Lord of Illusions City

Chapter 219 An Alternative Method of Brewing Red Wine

Because two days had passed, and Wang Zifeng and his son had made almost no noise during those two days, the sound of zombies pounding on the door had ceased.

However, the door of this room didn't have a window, so Wang Zifeng wasn't sure if the two zombies were still nearby.

He tiptoed to the door, gripped the handle, and turned it little by little, careful not to make any noise. Then, he opened the door a crack and peeked outside.

Fortunately, he didn't see any zombies, and after listening carefully, he couldn't hear any zombie groans. Wang Zifeng took a deep breath, turned back to his son, and made a silencing gesture. Then, he pushed the door open and quickly glanced outside.

The corridor was empty on both sides, without a single person in sight. Wang Zifeng immediately rushed out, heading towards the spot where he had dropped his bag earlier. But just then, the little boy, noticing his father running out of the room, suddenly cried out:

"Daddy! I want Daddy!!!"

Wang Zifeng's heart leaped, but he couldn't go back now. Without food, returning meant certain death. So, without any hesitation, he continued towards the corner of the corridor ahead.

His bag should be just around the corner. Wang Zifeng was sure that he had dropped it when he reached that point. But the moment he rounded the corner, he froze.

The bag was gone. In its place, there was only a bag of bread.

At that moment, he heard footsteps behind him. Wang Zifeng didn't hesitate. He grabbed the bag of bread and turned back.

But just then, a zombie appeared in the corridor ahead, charging towards Wang Zifeng. Wang Zifeng quickly estimated the distance. Both he and the zombie seemed to be about the same distance from the door.

A fierce look appeared on his face. He sprinted towards the door, but after two days without food, he couldn't match the zombie's speed. As the zombie reached the door, Wang Zifeng was still about five meters away.

"Yaah!"

Wang Zifeng roared and charged forward with all his might. Just as he was about to collide with the zombie, he lowered his body and slammed into it.

Even Wang Zifeng didn't expect that his impact would send the zombie tumbling backward. He didn't feel any pain, proving that he hadn't been bitten or scratched.

"Bang!"

He scrambled into the room, slamming the door shut behind him. Leaning against the door, Wang Zifeng gasped for breath, feeling a wave of weakness washing over him.

He had already gone two days without food or water. Now, he had sprinted outside to grab a bag of bread, which had taken a heavy toll on his stamina.

"Daddy! I want to eat!"

The little boy saw the bread in Wang Zifeng's hand and immediately perked up, rushing towards him with surprising speed, reaching for the bread.

"Xiao Bao! Daddy is hungry too. If we don't eat, Daddy won't be able to take you out of here. So, how about you eat most of it, and Daddy eats a little bit, okay?"

Wang Zifeng said weakly, looking at his son and then at the bread. It was a 500-gram bag. If they shared it, he would be able to regain some strength.

"No! It's mine!"

Xiao Bao immediately snatched the bread, tore it open, and began to devour it, while watching his father warily, moving backward.

"Xiao Bao! There are monsters outside! If you don't give Daddy some bread, Daddy won't have the strength to take you out!"

Wang Zifeng smiled wryly and said softly, while locking the door to prevent the zombies from getting in.

"But I'm hungry!"

Xiao Bao shook his head, refusing to give Wang Zifeng the bread. Wang Zifeng could only shake his head helplessly, sitting there staring at Xiao Bao, his heart filled with sorrow.

If he wanted to take the bread from Xiao Bao, the boy wouldn't be able to escape. And if it was truly for the sake of getting Xiao Bao out of here, Wang Zifeng wouldn't have hesitated.

But the problem was, Wang Zifeng knew that his building was already within the zombie horde's range. Even if he snatched half a loaf of bread from Xiao Bao and ate it, there was no way they could escape. In that case, he might as well let Xiao Bao eat his fill. Perhaps... this was the last piece of bread in his short life...

"Daddy! I want a drink!"

Xiao Bao was, after all, just a child. Even though he was very hungry, he couldn't finish the whole loaf of bread. He could only eat most of it before he couldn't eat any more. Then, he looked at Wang Zifeng pitifully and called out.

Hearing Xiao Bao's words, Wang Zifeng couldn't help but smile wryly.

When they first came into this room, they had found half a bottle of water, but Xiao Bao had already drunk it all, and there wasn't a drop left.

Wang Zifeng had used the bottle to collect his and Xiao Bao's urine. He had drunk quite a bit of it, which had allowed him to barely hold on until now, but Xiao Bao refused to drink it no matter what.

There was still a little bit of that urine left, but even if he gave it to Xiao Bao, he still wouldn't drink it!

Thinking that this might be the last day for him and his son, Wang Zifeng really wanted to grant all of his son's wishes, but the problem was, where could he get a drink?

"Xiao Bao! Wait a minute! Daddy will think of something!"

Wang Zifeng picked up the half-bottle of urine, got up, and went to the window. Looking at the zombies below, he drank it all in one gulp. Then, he shook the bottle downward, trying to make it as clean as possible.

After doing all of this, Wang Zifeng looked at Xiao Bao and suddenly smiled, asking:

"Xiao Bao! Don't you always watch Daddy drink red wine, and Daddy doesn't let you drink it, saying you can only drink it when you grow up? Well, do you want to drink red wine now?"

"Yes!"

Xiao Bao had only eaten a few pieces of chocolate in the past two days, and then he ate so much bread but only drank half a bottle of water. He was extremely thirsty, so when he heard that there was red wine to drink, he immediately nodded.

"Okay! Then close your eyes, turn around, and you can only open them when Daddy tells you to, otherwise you won't get any red wine!"

Wang Zifeng said to Xiao Bao.

"Okay!"

Xiao Bao immediately turned around and closed his eyes, but then he opened them again, looked down at the half-eaten piece of bread in his hand, wrapped it up, and stuffed it into his pants, holding it tightly with his hand. Only then did he really close his eyes.

Watching Xiao Bao's actions, Wang Zifeng smiled sadly. Then, he raised his fist and smashed it hard against a piece of glass:

"Bang! Bang! Bang! Crash~~!"

After several punches, the glass finally shattered. Wang Zifeng's fist was covered in cuts, but he didn't notice. He just picked up a triangular, relatively sharp shard and slashed it across his wrist. Then, he held the bottle underneath.

The bright red blood flowed into the plastic bottle, quickly accumulating and actually resembling the color of red wine. It looked somewhat shocking in the sunlight...
