a brightly lit corridor.
Gray Bear immediately turned his head, waved at Li Chenzhou, and then took the lead in walking in. Li Chenzhou and Luo Hong immediately followed, and then the wall silently returned to its original position.
Compared to the outside, this corridor was a completely different world. The floor was all tiled, and the lighting was very bright. Although it was underground, it was as bright as day. However, this corridor was very short, only about ten meters long.
Gray Bear seemed very familiar with the place and went straight to the end of the corridor, then turned right. In front of him was a solid iron door. Behind the door was a room of about one hundred square meters.
At this time, the iron door was open. In the room, a person in military uniform was sitting on a chair. On the table in front of him was a corpse, also wearing the same uniform…
