Chapter 220: The Resort

Yamamoto led the group of practitioners toward the imposing traditional building, his presence ensuring everyone stayed organised during the check-in process.

The registration area was elegantly designed with polished wooden surfaces and traditional Japanese decorative elements that created an atmosphere of respect and formality befitting a serious martial arts competition.

Noah approached the reception desk with some uncertainty about potential costs, but discovered to his pleasant surprise that everything had been pre-arranged. No payment was required; the tournament organisers had covered all accommodation expenses for registered participants.

Even if payment had been necessary, his current financial situation would have made any reasonable fee a minor inconvenience rather than a burden. The transformation from his previous poverty to comfortable wealth helped in moments like these.

After completing the registration paperwork, Noah received his room assignment and a brief orientation about the facility’s amenities and tournament schedule. The information packet detailed meal times, practice areas, and competition brackets that would begin the following morning.

As he made his way through the corridors toward his assigned quarters, Noah found himself genuinely impressed by the accommodations. The facility had spared no expense in creating an authentic Japanese experience, complete with traditional sliding doors, tatami mat flooring, and elegant calligraphy adorning the walls.

The rooms themselves were luxurious interpretations of classical Japanese design—spacious, meticulously clean, and furnished with high-quality materials that spoke to serious investment in participant comfort.

Most remarkably, the resort featured genuine hot springs. Natural thermal pools that had been carefully integrated into the building’s design. The opportunity to experience authentic onsen facilities felt like an unexpected bonus beyond the tournament competition itself.

Noah was examining his room’s traditional furnishings when a familiar voice echoed from the adjacent quarters.

"Hey! No way, you’re my neighbour! This is already looking great, hahaha!"

Ichigo’s enthusiastic laughter rang through the walls as he spotted Noah hear the doorway. The young man’s infectious excitement seemed undimmed by travel fatigue or pre-competition nerves.

What are the odds? Noah thought with genuine amusement at the coincidence. The resort was by no means small, and the probability of Ichigo being placed next to him was really...low.

"This is going to be awesome! We can train together, maybe hit those hot springs after practice sessions," Ichigo continued with his hand gestures. "I’ve never experienced a real onsen before despite being half Japanese."

Noah found himself appreciating Ichigo’s positive energy, especially in an environment where most participants maintained serious, focused demeanours that bordered on intimidating. Having a friendly neighbour would make the tournament experience more enjoyable.

"The hot springs do sound appealing after a day of competition," Noah agreed.

"Exactly! Nothing better for sore muscles than natural hot mineral water," Ichigo nodded enthusiastically. "Plus, I heard some of the other participants talking about evening practice sessions in the dojo areas. Want to partner up for some light sparring later?"

The suggestion had merit.

Practising with different opponents always revealed new insights about technique and strategy, and Ichigo’s friendly approach would make for productive training without the ego conflicts that sometimes arose between competitors.

"Sounds like a plan," Noah replied. "After we get settled and check out the competition schedule."

"Perfect! This tournament is already exceeding all my expectations," Ichigo laughed before heading back into his room to organise his gear.

Noah smiled before entering his room, appreciating the prospect of having a friendly neighbour during what would undoubtedly be a tense competition.

Noah checked the time on his phone—Yamamoto had instructed everyone to gather back outside in about an hour for the next phase of orientation.

Before settling in completely, Noah spread his enhanced mana across the room, his magical senses carefully probing for any surveillance equipment or monitoring devices that might compromise his privacy.

After confirming the space was completely secure, Noah closed and locked the traditional sliding door before stepping through his portal into the shop.

Appearing in his familiar store, Noah found Lola still working behind the counter despite her shift officially having ended some time ago. She was behind the counter playing around with a small mana ball she had made, an innocent smile on her face.

He raised an eyebrow at her continued presence. "What are you doing? There’s no need for you to work overtime. I’ve told you before that if I come back late, you can simply close the shop."

Lola shook her head with a gentle smile, dismissing his concern. "It’s fine. I didn’t have much else to do anyway."

She turned toward him with obvious enthusiasm about her recent advancement. "Besides, those items you sold me have helped me consolidate my Grandmaster foundation. The instant coffee and mystical herbal tea achieved what would have taken weeks or perhaps months of practice."

Her ruby eyes sparkled with genuine gratitude as she continued. "The spiritual sight ability alone has improved my understanding of magical energy flows. I was able to perceive layers of reality that were completely hidden before, even if I’ve only used it for a short period of time."

"Still, you should take proper breaks," Noah sighed with the concern of someone who understood the importance of rest, even for supernatural beings.

She smiled warmly, her expression softening into an affectionate one. "Are you perhaps worried about my health? How sweet of you to care about little me. As a grandmaster, my stamina is quite limitless, hehe~"

Her playful tone made Noah roll his eyes at her teasing, though he couldn’t quite suppress a small smile. "It doesn’t matter what rank you are. Everyone needs downtime. Things get boring when you overwork yourself."

"That’s true," Lola agreed with thoughtfulness, "but not when I’m with you."

She stepped closer towards him, her voice dropping to a softer register that made the simple words feel like silk against his ears. "You make even silence feel like an adventure."

Her flirtation carried the perfect balance of playfulness and sincerity that made it impossible to dismiss as mere teasing. The way she looked at him suggested layers of meaning behind the surface banter.
