Chapter 21 Savior

Hearing Li Chenzhou's words, the complex emotions on Leopard's face vanished. He glanced back at the young woman, then glared at Li Chenzhou, while Gray Bear frowned at the two corpses on the floor.

"You're not convinced, are you?"

Li Chenzhou looked at Duan Lei and asked, "Xiao Lei, how is it? Can you hold them off?"

"Boss, no problem!" Duan Lei didn't even turn his head, his gun firing continuously, while Duan Xue reloaded his magazines beside him.

"When I was up there fighting off zombies, trying to give you time to open an apartment door, what were you doing? When Xiao Lei opened the door and immediately notified me, and I led a horde of zombies here, what were you doing?"

Li Chenzhou pointed to the bedroom. "Surveying the scene, collecting evidence? Seeing if Xiao Lei was wantonly killing people, and deciding whether to charge him with intentional homicide?"

Striding up to Leopard, Li Chenzhou grabbed his collar, pointing towards the door and shouting, "At that time, dozens of zombies were chasing me! If Xiao Lei and I hadn't held them back, everyone in this apartment would be dead! What good is your investigation then?"

Leopard grabbed Li Chenzhou's wrist, trying to wrench it away, but after hearing Li Chenzhou's words, his hand suddenly went limp. He turned to look at Duan Lei, still shooting zombies, and opened his mouth, but no words came out.

Leopard and Gray Bear looked over as well, even Duan Xue, who was loading magazines.

Hanging on the living room wall was a large wedding photo, a smiling, happy couple.

"If they were the owners of this place, why aren't they in the photo? Also, why didn't you see them when you came in?" Li Chenzhou's voice rang out again. "Heh! You're both police officers, and you didn't even notice this. You're worse than a teenager! And you're still indignantly thinking he's a ruthless murderer!

"These... zombies?" Gray Bear was stunned, and looked at Li Chenzhou pointing towards the door, seemingly not understanding.

"The other two units!" Gray Bear answered immediately. That was for sure, especially since the zombies came from upstairs. They could only have come from the other two units.

"That's right! But how did they get out?" Li Chenzhou asked again.

Hearing this question, Gray Bear was stunned, and then his eyes flashed with disbelief.

Leopard frowned, looking at Gray Bear's expression, and turned to Li Chenzhou. "Could it be... they didn't break down the door to the roof and run out on their own?"

"Xiao Lei! How is it?" Li Chenzhou was about to answer when he heard the gunfire stop, and so he asked.

"Looks like they're gone!" Duan Lei said, carefully watching the gap in the door.

"Come down! Take a rest, and tell me, how do you think these zombies ended up here?" Li Chenzhou said.

Duan Lei jumped off the refrigerator, took a full magazine from Duan Xue, replaced the half-empty one in his gun, and walked over, looking a little evasive as he looked at Li Chenzhou. "Boss! I know, these zombies... must have been released by that kid. Back on the roof, he said we had attracted the zombies and killed his father! I saw hatred in his eyes!"

As he spoke, Duan Lei subconsciously glanced at Leopard. "Boss, you told me that if we're sure someone is an enemy, we have to kill him as soon as possible, and not leave any hidden dangers for ourselves. But at the time... you were down below holding back the horde, and that kid didn't do anything else. If I had tried to kill him, he would have stopped me, and I didn't have time to explain.

"Also... I want to remind you, after that kid released the zombies, he used his own blood to lure them here, and then he went downstairs through the other unit. Do you think... he might think that the ramen shop owner and his daughter downstairs are also among those who killed his father?"

"That's bad!" Leopard's face changed drastically, and he rushed over to move the refrigerator and sofa.

With that, Leopard rushed into the side bedroom, tore the bedsheets and tied them together. Gray Bear looked at Leopard, then at Li Chenzhou, a trace of struggle flashing in his eyes.

Looking at Leopard's determined face, Li Chenzhou shook his head, and suddenly asked, "You want to go down and save that father and daughter? What about her here? Leave her here to fend for herself?"

Leopard suddenly stopped, looked up at Li Chenzhou, seeming a little angry, and then turned to Gray Bear. "Gray Bear, you take care of her here!"

"I remember... your captain ordered you to follow me, and get familiar with the road from here to outside the city. I don't need you to follow me, but he still needs to follow us. Or... can you change your captain's orders?" Li Chenzhou looked at Leopard, a trace of mockery on his face.

"You want to save everyone you see, no problem. I'm telling you, they're everywhere along the way, thousands upon thousands. We can even find hundreds of survivors in this unit, in this complex. You stay here and save them slowly, and see if your captain and the survivors in the hotel can wait for you to come back before they starve to death!"

Li Chenzhou walked towards the door, pulled away the refrigerator and sofa, looked back at Leopard and said, "That's why I said you're the same as her! A savior!"

Then, Li Chenzhou looked at Gray Bear. "Are you going to carry out your captain's orders, or stay here with him? The choice is yours. With that, Li Chenzhou waved his hand at Duan Lei and Duan Xue, and took the lead, walking out...
