Lord of Illusions City
Chapter 24 Ways to Hunt Zombies
Although the apocalypse was the world of zombies, for the zombies themselves, this was also a brand new world. Therefore, on the first day of the apocalypse, the zombies were still relatively restrained and hadn't completely let loose.
They wandered around in small areas surrounding themselves, and wouldn't easily stray far, unless attracted by prey, in which case they would chase frantically at all costs.
Under Li Chenzhou's arrangement, he led the way with Baozi and Grey Bear, while Duan Lei and Duan Xue followed about five meters behind them. Moreover, Grey Bear was even carrying a zombie corpse on his shoulder.
"I'm an assault, fast, agile, and good at mid-to-close range shooting. Grey Bear is also an assault, but he's very strong. In addition to his accurate shooting, he's also very good at close combat! No one in our team can beat him one-on-one!"
As they walked, Baozi whispered about his and Grey Bear's combat characteristics. Although it was a temporary combination, Li Chenzhou wanted to understand their abilities first.
Hearing Baozi's words, Li Chenzhou couldn't help but turn his head to look at "Mr. Why," that goofball was actually so strong? He hadn't noticed.
"Situation!"
Grey Bear didn't notice Li Chenzhou's gaze, because he had been cautiously watching the front. After leaving the hotel, this guy seemed to have changed completely. Not only did he talk less, but his expression had also become quite serious.
And now, he was the first to spot the zombies ahead—Li Chenzhou had naturally seen them too, but he didn't issue a warning.
About a hundred meters ahead of them was a small residential area located on the side of the street. The first floor of the building facing the street had been converted into shops. Six or seven zombies were currently crowded in front of the ramen shop on the left, the second one from the end, banging on the closed metal gate while roaring, making a rattling sound.
"Someone must be trapped inside! Otherwise, the zombies wouldn't be gathered there."
Baozi frowned and then raised the rifle in his hand, turning to look at Li Chenzhou:
"Should we save them?"
"What do you think?"
Li Chenzhou turned to look at Grey Bear.
"Baozi's gun doesn't have a silencer, so we can't use it here. That's the entrance to the residential area, and there must be a lot of zombies inside. Once the gun goes off, we'll be facing more than just these few."
Grey Bear remained noncommittal, simply pointing to the entrance of the residential area to their left.
Li Chenzhou didn't answer. He turned back and waved to Duan Lei and Duan Xue, who immediately came up behind him.
"Dagger!"
Li Chenzhou reached out to Duan Xue, his eyes still on the zombies, while observing the surrounding shops. He said:
"Remember, after spotting zombies, you must immediately observe the surrounding terrain. Zombies are faster and stronger than us, and they never get tired. But they're mindless, so using the terrain to kill them is the smartest thing to do!"
At this moment, Duan Xue placed the dagger in Li Chenzhou's hand. Li Chenzhou grasped the dagger and said:
"However, it's not always you who spots the zombies first. If the zombies spot you first, then there's no time to observe the environment. In that case, we have to use another method."
As he spoke, Li Chenzhou reached out and pulled down the zombie corpse that Baozi was carrying on his shoulder, placing it on the ground. With a wave of the dagger, he cut it open, and a nauseating stench instantly filled the air.
"I said that zombies have poor eyesight. Beyond three meters, it's hard for them to tell whether you're a human or one of their own. They identify and track prey using smell and hearing!"
While reaching into the zombie's stomach to take out internal organs and bloody filth to smear on his body and face, Li Chenzhou said softly, his expression relaxed and indifferent, as if he were applying sunscreen.
Duan Lei and Baozi looked on with twitching faces, and Duan Xue's cute little face was puffed up like a bun, as she forcibly suppressed the urge to vomit.
Li Chenzhou glanced at the four of them, noticing that although they all looked quite uncomfortable, none of them looked away, not even Duan Xue. So, he nodded in satisfaction and continued:
"Smearing zombie flesh and blood on your body can cover up our scent, making it harder for zombies to detect us. But when doing this, you must be careful that you don't have any wounds on your body. Otherwise, once this blood and flesh enters your bloodstream, then you'll never need to disguise yourself as a zombie again—because you'll be one!"
As he spoke, Li Chenzhou smeared zombie flesh and blood all over himself, even grabbing the zombie's liver and using it like a towel to wipe his face back and forth.
"Alright! Watch closely, I'm going to demonstrate two ways to hunt zombies. The first is to use my current disguise, which is also the safest."
Standing up, Li Chenzhou twirled the dagger in his hand and said:
"As for the second, it's how to engage in close combat with zombies. Zombies are physically stronger than us, but they don't dodge, and they don't feint. So, even when facing many zombies, as long as you don't panic and carefully watch the direction they're attacking from, you can easily kill them!"
After saying that, Li Chenzhou stepped forward and walked towards the ramen shop.
The four left behind looked at each other, and then together looked at Li Chenzhou, their eyes wide.
Sure enough, when Li Chenzhou came behind the zombies, they still didn't react at all, and continued to crowd in front of the ramen shop entrance. Li Chenzhou then turned back to Duan Lei and the others and raised his index finger, indicating that the next was the first method.
Afterward, Li Chenzhou casually reached out and grabbed the zombie on the left, pulling it towards himself. Just as the zombie turned its head to protest, the dagger in his right hand was already against its eye socket. Then, his left hand grabbed the back of its head, and his right hand forcefully plunged the dagger deep inside...
The other zombies didn't notice the "murder" behind them, and continued to bang on the metal gate. Li Chenzhou gently placed the zombie's corpse on the ground, looked up at Duan Lei and the others, and then held up two fingers to them—the second method!
In fact, using the first method, Li Chenzhou could easily kill all eight zombies, or he could kill a few more before alarming the others.
But after experiencing the previous battle, Li Chenzhou was already familiar with his current body. Even if he wasn't wearing combat gear, he was confident that he could kill the zombies in front of him.
"Thump!"
After making the hand gesture, Li Chenzhou turned back again. This time, he wasn't as careful as before. Instead, he held the dagger in reverse grip, raised his arm high, and slammed it down hard on the head of the zombie in the front.
"Thump!"
The zombie that was banging on the gate immediately stopped raising its arm, and then slumped down. The other zombies all stopped and turned their heads, six scarlet eyes looking at Li Chenzhou, a member of their kind who was actually "killing his own."
"Um...personal grudge!"
Li Chenzhou pulled out the dagger and took two steps back, shrugging his shoulders at the zombies...
